Re: Current Version?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThanks Dick. I do have Digitrax. Sounds like I better skip 4.16. ? Rock ? From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of dick bronson via Groups.Io

Rocco, 4.16 is indeed newer than 4.6, (many years newer) but be aware that 4.16 has a serious bug in the default baud rate setting area. (It affects CMRI, Digitrax, and possibly other interfaces) You would be MUCH better off to upgrade to 4.17.3 which is a test version that fixes these issues as far as we can tell. There has actually been some talk on the developers forum about how to go about fixing 4.16 so that folks don't run afoul of these issues. If I remember right it would be difficult to go back and just make these specific fixes to 4.16, so 4.16.1 probably will never happen. Normally the test releases carry some risk of new bugs, but 4.17.3 with its slight possibility for new bugs is surely the better option today, especially when compared with 4.16 and its known serious bug. Gentlemen, I need a little help with two questions: 1. I went to the JMRI web site's down load page and it says that the current version is 4.16. If I start my version on my computer it says that I have version 4.6-R81496dc? Did they restart the version numbers? Got any ideas? If 4.16 is newer do I install it over top of the old one or put it in a new directory? 2. I recently purchase an engine with an unknown decoder. I went to add the engine into my roster and asked decoder pro to identify the decoder. It came back and said that it was a Train Control Systems/Jan 2000. It highlighted about 10 different decoders. Which one do I choose? Thanks for any help. Rock |

Re: Virtual Sound Decoder - Clicks on looped sound files
Klaus,
You are correct, I do have a click in notch 2.? my mod consisted of making a separate EMD645 file by removing all the other locos and changing the notch setting points to 10, 20, 30 & 100.? My note says it "works perfectly" but it does have the click at notch 2.? I also now see that the original notched at different points when accelerating and decelerating.? I don't know if what I did is prototypical. Per Matt H's instruction, I've sent the vsd file to?/g/jmriusers/files/VSD Conrad |

Seeking advice on session planning using Operations and CATS
Hi,
I am a novice user of OperationsPro (OP) and an intermediate user of CATS.? I?have used the latter to dispatch several operating sessions now, but I am just in the process bringing OP into the mix.? I have sorted out how CATS and OP can communicate session progress at run time (OP reports train data to CATS and CATS reports train progress to OP) and I would like to use that capability during a session to manage progress. As I prepare for my next session, I am looking for recommendations on how to manage the building of trains in OP while being able to exploit the run time capability noted above.? My preference would be to have all the trains built in OP in advance, print the necessary switch lists, then reset OP to the beginning of the session so that it can communicate the proper real-time info to CATS (such as train length at departure).? I feel it would be too hectic to try and build trains & print paperwork in real time.? One complication is that some trains in the session depend on earlier trains having completed their work, so they cannot be built until the earlier trains have terminated (if I understand OP correctly). One idea I've had is to take a pre-session snapshot as a backup, build, print, and terminate trains for the session, then reset with the backup.? I think I would still have to re-build the trains as the session progresses, but having gone through a "virtual" session beforehand, and having the lists printed in advance, I think that would be manageable.? I welcome any suggestions, as I may be missing an obvious and better solution, for example using Save Builds, but I'm not seeing it now. Thanks in advance, Gary |

Re: RR-Cirkits Motorman and Berrett Hill Toggle Switch pairing
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSteve, I think all you need to do is plug ribbon cables from the translator to a TowerMan, (or other I/O port) one cable for controlling the color, and the other for outputting the commands. The power for the Touch devices will come from the TowerMan, so no external 5V power is required, but can optionally be supplied to reduce the load on the SSB. Re: Signal pair conflict with turnout state? and auto train speed.?
To run my version, you will need JMRI 4.17.3, Steve is running 4.15.9. ?In either case, you will need a profile that has the connection set to "DCC++ Simulator".

Hello, Dave and Steve. I continue to get the same parse error, with all of the xml files the both of you provided. My JMRI version is 4.14+Rd060e0b, is that a problem? And I'm offline, the "about" screen says "NCE:using Simulator on (none)". Is that a problem?

RR-Cirkits Motorman and Berrett Hill Toggle Switch pairing
I am attempting to begin automation of the trains on my layout using jmri. Currently I have enabled block detection using RR-Cirkits watchman connected through RR-Cirkits Locobuffer USB. All is running well.
Because I control my turnouts with Berrett Hill Touch Toggles, I am unable to control turnouts using JMRI/Panel Pro turnout tables/etc. Can anyone give advice regarding how I might allow control of turnouts with JMRI. I have an RR-Cirkits Motorman and the Berrett Hill Universal Translator (neither yet installed) and don't know how to get them to work with each other. Any ideas or anyone I might contact for help would be appreciated. I don't know if it's important to know the other hardware on my layout ... but here is the list.? Command Station : Digitrax Zephyr Booster: Digitrax DB150 Power Management/Reversing : Digitrax PM42 Computer Connection : Lenovo Laptop PC to RR-Cirkits LocoBuffer USB Power Supply to RR-Cirkits Watchman : RR-Cirkits SSB adapter Turnout Control : Berrett Hill Touch Toggles (3 DB8 and 1 DB4) Block Detection : RR-Cirkits Watchman Turnout Control : ???? Don't have any idea if I've got this right ... RR-Cirkits Motorman & Berrett Hill Universal Translator Thanks, Steve Pustay |
