Thanks for the videos.
I tried the same turnouts you were toggling and the web panel works for me if I enable the proper sensors. Hopefully the upgrade will help, I don't recall you telling us what version of JMRI you were on.
Regarding the NX prompts, the current web code doesn't come close to supporting something like that. Sorry.

Don, you may have posted into a previously running thread.... but what you propose sounds like a reasonable approach to update an air-gapped Rpi.

Any decoder with a blob of black epoxy I stay away from.
Learned that in my early days of DCC.

It's cheap for a reason.

I've been seeing listing on eBay for sound decoders from XL Systems Inc.
I've
never heard of them. Are they supported by JMRI? Any comments on
quality of
electronics or sound?

Hello Group, I'm still having problems with my PR4. After a day of JMRI and the PR4 working correctly I'm now back to square one and not able to read read or write to any of my decoders. Someone suggested I try a new PS14, but that did not fix the issues. Can someone please tell me what their current Port Settings are for the PR4.
My Bits per second = 57600
Data bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop bits = 1
Flow Control = Hardware?
The advanced settings for FIFO Buffers box is checked and both sliders are set to high with the Com Port Number set to COM 3.
Are these settings correct?

Thanks in advance,
Rich S.?

Locked Re: Virtual Sound Decoder - Clicks on looped sound files

I just found this site.? I was working? on VSD last year and made great progress and am getting ready to go at it again this fall and winter.? I have some 20 files, diesel, electric and steam; all based on the framework of the original vsd files.? AND I also have clicking on looped sound files.? Not with bells, whistles, etc. - only with the "idle" and the notch sounds.? ?I circumvented this problem on the electric locos by not using the motor file(s) but instead using a blower sound relabeled as motor.? As I understand it, electrics don't notch.??For diesel and steam I stuck with the original vsd files, adjusted the notch points and added different bells, horns, pumps, etc.? If interested, I can hopefully find my computer notes and give a detailed report on my method.? I use SPJHelper, WavePad Sound Editor and XML Copy Editor to obtain the wav files and manipulate the vsd files.? All wave files are PCM, uncompressed, 11025 Hz ?sampled?, 8 bit, mono.?

Looking at this thread I don't think the problem was solved.? However, VSD is very good (sans clicking).? It's a really great way to fill the room with sound for my "hollow core door", n scale layout.? It works seamlessly with JMRI and Engine Driver.? ?

Don,

If my memory is correct, you say the command station was in storage for so time. It is the early command station - like the one I use - and I do an average of 2 installs per day. All program track programming is normally done through Decoder Pro and A Sprog 3 BUT, for many years it was just the command station. In my area and local club there are 12 Easydcc uses and most of them use the command station only.

You have done a full reset, now the next step - with a small flat bladed screw driver just lift? the end of each IC on the board - no need to take them out completely and then reset them. The main processor can remain as it is. Then do another full reset and try again. The 6.29 Eprom is perfectly good.

I am upside down in Australia but that should not make a difference.

A question for anyone using EasyDCC and Decoder Pro is this: What switches the Command Station between normal running and programming modes? I see commands defined to do that, but don't know what JMRI operations trigger them. Does switching to Programming Track on the Roster page initiate programming mode? Seems likely. But, what switches it back? Changing back to Edit only, or something else?

What a mean by a crossing loop in there is a single line that has two turnouts a left and a right turnout at at each end and trains can pass each other and like if there is a broken down train in that section u can make a train pass.

Steve,

Is there a safe, easy way to update JMRI on the RPi running your image without connecting it to the internet? My Pi isn't connected to the internet, it's being used as a standalone network server for the railroad. Can I download 4.17.3 to a flash drive, plug that into the Pi, and install it from there?

Gerry, I did try the full reset, twice. No change. Static isn't an issue here now, unless there's been some permanent damage to the Command Station: it's summer, and the basement is cool and humid, the floor bare concrete. Not a good static electricity source! Several power off and on sequences also made no difference.

Bob: Thanks. That's more to look at. I did confirm it's showing V 629, which several messages here have said should be OK. There's nobody to contact at CVP until they get back from train shows in a week or so.

I'm just getting started with programming with JMRI, so not sure yet programming through it is working. I want to use DecoderPro to set up the SoundTraxx decoders I recently bought. I won't feel ready for that until I solve these other problems.
