Re: JMRI update on a raspberry pi
For the "must be current" crowd... The base Java version included in Raspbian Stretch is 8_65 a bit lower than the JMRI Java baseline and much lower than the Java current release.
JMRI with 65 still works fine on the Pi and Java can be a bit of a pain to update... plenty of instructions on the web... Jim Albanowski |

Re: JMRI on second computer
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWe need a bit more explanation about what you intend to do: 1) Do you want to be able to use either desktop or laptop with your layout, sharing the same roster and other data, but not both connected to the layout at the same time? 2) Do you want to have both computers connected to the layout simultaneously? Please clarify p whether you want 1) or 2). --? Dave in Australia The New England Convention 2018 On 14 Nov 2018, at 12:39 AM, Roger Perkins <roger39perkins@...> wrote:

Re: JMRI update on a raspberry pi
To update your system you need a network connection, use your VNC connect to get to to the Pi. On the task bar (at the top) you should see the icon for the terminal window. Open the terminal and type in the following at the prompt: sudo apt update ? then press the enter key. Make sure it's all lower case. Linux is case sensitive! After a few minutes, you will receive a response stating x packages can be upgraded. or All packages are up to date. If you get the first message, enter the following at the prompt: sudo apt upgrade -y ?then press the enter key. Make sure it's all lower case. You may want to reboot your Pi if it hasn't been upgraded in a while. Do this by typing the following at the prompt: sudo shutdown -r ? then press the enter key. type in exit ? then press the enter key. That'll bring your Pi up to date after it re-boots. You may have noticed pi2B or pi3B at the prompt. That's your Pi model. This link can help you if you haven't added JMRI to the main menu Use this link for installation of JMRI ?To update JMRI, start Decoder Pro, go to Help, check for updates and you'll get information on the latest production and test releases.

Engine Driver and JMRI fail when stealing an engine
Using?Engine Driver connected through JMRI, when I attempt to acquire an engine that is "In Use" on a Digitrax throttle I see a "steal" message on my phone with Y or N options.? Regardless of which option I choose, Engine Driver will not acquire the engine and any further attempt to acquire any engine with Engine Drive?fails, even after stopping and restarting Engine Driver.? In addition, JMRI will no longer allow any throttle on the computer screen to acquire any engine.? The only way I can find to resume normal operation is to close and restart JMRI.
I have confirmed this problem on my home layout and two separate club layouts, all running similar hardware and software.? I also have reports from another club experiencing the same problem. Setup Digitrax DCS100 command station Digitrax DT402D throttle running rev 21 software and operating plugged into the Loconet HP Laptop running Windows 10 JMRI versions? Production 4.12, test 4.13.3, and test 4.13.4? - all show the same problem Locobuffer USB interface Engine Driver 2.22.69 running on Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android version 4.1.2 Frank Fezzie |

Re: JMRI on second computer
Roger,
? ? I too have a second Asus laptop with JMRI running.? Did some tests and see running two laptops feasible, but the second one I disable the startup scripts.? I think also there might be a problem with the Logix conditionals running so maybe should disable those. Roger? |

JMRI on second computer
I have the DecodePro on this desk top computer.
I also have a ASUS "laptop" computer which I would like to connect to the same soft ware so I could connect with the home railroad.? I model in n-scale and use NCE Power Cab. Is this feasible? Thank you. |

Re: Update Error Message
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThis can also be caused by your antivirus software preventing you from writing the LaunchJMRI.exe file because it is a new version and that antivirus software doesn't yet trust it. If you know how to do so, tell your antivirus software to "install anyway". That helps build its reputation for others. Otherwise, temporarily disable your antivirus software while you install JMRI. --? Did you have JMRI running at the time? You would need to exit JMRI to do the update. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com www.syracusemodelrr.org |

I did nearly the same thing. I started by using a grade crossing in the centre of the double crossover for block 40 you had made it with two lines crossing so half of block 40 was unattached to anything. If you can get the each switch and the crossing into separate sections it will make life less complicated, currently the 2 west switches are in the same section. I set block 06B and 01 to a section each. What I was going to do next was to re do the transit flagging the new section for block 01 (with extra signals) as safe along with the S106:107 and S41:42. The first and last sections do not need to be flagged. This transit can then be allocated by safe sections , which will only allocate if all sections between the safe sections can be allocated at once, so it doesnt stop anywhere else. To do the job properly you will need to break up some of the larger sections, and internal signals cost you nothing. Steve G. ---------- Original Message ---------- |

Re: LATEST LAYOUT EDITOR FORMAT
Dave S,
Was there any reason for they different types of turnouts to name/rotate differently? I suspect it was simply the case of who wrote what and that it got into common use before anyone noticed they didn't follow the same general concepts. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com www.syracusemodelrr.org |

Re: LATEST LAYOUT EDITOR FORMAT
Dave thanks for that explanation. Is there a reason why all of the formations are not coded in the same direction? Be it clockwise or counter clockwise.

When I was entering the turnouts it occurred to me that instead of selecting the closed or thrown from the list might it not be better to ask the question: ¡°Select which position represents the ¡°Continuing track through the turnout¡±. That way we do not have to select the continuing road again in another box thus making the page a littler simpler in its design. The Default can still be the closed position but the reminder will allow that selection to be at the front of the users mind as the data is input. That way we would make it easier for those of us who use the terms ¡°Normal¡± and ¡°Reversed¡± when talking about which is the main running line through the turnout. Re: Inconsistent response to creating new loads in "Edit Cars" within Ops
Paul,
Did some testing and figured out what the issue is.? If you don't select a car type when adding a car, the load combo box doesn't get updated.? So if you're using the very first car type, you still must select it to update the car loads, and to also track any changes you make to that car type load names. Dan |

For slips, the blue connection is A and proceeds ¡°counter" clockwise. The connections are A-D, A-C, B-D and B-C (double only). For cross-overs and the level crossing, the four connection points are ¡°clockwise". For turnouts, the points end is A, normal is B and diverging is C. For the Wye, the right leg is B and C for the left leg. Dave Sand On Nov 12, 2018, at 8:10 AM, Dave Roberts <dccdaveroberts@...> wrote: |

Re: Inconsistent response to creating new loads in "Edit Cars" within Ops
Paul,
If you press the "Add" before you edit a car load the load menu will update for you.? However, if you select a car type, and then immediately create a new load, the load is created, but the load window will not update since a car hasn't been added.? Loads are associated with a car type, once you create a car by using the "Add" button, the window can track the loads associated with the car type.? Otherwise the load menu isn't updated.? If you edit another car that was the same type that you created a new load for, you would see the new load created in the load menu. I'll try and do someone to fix this by the next test release.
