Re: Engine Driver Suggestion
This is similar to a challenge that I laid down in the old Yahoo group, shortly before the transition. Basically I asked for a skin to engineDriver that replicated the PT. I have used the actual PT on a friend's layout and it does make switching very realistic, and fun. And yes, there are many, mainly older, decoders that do not work with PT. But I am sure that will not deter people from wanting a PT. A bigger deterrent is the price, which is where an ED skin would come in. I imagine that this would not be a priority forthe core development and support team, perhaps someone with the necessary time and skills could create one. Maybe even as a <gasp> paid upgrade, after all WiThrottle in IOS is not completely free.....

Re: Exporting files from JMRI
I tried running this script, it creates a file descriptor in Windows 7 but if you attempt to open it you get a message that the file is locked for editing.?? Bypassing this message and forcing open the file shows the file to be empty.
Looking at the file details in Explorer shows a size of 0 kb JMRI 4.4 running on Windows 7 64 bit SP1 fully patched. |

Operations: Flipping E/L at end of train, without using staging yard
I have started playing around with Operations, and have managed to set up most of what I need, including: switching from a local yard to a mine and sending only empty cars, creating phantom trains to move from the end points of the layout to storage shelves (using the 0-5-0 loco). I also have schedules at spurs, including my RIP tracks, so I am not a complete beginner.?
However, I have run into one issue that I have been bending my head around and scanning the groups.io messages but have not found a solution. Situation: Point to point layout with three interchange points, one at each end and one in the middle. The i/c yards are used in two ways, firstly to collect cars to/from the layout spurs for transferring from/to storage, secondly (more importantly) as a turnaround point for cars. Specific example of the second item is as follows, empty cars start in the i/c yard and are moved to a mine yard. A local switching train moved the cars to the mine where their load is flipped to L. A second switching train then moves them back to the mine yard, ready for pickup. Keeping it simple, assume all cars will return loaded to the original i/c yard. On reaching the i/c yard, I would like the load to be flipped from L back to E. From the documentation I see a number of ways to do this, I would appreciate comments from some of the experienced Ops users as to the pitfalls or benefits of the different approaches.
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give Stefan Bartelski |

Comsist Throttle Problems with F Functions
I am having issues with non responsibe function buttons in consists. Both my JMRI and Engine driver throttles have non functioning Function buttons. I am able to control the speed and direction of the consists but that is all. I use the consist manager in both advanced and command station mode but get the same results. I have reset the decoders with no avail.?
When I use my dt 500 or the protothrottle I have full function of my buttons.? Also if i build the consist in engine driver I have no problems. This only affects the JMRI and engine driver throttles. I am on JMRI 4.12 with a dcs 240 connected via USB (PR3) to a raspberry pi. All my connections are confirmed as loconet.? |

Re: Engine Driver Problem
Thanks, Harold, glad you got it sorted.
I was aware of that Preference, but did not think to ask you to check it. Sorry about that. I tested with a new profile, and learned that the default is now "Disable Frames". I'll remember that for next time this sort of issue arises. Regards, ? SteveT |

Re: Engine Driver Problem
Many thanks Steve.
The problem is resolved.? Although I do not fully understand many of the options available in JMRI and Engine Driver, I discovered that, in JMRI Preferences on the laptop under Web Server/Frame Server, frames were disabled.? Sincce you advised to state "/frames" in Engine Driver Initial Web Page, it occurred that perhaps frames should be enabled.? Having done that and restarted Engine Driver, I then saw the Available JMRI Frames page and was able to select my full panel.? This brought up a clear image of everything and i have been able to change turnouts using the tablet's touch screen. ?Great to have everything working properly again - and I do like the new version of Engine Driver. Thanks again, Harold. |

Re: Engine Driver Suggestion
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýJumping in here... With WiThrottle, there is an IDLE button top-of-screen between Forward and Reverse buttons. With a JMRI throttle, the IDLE is the red button below the slider (between the direction arrows). I don't have an Android device but there appears to be a similar Stop button on the EngineDriver screen. The NCE Pro Cab uses the OPTION button for a similar purpose. All of the above send a DCC "set speed to zero" command rather than an EStop command (the red octagonal symbol). If Bob has in mind a "coast" button (set prime mover to idle but don't slow train), there is no universal way of doing this with a DCC command. Some decoders support this as a mappable function key, others do not support it. The same applies to Brake. Some decoders support this as a mappable function key, others do not support it. Almost every brand that does support it implements the effect on the loco speed differently from other brands. --? Bob,
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. Unfortunately, I don't follow what you're describing. I don't have access to one of those gadgets, so I'm not sure what the controls you're listing should do. Can you email me a photo or something with a writeup describing the behavior? In particular, we don't currently have an "Idle" or "Brake" function. --SteveT |

Re: Problem with 4.11.8 and Engine Driver
Frank,
I've pushed a change to JMRI to add a WiThrottle Preference "Turnout Creation". Once enabled, if EngineDriver and WiThrottle clients request a valid turnout that is unknown to JMRI, it will be created. Hopefully, this addresses your request. It is included in the latest "Jenkins" test release. For best results, I'd also suggest using the latest EngineDriver Beta version, as it includes a small change for better messaging. Let me know how it works for you, --SteveT |

Re: Engine Driver Problem
Harold,?
The case-sensitivity can differ based on your computer's OS, but lowercase is always correct: "/frame". If you're not seeing the "Available JMRI Frames" page, it's possible your browser is caching the page. You can also try using the tablet's browser outside of EngineDriver. Just enter the web address directly, something like "http://192.168.6.1:12080" (use your address and port if different). --SteveT |

Java not working
Rolf
I am getting this message in a MS Windows window:?? Java(TM) Platform SE binary has stopped working.
I use Java 1.6, and upgrading is not an option on my hardware and OS. Also, ?turnouts on the turnout table don't stick. I add LocoNet turnouts: LT1, LT13, etc. They?switch on the layout,? when clicked on a panel. However, after closing the turnout table window, and reopening, the turnouts are all changed to Internal: IT1, IT13, etc. What may be going on? Thanks, Rolf |

You need another conditional in the Logix that makes the internal sensor go inactive when either physical sensor goes inactive. I usually have them delayed 5 seconds before going inactive. Bob Bucklew ----- Original Message -----

Re: Engine Driver Problem
Steve,
I will have to try again tomorrow.? I did type in "/frame" after selecting "Initial Web Page" from "Web Preferences" but, after restarting Engine Driver, and holding the tablet in landscape mode, the panel just opened in the same, incomplete state.? I did not see any reference to "Available JMRI Frames". After reading your initial advice, when I opened Web Preferences and selected Initial Web Page, there was nothing entered after the forward slash, so I presume that is how Engine Driver had been working.? I then tried (separately) entering Panel and Frame with no change in performance or options offered.? However, I will try again in the morning as my layout and the relevant router are in my loft and turned off when i am not up there.? Incidentally, is it important whether Panel and Frame are totally in lower case?? It is possible I put a capoital initial letter. Harold. |
