What version of JMRI are you running? The 240 was addressed around 4.7.2.

I believe AnyRail lets you export a layout to an image file (JPG, PNG?). If so, then the easiest thing to do would be to place that image onto your panel as an icon.


I've built schmatics of my layout in Microsoft PowerPoint. Then exported as a .PNG file and placed it on my panel as an icon. There's a picture of my CTC Panel in the folder Bob Z CTC Panel.

Terry: But when we ask a question about how something is set " No change" is not how it is set!

On the PanelPro main menu, Panels menu, Load Panels... item. Then navigate to your XML file to select it and open.

The AnyRail process is a bit rough still. If you get any Really Obscure Errors, please
1) post the file so we can track those down and
2) Panels -> Run Script, select the TurnOffXmlValidation.py script, and run it; then try your XML file again.

Bob, Walt, Peter et al. I admire your patience. It is my opinion that people who expect 'no charge' help of any kind should have an attitude that encourages people to provide that help.

Not so much that the entries get changed but how they affect the program can have changed.

As an former remote support computer maintenance person this is the first time I have had a user with a problem refuse to give information when asked for it. I have not responded after the refusal and do not plan on doing so.


I will keep monitoring this thread, hoping for a change in attitude.

I've used JMRI Since
Release 1.8 and never made a preference change all the way up to 4.6
Nor did the new release make the change
Now with 4.8 i have problems ????????
I think the developers need to go back to the drawing board on 4.8

What you might be missing, Terry, is that JMRI can, when moving from one JMRI version to another, make changes to the configuration profile.

So the fact that you haven't changed the file doesn't mean it isn't different, now, without your knowledge.

This may be a problem, unless "Anyrail" produces an XML file that is compliant with JMRI's format. If "Anyrail" does provide an acceptable format, they you should be able to open it as a "panel file" under JMRI. If not, then JMRI will just give an error and/or fail to load the panel. I do not have any experience with "Anyrail", so cannot confirm or deny that this will work.

If you run JMRI DecoderPro3, you need to have a "Panel Pro" window open. Select the "File" pulldown menu. Select "Open PanelPro Window".

In JMRI PanelPro, select the "Panels" pulldown menu. Select "Open Panels". Choose the XML file you saved from "Anyrail". If it loads and creates a panel, great. Elsewise, look for a different solution.

Once you get your design loaded, you can modify it within JMRI and save it in JMRI's native panel format. Then go forward using JMRI's saved panel, instead of the "Anyrail" file.

If this doesn't work, then perhaps someone on this list has direct experience and can has different direction to offer...

I have recently purchased a new computer, an iMAC running OS X 10.12.6. I plugged in my Sprog2v3 to the USB port (via a hub). According to the "about this Mac" screen, the computer sees the SPROG. I have also updated Java to the newest version. However, when I start Decoder Pro I get an error message that the program could not find the port. I am mystified as on my old MAC everything worked fine. That computer self-destructed and I lost whatever Decoder Pro files might have been on it. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Here is the error message:

Unable to create connection "SPROG Programmer" (S). Serial port (none selected) not found.Serial port (none selected) not found. System connection SPROG Programmer provides a null manager for interface jmri.ThrottleManager Unable to run startup actions due to earlier failures.

Having designed my layout in Anyrail, I have now created a simlfied version and saved it as an XML document so I can import it into Panel Pro to use in Layout or Panel Editor


The only problem is I cant work out how to import it.



Guidance on how todo so in simple not to techmical terms would be greatly appreciated.

You've traced the error: I've renamed the decoderindex.xml file from my layout folder, and bingo, no more crash when either opening an existing engine or trying to add a new one.

I'm launching ok, but opening an entry in the roster takes a very long time
or never happens for some entries (>5 minutes).



I don't have a decoderindex.xml file.

*) Check whether there’s a “decoderIndex.xml” file there. I’d like to know whether people having the trouble have that file or not; either way is useful information.

*) If it is there, move it aside and then try the program to see if the problem is still present.

Just updated on my test system to the latest 4.9.2 and the issues with the 3 way points in the control panel appears to have been sorted. I removed the turn off validation script from the startup and no errors were reported. >
Just need to update the Layout PC and try that, but seems to be a positive step so far
