Hello Ken...
Installed the latest JMRI 4.8 as directed.
1. Will not run under my windows login as Rick Bell
2. WILL run under the ADMIN windows login user.
3. Can SEE everything but when printing from a selected loco in the roster, I get to the preview of selecting functions or CV's and I try to print all CV's but all I get are the same "ant tracks" too small to read.. I cannot even use a magnifying glass to guess as to what size the font is. Again tried landscape and portrait modes.. no change.
Another person here suggested saving my roster data then removing all traces of JMRI and starting over with just version 4.8.
I don't know if the two problems are related to each other, the ADMIN run versus the no run under my login and the printing, but the printing problem can only be tested under ADMIN since I obviously can't run JMRI under my login even though that is where I downloaded and installed it.
I'm not sure what sort of data to try to supply folks here. I am NOT a coder/programmer so for me to dig into the code of JMRI is groping in the dark!!

Thanks for your time on this...ALL OF YOU HERE!!

Also when installing using administrator mode, select "Install for all users" or whatever the phrase is, as you will only be able to use it in when logged in as administrator otherwise.

Hi Dave,

If you distribute this sequence of actions, I would strongly suggest moving
step #3 to before #1. People don't necessarily read carefully, or indeed
ahead. They might end up removing their user data if step 1 is executed in
'over-zealous mode'.

I have a roster on an old XP machine. It's named 4.xml._

_[I determined this by making changes and then saving after fixing the
date in the XP computer]_

To move the roster to a new computer do I just exchange the 4.xml
to the same place (current roster) in the new computer after renaming it
roster.xml?

We seem to have a fix worked out by one of the developers. It is in the
automated test phase right now. We hope to have it in the 4.9.2 version that
should become released in the next week. Since none of the developers have
the hardware, we will hope this lets you folk give a real test.

If it works for you the thanks will be to Egbert B who did the work on the
code. I was just trying to isolate where it was failing.

Locked Still not printing readable pages

I thank all who have given me tips about this problem but it still persists. Are there any "coders/programmers" here who could look at the JMRI/DecoderPro and see where the value is set for the printing of the all CV's/summary pages? I have now tested with 3 different printers on 2 different installs of 4.6 JMRI under Windows10 and all I am still getting is "ant tracks" for print out of these pages. Someone here suggested I try converting it to a pdf and that works. Why??? That is a truly long way around way to get a print out of my loco CV settings after I am done programming. I seem to be the only one with this problem and it is very frustrating. The preferences menu doesn't affect the summary/all CV's pages for printing or viewing so I'm guessing the problem lies somewhere in the code wherever the font size was set for the printing process. I also, at another persons request, tried both the landscape and portrait styles of printing but they come out the same. I update from version 3 all the way to version 4 when this started happening. I think, although I am no programmer, that something got dropped or buggered up during the update. I would just go back to version 3 but it doesn't have the decoders that I am currently using. ANY help to try to fix this would be greatly appreciated. I can supply all the version numbers, OS versions and whatever screen shots you need... I just don't know where to go next...

Assigning CV15 to any value other than 2 has no effect, the motor decoder doesn't work. I know the motor is getting power because when I place it on the programming track and program the motor gives the appropriate feedback acknowledging data received.

I'm still stuck.

The quick-and-dirty approach is to put your new file in place of the old, with the same name.

Which editor is this? If it¡¯s in Panel Editor (or in Control Panel Editor, and you open it in Panel Editor) you don¡¯t have to select it. Just ctrl-click (or right click) and select ¡°Remove¡±.

Locked Re: Icons on my CTC Panel

Bob,

Dave Sand got the story correct while this was being typed!! -----

From the appearance only, since you did not provide the actual panel xml file, one is left to surmise that you have put the schematic in one or more "background icons." If so, then the normal editing functions of the Panel Editor or the Control Panel Editor will not allow you to access such icons. The background topic reoccurs every few years on this JMRI user's group forum.

If it is necessary to edit a background icon, a brute force workaround is to open the xml panel file with a good text editor and search for text that looks something like:

<positionablelabel x="0" y="0" level="1" ...

where your values for x and y may vary. (The values of x="0" y="0" indicate the upper left corner.)

It is the value for level="1" that you need to find and change to a higher number, say 2 or 3 but not 10 or above. It would be safe to assume that you have used many background icons, so it will be necessary to exert extreme caution to verify that the correct values for x and y have been discovered.

Save the result with a file with a new name. Then use PanelPro to select the changed icon. If it is the one that you intended to modify, edit, or remove then proceed and if necessary, repeat the process for one or a few background icons at a time.

Of course if you are really comfortable with the use of a good xml editor, once you have found the appropriate text, then other, if not so safe editing options are available.

Locked Re: Icons on my CTC Panel

Bob,

Without looking at the panel xml file, my first guess is that you set the image to level 1. Although my panel editor experience is limited, I seem to recall that level 1 is special. If that is the case, you will need to carefully change the xml line that contains the icon from level="1" to level="2". Backup and/or make a copy the xml file first for safety.

Locked Icons on my CTC Panel

Hello,

Please refer to file CTC PANEL.PNG in folder Bob Z CTC Panel.

I've built this panel using Bob Bucklew's tutorials. It's been in use for about 4 years and works great. I am currently in the process of adding block detection and virtual signals to my railroad. In order to accomplish this I need to replace the track schematic as shown on the image.

My problem is that I cannot seem to select the track schematic image. I created this scematic in another tool and placed it on the panel as an icon. I've since edited the schematic image and want to place the new one on the panel. Trouble is, I need to remove the track icon that is already there first.

I can select and move or remove every other icon on the panel. I cannot select the track schematic and the panel background icons. How did these icons get to this state where they cannot be selected? Is there a way for me to accomplish what I need to do, or do I need to rebuild the entire panel??!!

As always your assitance is greatly appeciated.

PJ,
When your friend upgraded his system, did he also upgrade to a newer OP system. W7 and W10 have different file structures so if he is using an older panel, the file locations for the resources are different. He will have to edit his xml file to reflect the new file locations since the panel cannot update that automatically. He needs to do that manually or replace all existing icons by editing the actual panel. Either way, it is a lot of work.

A friend of mine just got a new computer. He is having two problems. First we set everything up for his Panel Pro. But when it comes up all the switches come up with the Unknown Icon. How do we get it to come up with the proper switch. His next problem is the newest JMRI doesn't have some of the decoders he has. He says they are older decoders. Thanks for your help. P. J. This is actually an improvement. This indicates your Mac is talking to your LIUSB, but it is sending back an error message ( one we should be able to recover from ).

This particular error message says the command station isn't giving the LIUSB a communication time slot. I am not sure why you are seeing this on startup.

Harry,

Keep in mind that the address change (.2.2 to .2.3) was due to DHCP of your
access point. Unless a node is configured as 'static' in the DHCP server, it
will change from time to time due to the way DHCP works as other nodes join
and leave the network.

Consider changing the port numbers for both the Web server and throttle
server to the default values. This is helpful when others come to visit and
are used to looking for the 'default' port numbers.

If you have Bonjour service working right on your system, the values should
get advertised correctly and the use of defaults won't matter.
