Richard,

Well the log shows things starting up, but then silently dying. No errors
showing, no 'normal exit' type message either. So some form of real crash is
happening. I'm hoping somebody else might recognize what other ideas might
cause this sort of behavior.

Don,

Generally building the tables of the parts (turnouts, sensor, signals) is a
good method when you have the hardware first. This lets you quickly test all
the parts to make sure things work. Then you build the panels to control the
layout.

But sometimes you don't have the hardware first, but you do have the layout.
So you build the panels but create 'Internal' and 'Virtual' devices for
everything. Key here is setting usernames for all the parts. When building
the panels and logic, always enter things by the username. Then later you
add the real hardware and use the 'move' command to shift the username from
the non-real device to the real hardware. This method lets you figure out
just how much hardware you need.

Locked Re: JMRI and Tsunami2 TSU-1100

It's actually pretty simple:

The PR3 has two modes of operation - One is "talk to the LocoNet" (MS100) mode, and the other is "use my (the PR3's) programming outputs" (Stand-alone Programming) mode. It can only be in one of those modes at any given time.

Due to the differing nature of those two modes, there are also two rather basic sets of connection requirements: If you want it to program decoders. you have to provide the correct DC power (the PR3 comes with a wall-wart) and connect it's programming outputs to a programming track. And if you want to talk to the LocoNet, you have to connect it to, well, the LocoNet.

To put it in the mode you want, you simply push the "Mode" button. The LED's on the device indicate which mode you're in. The PR3's instructions have a table describing the various LED colors/flashes/etc, so I won't repeat that here.

But there's an easier way to set the mode: Set up your JMRI profile(s) correctly for your intended use!

For example, my DecoderPro profile puts my PR3 in Stand-alone Programming mode, and my PanelPro profile puts it in LocoNet (MS100) mode.

Bottom line; Since you are getting a 306, your computer and the PR3 aren't talking to each other. Check that your physical connections and your JMRI profile are set correctly for the PR3 mode you intend to use, and that the proper DC power is applied if you are using Stand-alone Programming Mode.

George - if you¡¯re only interested in the programming and now worried about using the interface to a layout, then I recommend the SprogII. I've had one for several years and I have a MacBook Pro (2012) running 10.12.6PB5 and JMRI 4.7.6.

I've had no issues programming any decoder (yet) including Paragon 3, Soundtraxx Tsunami 1 and 2. While I have a WOW, the engine it¡¯s in needs mechanical love before I try to program it.

Locked Starting over

Hi to the group
I had an oops a week or so ago with my computer that JMRI and all my train files are on. I have got most of them back but have lost my data files for my layout. The only good thing is I have some paper copies of most of the tables.
Before I just blase ahead and recreate the same mess as I had before can I get some guidance as to the correct order of creating everything.. That is do I recreate all the tables first, then the layout drawing etc etc.
Thanks in advance

I tried a few things ...

1. First, I deleted everything from the "messages" log
2. I copied all my profiles to the C:\Users\Richard\JMRI directory (I use several)
3. I started Decoder Pro
4. I saw the WiThrottle Server window
5. I briefly saw the DP roster window

Locked Re: Anyone usings MRC with JMRI?

Ah, so in theory I could use my MRC system to simply control trains and have other systems hooked up to the PC directly to control things like turnouts and signals. For some reason I thought everything on the layout had to go through the MRC system. Does everything communicate through the same bus wires that provides power to the track or some other system?

My goal is to have mainline switches and signals controlled from a computer, dispatcher CTC style, the DCC system itself only needs to control locomotives. Although being able to program decoders through JMRI decoder pro would be nice too.

Locked Re: Rolling Thunder 2 JMRI programming

First thing to do is go to Preferences->Roster->Programmer and set Format to Advanced and "Show Empty Programmer Tabs" off (unchecked).

It appears the Rolling Thunder definition only programs the Rolling Thunder upgrade part of the decoder. You will need to use the BLI Paragon Steam definitions to program the rest of the loco CVs.

Rolling thunder is in Paragon 3 (P3) engines. The C&O L1 is a P3
engine. In JMRI you should be using the Paragon 3 tab. I'm not sure
what version 4.6 looks like but would suggest you up grade to 4.7.6. As
my only P3 engines are packed for travel I'm also not sure what the
additional "rolling thunder" tab is used for.

Hi Jerry,
I have the same problem with the Rolling Thunder - I cannot find this at all in JMRI/DecoderPro with a Sprog.
From reading elsewhere it appears that you have to have a BLI system to access this.

This seems to confirm that the full effects are only available when using the BLI system
