Audio and Scripts
Hello and I am in need of help in a couple of areas ?
I am using the latest version of java and the latest test version of JMRI Decoder Pro I want to play wav sounds when I set my routes , I have the wave sounds and I try to use the Audio in panel pro I have added the buffers and audio sources . but i can not get the sound to play when i set my routes? Were do I save the wav file too ? I have tried saving them in panels not sure how or what to do to get this done. The second thing is similar I want to use scripts at some routes were do I create the scripts to and how do I access the scripts to load the in routes ? The script tab under routes has no way for me to load a script |

Re: MTH Proto Sound / Decoder Pro issues?
I dont think MTH has a lock, there is nothing listed in the manual, they are a dcs system, not dcc.

Re: Ops: Timetable, wait time
Try the latest test release 4.7.6. You can now set train departure times to the minute.
Car wait counts are decremented every time a train that can pull the car is built. It is not restored if you then reset the train. There's isn't an easy way today to understand that a car that isn't part of the train being reset needs it's wait count restored. Resetting a train releases cars that were assigned to the train, but a car with a wait count isn't assigned to the train, so the train "reset" function doesn't know which car wait counts were touched during the build. Also car move and track usage counts aren't restored when using a train reset. So things can and do change every time you reset and build a train. If you need consistent train builds, you should use the backup / restore feature. Dan |

Re: MTH Proto Sound / Decoder Pro issues?
Depends on which MTH model you have. The newest models with the DCS/DCC decoders work fine on Decoder Pro. The older P3 models do not. With an older P3 model you can program the long address on the programming track all other CV’s can sometimes be programmed on the main. Each incarnation of the P3 decoder has different issues when using Decoder pro. The last MTH loco I bought was the DM&IR Yellowstone which will program fine on Decoder Pro providing you change the selector switch from DCS to DCC before you put it on powered track. If you attempt to change the switch after it just gets confused and doesn’t know what it is. With any P3 diesel or steam loco I rip out the DCS stuff and replace them with my decoder of choice.

jmri throttle direction control - newbie question
I'm working on my first HO layout and am exploring all my options for DCC controllers. One feature that I'd really like on a hand held controller is a single button that toggles the direction each time the button is pressed. is there a way to customize the jmri throttle so that direction can be toggled using a single "button" instead of individual forward and reverse "buttons"?
Thanks, Rob |

Ops: Timetable, wait time
Question: Is there a way to have ops put the time to the minute (not rounded by 5) into the manifests?
Observation: When doing a build followed by reset, the wait counts on cars are not put back. Is this a known "feature?" |

Hi,

You see half brightness because you are loading the frog lamp with an equal test lamp. The sound decoders are not going to draw nearly as much power as an 1156 test lamp draws. I suspect that you have some real shorting issue going on, not something due to the voltage drop in the frog lamp. I also dislike using the 1156 lamps, but not for the usual reasons that people give. See: for the reason why. Dick :) On 06/17/2017 07:21 AM, Dave Heap dgheap@... [jmriusers] wrote:

A key advantage of the Peer-Peer network is that any device can talk directly to any other device. No computer is required to support even the most basic of communications like a polled protocol requires. You may even have enough horse power in your nodes to do ABS signaling. JMRI is still an important tool during configuration, but if you are writing specific code for each node anyway, you might even be able to skip over the configuration step. MTH Proto Sound / Decoder Pro issues?
Has anyone experienced any problems programming a MTH proto sound 3 locomotive using Decoder Pro?
The PROTO DCC DECODER doesn't want to cooperate with Decoder Pro. Maybe it's just me, but I can't seem to adjust any cv's or settings? Is this a known issue, or am I just lucky...LOL! Thanks |

Re: Turnout Lockout
John,
I am under the impression that JMRI's turnout "lock" feature does not do anything useful for Loconet connections. LocoNet itself does not have any specific "features" to directly support turnout locking. There is one "generic" LocoNet feature which could possibly be used for this (the "Bushby" bit) but noone has submitted any code for JMRI which makes that feature provide any sort of a turnout "lock". There are, however, other approaches. If you are willing to configure a JMRI "Logix" conditional or two for each turnout which you would like to "lock". First, you change the turnout's physical address to be a number which cannot be accessed by a throttle. Then you allocate an internal sensor or LocoNet sensor to act as the "lock" indication for the turnout. Then you create a JMRI Logix to deal with the turnout (or even more than one), then you create a Logix Conditional which is sensitive to the "original, unmodified" turnout address and is also sensitive to the internal/LocoNet "locking" sensor; if the locking sensor is active and the orignal-numbered turnout is changed to "thrown", then send a "change to thrown" message to the renumbered physical turnout. If the locking sensor is active and the original-numbered turnout is changed to "closed", then send a "change to closed" message to the renumbered physical turnout. You can re-use one "locked" sensor for more than one turnout, if appropriate, or implement one "locked" sensor per lockable turnout. But you will need two Logix "conditionals" for each turnout you wish to control, and two "conditional actions" for each turnout you wish to control. With this in place, it is "simply" a matter of deciding how to control the various "locking" sensors. JMRI logix, jython, etc. are possible ways to control those locks. Regards, Billybob |

Re: What protocol is easier for turnout/signals via arduino
Hi Otto,
this seems more promising as after reading about CMRI it is too basic for my needs: I want to be able to throw turnout asynchronously (they take time to be thrown and then signal that they reached the desired position) and I would like to have a "master" node (probably a mega) and then several slaves (uno/leonardo whatever...) over the mega's serial buses or over rs485. I already have sketches for the slaves: turnout positioning, sensors polling, config saved in eeprom, everything (addresses, subaddresses, pins for servo and relays for each turnout, pins for sensor (I/O)) can be set up using messages from the master. The Master sketch still needs more work, an everything needs debugging in general ;-) Can you point me to documentation/code for openLCB to get me started? TIA, Emmanuel |

to their respective stock rails is the reliable way of wiring a turnout for permanent trouble free operation. And you won't ever have to clean the point/stock rail connections again. Andy On 6/16/2017 8:46 PM, rstamm4@... [jmriusers] wrote:
I know this is not directly JMRI related, but I think this is the best DCC forum to mention this observation. For many years I have wired 1156 automotive light bulbs in series with my frog feeders to prevent a short at the switch points, such as from running a closed switch, from taking down my DCC system (Digitrax). I only make cuts on the frog rails on the side away from the points. So in theory, if I have a bad connection between the points and the stock rail, the connection to the frog, through the 1156, will supply power to the frog via the back contacts on a Tortise. Recently I noticed that I had several turnouts where the sound would disappear when a train went through (TCS WOW). Utilizing a test light (another 1156) I discovered that the light was only about half as bright in the areas where the sound disappeared. Cleaning the points and stock rail connection restore the light to full brightness and the sound returned. As an experiment I installed a thin piece of plastic between the stock rail and the points and observed the same situation. Before sound decoders, this wasn't an issue, but now it seems that preventing one problem (a short) can create another (loss of sound). Has anyone else observed this situation? |

Re: Test release 4.7.6 available
Select “save and run. When the save is completed, Norton will provide a warning window that allows you to run the program anyway. About a day or two after a new release, Norton gets much happier.

Turnout Lockout
In the Turnout table, under the LocoNet tab, I have selected Show Feedback Information and Show Lock Information.
I chose to experiment on my turnout entry LT101. Mode is Monitoring and Automation is Off. When I click on Lock Mode, a drop down appears, and I select Both, but the Lock Mode remains at None. I also tried selecting Cab only and Pushbutton, only with no success. If I change the Decoder to NCE/CVP/CVP, I still cannot change the Lock Mode. Also, clicking on Edit Auto does nothing. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks for your help John Burrow |

DR5000 XpressNet
Hi, I am trying to get to grips with the DR5000 with JMRI on XpressNet over LAN or WiFi.
So far, I am having some issues, so I am wondering if anyone has come across them or know of fixes! Firstly, is the DR5000's XpressNet implementation somewhat buggy? For example, when I plug in an LH100 Lenz handheld, Pessing the power off / on button does restore the track power, but does not cut it out, is this by design in the DR5000? Secondly, when I connect to JMRI via the LAN (with XpressNet setup) I cannot seem to get a consistent connection. The XpressNet Activity monitor keeps trying to get the command station status but gets no response. Also, I can use a throttle window to control a loco, but when I hit the power button it turns the track voltage off, but will not then re-store it? I assume it is because the command station is not responding to the request, or actually, not giving a status update that it has carried out the shutdown event. Any thoughts? Thanks Mike |

Re: Test release 4.7.6 available
If I early adopt I get the same Norton window but there is a drop down carrot that I click and say run anyway. Or maybe download. Can't recall, I just never have an issue getting it loaded.

Not entirely surprising, right? Im not a Windows user, so cant give details, but I think your choices are to turn Norton off temporarily, or wait a day or two until enough people have done that for Norton to decide that the download is OK.
