Locked Re: Operations Feature Request #operationspro

Dennis, I have downloaded the latest Creators version and as a test, used it to make this from my csv file for Train 44 (which was run today in our postponed Op Session).? I had to just edit the preference file to hide the rows I did not want to print.? Here is a plain print version:

"Train Manifest #44 Page - 1 - 2/12/2020 21:06
Train departs Elizabeth Northbound 628 Tons 396 Feet Cars-9 (PULL-9)
TSMRI-L&N Old Line
MANIFEST for Train #44
Train departs Tate Northbound 603 Tons 352 Feet Cars-8 (DROP-1)
Train departs Ellijay Northbound 453 Tons 264 Feet Cars-6 (DROP-2)
Train departs Murphy Junction Northbound 252 Tons 176 Feet Cars-4 (PULL-1) (DROP-4)
Train departs Blue Ridge Northbound 531 Tons 308 Feet Cars-7 (PULL-4) (DROP-3)
Train departs Copperhill Northbound 0 Tons 0 Feet Cars-0 (DROP-4)
Train terminates at North Etowah
Created with MC3-4JMRI Version 6.02 06/23/19"

Since I do not use locos on my Operations, no loco information was available to print and I wanted to see how little I would need to change to get what I wanted. So, I did not go into the Visual Basic Code that drives this output from the csv file (other than to comment out a feature for tinting that my Excel 2000 did not like).? I also now see that I inadvertently deleted the departure time, but that may be in the preferences and should be easy to include.

This summary uses the csv file that uses the JMRI Car's information for length and adds it up.? I do not know but would assume that locos also have that kind of information, along with cabeese so an estimated length and tonnage can be calculated and printed by the program (although tonnage may not be needed for Dispatching since assigning motive power is probably not in that position's purview).

Do you use the Creators for Op Sessions?? I find that the improved formatting, straight columns, use of colors and cell lines make for an easier to use and to verify Manifest (and Switchlist for the Yard Crew).?? I have modified mine (the VBA as well as the preferences) to get a more tailored report, but there are several report formats available.? If you do use the Creators, this summary report/Manifest is the result of merely using "Hide" for rows that I don't want to see on the printout.? I hid the following rows: 17 (Header), 37 (Train Originates), 38 (Train Departs), 42 (Hold), 44 (Scheduled work for), 46 (Move), 49 (No work for; although I am torn on that), 50 (Pull) and 58 (Drop). I also left justified (rather than center justify) row 66 (Train departs) and row 75 (Train terminates).?? In our Op Session today, we did look up a train on the summaries I printed to see if it would be able to clear the main without fouling the end of a wye (and it did).

May be too much information, but thinking a little different has often worked for me.? Hopefully something along these lines will work.

Dave,

I am checking my notes and have not found a mention of the SignalHead user information being lost; thus, I can't point you to any work arounds or scenarios that cause or prevent the loss.? Typically, the SignalHead user name is just for documentation and debug purposes, which is why I have never noticed it.? Most users (not all) let CATS create the SignalHeads.? I will let you know if I discover something.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi
I recently got a new digitrax DCS52 controller with booster and usb built in.
I found JMRI so I loaded it and made a roster with my engines. I decided today
to try to do the programming area and print out sheets for all my engines CV
values. I just want to say, the people that invented this have done a great
thing. This is so cool. I now have sheets with all my CV values for my 12
engines. And I have learned I can program with it too. Thanks to the hard
working people that created this program and the user group here

Locked Getting started with Dispatcher - getting an NPE when creating a new Train #dispatcher

I thought I had everything in place to Dispatch a train. At first I was getting messages that the Direction Sensors were missing in several Sections. I added those and now I'm getting Null Pointer Exceptions, followed by security exceptions. I've uploaded the Panel file and the Session log to ProblemsBeingWorkedOn, folder Scott_Walton. I'm sure I'm missing something basic, but I don't know what.

The Environment is Windows, Java 1.8_181, 64 bit, with JMRI 4.19.1. I'm using Digitrax with RR_Cirkits SignalMan for my signals. The Signal Mast Logic should be good for all the signals, I do have one crossover, for which I have a script, rather than Signal Mast logic (but that crossover is not in the transit). Any help would be appreciated.

Roger,

More testing with only one loco. Loco appears in block as should when started. Loco moves across non-transponding block loco identity retained in bock one, ie script does not action a ¡®departure¡¯.

When loco moves into a new transponding block it registers the loco address BUT also removes it from the block it was first registered in. This should not happen (and did not with my earlier script)

I know it is an anomoly but I could see know way to locate a loco that is not active other than to run the full roster at zero speed at startup and this have3 a list on screen of where all locos are.

So how does the new script manage to delete an entry that has was present when the loco moves into a transponding new block?

Bob,

You never need to modify the permissions. ?Being a member of the dialout group provides the necessary permissions.

crw-rw----? 1 root dialout 166,?? 0 Feb 12 16:37 ttyACM0

To verify your group membership:

groups username
username : username adm dialout cdrom sudo dip plugdev lpadmin sambashare

The install instructions need to be updated.

Dave:? I recently moved off of a Win7 box to Linux Mint 19.3

I ran into a spot of trouble with the install.? Did the whole add user to dialout, verified which serial port was actual being used by running the while..do script and watching the port usage in /dev.

One thing the install instructions for Ubuntu did not say was:?? chmod 666 /dev/<whatever port shows up in the while..do script>??? It mentions /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1.

Yes, that's the thought, but I believe it would be a waste to print all the manifests when the information the dispatcher needs does not include what is happening to each individual?car.? Thanks.

Hi Phil,

Thanks a bunch.? What you have is sort of what I'm looking for except I would need the train length in feet since there could be a mix of 40', 50', 70', and up to 89' long cars.? If working locally I could get the lineup off the printer or if working remotely the lineup could be printed as a PDF and emailed to the DS.? Hope this helps.

?
If I knew how to code it I'd do this myself but that's not in the cards.? Thanks.
Dennis, I am not sure how the information is to be delivered to the Dispatcher in his/her remote location.? I had assumed that a printer could spew out the reports needed at the Dispatcher location. If not a direct connection (or networked through TCP/IP somehow, which is above my pay grade), could reports be emailed??

On my JMRI using a highly modified (bastardized some might successfully argue; hope Dan is not listening) Manifest Creator Excel add-on, I can print a report from the csv file that is generated when a train is built.? I normally print all my Manifests and Switchlists to a PDF file and store them for distribution via email or by USB stick.? In testing my idea for a Dispatcher summary, I have generated a report for one train (repeatable for each train built) with a line showing the Station, departure time, direction, quantity of locos assigned (not used on my railroad, but should work if actually used), number of cars and total (estimated) tonnage for each stop on that route.? It could also show full and empty counts, but I do not use that, just total car counts.

Here is a text version of my report:
"Train Manifest #44?? Page - 1? ? 2/10/2020 7:34
MANIFEST for Train #44-
Train departs Elizabeth Northbound @ 13:01 with 1 Locos, 9 Cars , 628 Tons
Train departs Tate Northbound @ 13:02 with 1 Locos, 8 Cars , 603 Tons
Train departs Ellijay Northbound @ 13:11 with 1 Locos, 6 Cars , 453 Tons
Train departs Blue Ridge Northbound @ 13:23 with 1 Locos, 7 Cars , 531 Tons
Train departs Murphy Junction Northbound @ 13:32 with 1 Locos, 4 Cars , 252 Tons
Train departs Copperhill Northbound @ 13:44 with 1 Locos, 0 Cars , 0 Tons
Train terminates at North Etowah"

I do not track cabeese, so that count is not shown and for certain eras would be irrelevant.? For loco count, since I do not use them, I added code so that if 0 then it's 1 since I know the train would have at least one.? If locos are used in JMRI, the csv file generated when a train is built will include adds or drops (helpers) and starting quantity and the code in Excel should use that info.???

Due to the major (for us) snowstorm Saturday, our planned Op Session was postponed until Wednesday, so I might print these out and talk to our Dispatcher about their usefulness.? Maybe something like this would work for your idea, and if so, the Creator's website (if you do not already use them) is .? Since my old Excel doesn't behave with the latest version, I have kept an old one running and keep modifying it to force it to my will, usually with the precision of a crowbar on an HO model (I am a hacker, not a programmer).?

If this is close to what you imagined, maybe Dan or I can come up with how to get it from the new Creator Excel program. Since you are using Operations, the files needed are being generated (csv manifest files) and the Manifest Creator just reads that file and builds the manifest one line at a time.? If all that is needed is the station summary (like I have shown), it may be easier than what I went through to get it.? There may also be a way to get all trains into one long report, but that would take some file manipulation.? One page per train (unless too many stations for one page) may be the best option.?

Hey All,
On a prior setup in the town of Droar Yard (staging) when building a train my track numbers were all in numerical order. On the setup I'm on now in Droar Yard (staging) when I build a train the track sequence is all over the place numerically wise. There are 88 tracks in this location and trying to keep track of the one I'm on is a nitemare. Will this sequence straighten out as I go along manually or did I miss some checkbox along the way?
