Quick question. You say Excel 2000 - Is that a minimum, or exact requirement? For example, I'm running 2010, so I'm out of luck? What's the issue, VBA version compatibility, or something else?

It would have been more correct for me to have replaced the word "append" with the phrase "copy and paste," but at least on this user's group, do not use "attach."

Another alternative is to upload the log to the Files section of this group.

P.J.

Please append a copy of the text in your "Session.log" file found in your JMRI/log folder of equivalently the text displayed when you use the Help -> System console.. menu item.

It is entirely possible that you will be able to solve this yourself with what is discovered in either of those places when the ERROR or WARN messages are investigated. But that is, in part, conjecture, since not all problems are described sufficiently in the log messages.

With out those details, we are forced to speculate, and we all know how much good that might or might not do.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your help.

What I want to do is automatically stop the engine at a precise position along a platform which is an autotrain. The documentation suggests using a stopping sensor, your guidance certainly explains why it did not work for me first time.

So how do I stop the engine? If I use an action to pause the engine moving forward in the section on section entry with the forward stopping sensor then it keeps going. The only thing that I can see in actions is on section entry to set a signal to held, then when the engine triggers the forward stopping sensor it should stop? Is my logic correct?

But when I try to do the is I get the following error:

This is the action dialogue:

I am now using 4.8 having upgraded, which has a lot of great features added to layout editor.

Thanks again.

Mike. Your idea regarding Notepad got me to experiment and come up with a workaround that works. Since JMRI uses Notepad I changed the font in Notepad to "Cooper Black". Now when the switchlist or manifest list is shown I highlight it, select copy, go to Microsoft word and paste it there. Now when I print the switch list or manifest it prints the dark readable copy of the switchlist as shown on the JMRI screen
Thanks so much for your help and inspiration.

Screen capturing a window gives you the 'graphic' image which is going to
have the actual fonts and colors displayed on the screen. In many cases
the text is not a deep black but a lighter grey or some other color. The
printer is reproducing the 'lightness' of the actual font.

A couple of things you can try. First, bring up the printer properties in
the print dialog and make sure it is printing in black and white. Not
color or gray-scale. Secondly you might be able to modify the text color
and font style in the program itself to give you a true black text in the
display. Third, maybe you can highlight, cut and paste the listing from
the program window into Notepad so you can get actual text which you can
resize and bolden before you print. It is very possible that the position
formatting will get all screwed up though.

Be interested to hear what if anything works for you.

You should only buy surge protectors both whole house or power strip that display their status. My whole house protection panel show 2 greens if all is okay (2 phases). If the system trips then the green lights are out..

You do have to check the panels if you want the status and if you don't replace the module before another hit happens, you have no protection.

Hi
To add a Sensor to a layout panel, add icon and select "Sensor icon".Stopping sensors fwd and back are relative to the fwd back of the block / section direction not the direction of the loco. They are used to position the train if it's been requested to stop, not to stop a train at a proceed signal, for that use an action, or manually change signal to red.Depending on your version of JMRI the clicking on the sensor only works with no zoom.?

Hi,

Just to add...

I have worked out that I can hand edit the layout xml file to add an ON SENSOR ACTIVE/INACTIVE action. When I do I can stop the engine at the appropriate point at a station. The TransitSectionAction?
documentation in the Javadoc documentation tells you how to do this.

There does not seem to be anyway to add it using Layout Editor nor the SET SENSOR ACTIVATE/INACTIVE events. Am I missing something.

Nice to hear from you Denny!

Your experience raises another point: Surge protectors don¡¯t last forever. After enough hits (or a big enough single hit), they¡¯re not ¡°protecting¡± any more. This can lead to a false sense of confidence¡.
