Locked Re: layout editor defaults #layouteditor

The Layout Editor "Options -> Track Options -> Hide Track Construction Lines" menu item is a temporary setting for the current PanelPro session. ?To make a permanent change, use the "Hide Construction Line" item from the right click context menu for each track segment.

Can 'Hide Track Construction Lines' be set as a default? Perhaps I am doing something wrong but, despite hiding he construction lines and saving the panel, the construction lines are showing when the panel is opened again.

I'm running Steve Todds JMRI image on a RasPi and I've noticed that when you move open windows around, they are "in front" of the task bar and not behind it

And not just JMRI windows, but that's the primary use

Is there a setting i'm missing somewhere that allows windows to slide "behind" the taskbar??

Locked Re: Saving Throttles #jmrithrottle

I have created a new throttle, saved the default layout, added engines to the layout, and saved the throttle layout. I've tried loading the throttle layout, and opening the default layout and merging the throttles. I tried every combination that I can see. I don't know about them being loaded too early. I've tried before and after the panel is loaded. Sometimes the throttles will load, but mostly not.

Locked Re: Transfer track plan to another PC

Colin,

-- Machine 1 --

The log for the first machine indicates that it is using Java 1.8 and JMRI 4.26.

You are trying to load to xml data files. ?That is not recommended.

C:\Users\colin\JMRI\Singlexmls.jmri\060824 Mainall_28072022.xml
C:\Users\colin\JMRI\Singlexmls.jmri\140924_trackplan.xml?

The first file fails since it appears to have been created by a machine running JMRI 5.6. ?JMRI 4.26 cannot load xml files created by JMRI releases after 4.26.

-- Machine 2 --

The log for the second machine indicates that it is using Java 19 and JMRI 5.6.

Java 19 is not recommended for JMRI. ?Java 17 is recommended and works.

----------------------------------

To figure out what should be done, we need 3 files from machine 1:

C:\Users\colin\JMRI\Singlexmls.jmri\060824 Mainall_28072022.xml
C:\Users\colin\JMRI\Singlexmls.jmri\140924_trackplan.xml?
C:\Users\colin\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\profile\profile.xml

We need 1 file from machine 2:

C:\Users\colin\JMRI\My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri\profile\profile.xml

Upload these to a folder at the group's ProblemsBeingWorkedOn file folder. ?You will need to modify the name of one of the "profile.xml" files to prevent duplicates.

Colin,

The panel you try to load seems to be created with JMRI 5.5.5 or later. But you are using JMRI 4.26. The problem is that you cannot load a file with JMRI 4.26 which is created by JMRI 5.5.5.

Is it possible for you to upgrade JMRI to 5.6 or 5.8? If so, you will also need to uninstall Java 8 and then install Java 11. See this page:

Locked New laptop - NCE USB interface problems #nce

I have bought a new Laptop running Windows 11. ? I have checked that its drivers are all up to date.
PanelPro is loaded and works ok in NCE simulation mode. ? When changed to NCE USB?
it finds COM 4 but does not connect to the interface. ?I have followed the advice given on this site and set up the interface with jumpers on 2,3 and 4 and changed the baud rate to 19600 with no improvement.
?
My existing laptop is running Windows 10 and when started it finds COM 3 and connects at 9600 baud with no problems. ?There are no jumpers on 1,2,3 and 4 on the interface. ?

I attach a copy of the system console.

Help!

Locked Saving Throttles #jmrithrottle

All,
?
I'm frustrated with saving my throttles and trying to load them again when I restart the RPI. I keep getting a failed to load throttles message. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. The message locks things up and a reboot is needed.
?
Any hints on how to save throttles and bring them back on a reboot?
?
Thanks,

Dave,?

Can you explain to me how you found the problems detailed below.? I know I will likely never understand signals like you, but if I can use what tools and methods you do maybe I do a better job fixing my problems.

I deleted signal mast 583 because I did not think it served any purpose.? It was located to the left of 582 in the reversing loop at the bottom of the layout diagram.? Correct me if I am Wrong.

Stephen,

You have a number of issues.

14:16:16,420 exml.DefaultSignalMastLogicManagerXml ERROR - Source Mast 583-H2-H1 Not found, logic not loaded [AWT-EventQueue-0]

583-H2-H1 has references from signal mast logic and two sections.

582-H2-H1 is not attached to a block boundary.

The block routing tables are not generated during startup.

To clean things up, I deleted the 582-H2-H1 icon, attached it to the H2-H1 block boundary on turnout 61 and then ran the GrandReset.py script. ?After using "Auto Generate Signaling Pairs" from "Tools -> Signal Mast Logic", the internal problems have been resolved.

537 to 545 is caused by turnout 26 being included in the C3 block and/or turnout 25 being included in the B4 block. ?It is ok to delete the bad pair.

561 to 570 is caused by block J7 being non-contiguous. ?Look at the track segments near 58 and 21.

577 to 562 is valid. ?577 does have a different problem. ?The possible aspects created by 561 and 562 are disabled in 577 so it always displays Stop.

I have checked the signal mast logic for all of my signal mast. Did Discovery on any mast that did not seem to fit and made corrections.

I have 3 signals that have what I consider are incorrect paths and I can not determine why.

537-D2-B4 is finding signal 545-F3-F5 in discovery.

561-G5-G8?is finding signal 570-C2-G2 in discovery.

577-D3-G8?is finding signal 562-G5-G8? in discovery.

In the cases above if you just delete the incorrect path, does that correct the logic?

Signal Mast Logic Table.? Tools.? How and when are the three sections used?? I could not find definitions for these selections in help.

Thanks

Stephen Marler

My corrected file has been uploaded.

Stephen,

You have the signal masts protecting the wrong blocks.

I suspect that you rotated them to make them "look" right.

You need to remove them from the anchor point and re-attach them. ?Then you need to redo the SML for these AND for the masts that should point to these masts.

My signal mast have been in operation for over a year and were working correctly.? I am trying figure out why they are not at this point. I am in the process of going through the signal mast logic to see if it makes sense to me. I will post problems that I can not figure out.

I have uploaded the most recent revision of my file.?

The signal mast logic discovery for signal mast 550 is not finding the next destination mast which I think should be mast 555. It seems to be skipping to 555 and 530 and going to 544.? 544 does not seem correct as I think if 555 and 530 are skipped it would find mast 543? and not mast 544.

Any help is always appreciated.

David Sand has been very helpful with signal mast issues in the past.

I don't know where you are starting from, but here are the steps to successful signal mast operation:
?
1. Define the signals (signal mast table)
2. Define detectors (sensor table)
3. Define blocks (block table, set sensors)
4. Set signals at turnouts/anchors on layout panel
5. Generate SML through discovery (signal mast table)
?
Detectors and turnout status will set aspects correctly, according to your selected signal system, using signal mast logic.

Locked Re: NCE CS03 Connection

James,

In general, it isn't possible to reestablish the connection for some
devices. A lot of it is the drivers of devices themselves and how JMRI
binds things together. A few things like network connections have the
idea from the start that the physical layer may have to
restart/reconnect. Most other things never had that as a design
feature.

Also having JMRI sit there playing are you there isn't a great use of
computing power. All sorts of internal things are cleaned up only on
the exit and later restart of JMRI. That's just the cleaner and safer
way.

Thanks, Ken. That makes sense about the NCE USB adapter receiving power from the PC and being lost when the CS03 powers off. Is it possible to have JMRI "refind" the NCE USB connection once its powered up without all of JMRI being restarted? Perhaps some sort of script or function that I'm not aware of?

Ok Thanks Ken and Dave. Being the single operator I was _not_ trying to emulate a prototypical system but instead make something as a layout visual. More reading to do then if I am to use multi-headed SML masts. Since all of my physical masts and dwarfs are single headed, I’ll start with single headed high masts for traffic until I add multi-head masts when I understand rolling everything together, blocks and turnouts.

I don't know which window manager is used by default with the LX desktop used
with the RPi, but it might be possible to tell the window manager to have the
property "always on top" associated with lxpanel windows (what yoy are calling
the taskbar is a lxpanel). Since *I* don't use the default window manager, I
don't know how it is configured. (I always install my window manager of
choice: fvwm2. And generally re-configure the desktop to something very
different from the stock default.)
