What is "egroups"?
Ahhhh! Michael... Thank you, thank you.... you are indeed a man of succinct talents....:-) Yolanda PS... I sent this message to the "old" IOMUG address and it bounced back saying I wasn't authorized to send .... now will try sending to both the old and the new... or did I get mysteriously "unsubscribed" as seems to happen to all of us once in awhile?....:-) :Gosh.... no comment anyway. I'll use restraint. :eGroups is a popular mailing list hosting service. : :A certain time ago, the owner of the list notified us that IOMUG was moving :from its traditional host (University of Texas in Arlington) to a new host, :which was to be determined. : :A few days ago, the same list owner told us that we would be resubscribed to :the new IOMUG list in eGroups, and that the old list on UTA server would :vanish by the end of the year or sooner. : :Let's recap: : :1- IOMUG moves out of UTA, and is now hosted by eGroups. :2- The old list will die by the end of the year. :3- The posting address becomes iomug@... :4- Everybody, or so I would think, has been subscribed to the new IOMUG at :eGroups. : : :Munger : :<------ Personal ----------------------- Work ----------> :<- http://www.munger.ca/ - http://www.cyberpresse.ca/ -> :<------------------------- Writer at -------------------------> :<- http://www.macobserver.com/ - http://www.lowendmac.com/ -> :<- http://www.macsoldiers.com/ - http://www.macaddict.com/ -> :<---------------------------------------------------------------> ==

Digest Number 1
Wow! Does anyone know of any scripts available (free or otherwise) that will do this in Eudora Pro? (Paid version, 4.3.3) I know I'm probably dreaming... I just joined the IOMUG list a month ago and am enjoying it immensely--thanks everyone! Stacey -- Big Head Todd and the Monsters <http://www.bigheadtodd.com>

Reading egroup messages 3
How can I separate the egroup digest into separate messages? And.. NO, I do not want to receive individual messages as they just clutter up a mailbox. With other digests I use the utility Burst to extract the individual messages, but I have not been able to use it successfully with the new egroup digest. The value to me in having separate messages is that I can select the ones that I want to save, and then transfer them to another mailbox. ...Fred

Quicktime 4.1.2
Hiya.... My Computer is a Macintosh Beige G3 minitower, circa 1998, with 266Mhz, 128MB and OS 8.1 I went to the website of my favorite radio talk show host and decided I wanted to try listening to the show online. A message from the website told me, that inorder to listen online, I needed to download MS Media player 6.3 for Mac (yuk), which I did. When I tried to use it, it told me I needed a newer version of Quicktime (I had version 2.1). I went to the Quicktime download site and downloaded the newest version ... 4.1.2. The Quicktime Readme seems to be saying I can do almost anything with sound but fly to the moon. Now, I'm wondering if I really need MS Media player 6.3 and is it possible I could use Quicktime 4.1.2 to listen to the talkshow, instead? Media players and I are complete strangers except for opening those sent-to-me sound and music files with SoundApp and MPEG players like Real Audio which no longer seems to be free. All enlightenment is welcome....:-) I hope I'm in the right pew...:-)... I tried sending to IOMUG at the "old" location and got an "unauthorized" rejection slip. So I'm assuming the moving truck has arrived early at the new destination, known as "e" in my nickname file. I'd heard the move wouldn't be complete till January 1st. Yolanda ==

Reading egroup messages
Go to the eGroups web site and change your subscription settings from receiving HTML messages to receiving plain text messages. When you do you'll still get ads, but they'll be text ads instead of the banners you don't appreciate. Jon Bonner

Entourage??? 5
Hello Members, My first posting to "e-groups" after years of posting to IOMUG... I've recently seen some references to "Entourage" a combo e-mail client and PIM from Microsoft. I have three questions: 1. Is it any good? 2. Is it free 3. If the answers to 1 & 2 are "yes" then where can I get it? Thanks, Paul M. Top menu bar 3
A program I recently installed placed a drop down window on the very top menu bar (the one in line with the colored apple). I have trashed the program, used find to discover any other files for the program and trashed them. I still can't get its drop down window off the menu bar. This is probably something very basic (and outlined in every manual known to mankind) but I still can't figure it out. Help, please. Virginia

I want my MIME DIGEST???
Hiya.... e-groups. I want my IOMUG MIME DIGEST back..... :-((( Will that be possible with "e-groups"??? Or is e-groups just one more of those "new" and "improved" liberal methods of driving a populace insane? Eudora de-dupe
Daly, The BBEdit method would be fine for my personal address book, but I maintain a mailing list of 5,000 plus names and addresses (not to mention "groups" of names assigned to one nickname). Using a script to search out duplicates would be very helpful to me. Ideally, Eudora would add this function to their software-I've already submitted it to their "wish-list". Password 2
I'm again requesting instructions on how to assess member only information at the web site. The password I was given in an e-mail with all the changes doesn't work. I have tried it numerous times to make sure I wasn't typing it wrong. Has anyone else had this problem? Most importantly how do I get this problem handled? Thanks. Picture ads/HTML was Re: Reading egroup messages
The LIST needs to be made non-HTML before the pieces will go away. I have mine set to no HTML - and still get the pictures. The LIST needs to be set to accept NO ATTACHMENTS - this will turn all the picture ads into simple typewritten ads as below: While it is annoying, it is MUCh better than the flashing picture and then all those items get stuck in my Eudora mail and I have to delete them manually eventually! At 11:11 PM -0500 on 12/16/00, I heard from Daniel Gagner, saying: When you do this, do you leave it upside down or turn it back over? I have a 2 gig drive that got hot and I think the heads stuck to the platter. I haven't messed with it much - need to get something to transfer to before I start it up! I thought you couldn't move the drives while they are on - or am I mistaken? Michele _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? FW: Reading egroup messages 7
I receive my IOMUG mail via OE 5.02, at Earthlink. Beginning today, most of the individual messages I've received (like this one) have included an eGroups Sponsor ad. They take forever to load, and I'd rather not have to deal with them. Since the group's move to eGroups, I've been more than a little confused. I had hoped to wait until we'd officially left the UTA site before making any drastic changes to my subscription. Is there some re-setting of my OE prefs that I need to attend to ? or should the ads be eliminated on the sender's end of the posts? -Patrick Benton ---------- From: "Fred J. I can help with this part. Under the file menu, choose "Work Offline." You will have to override this setting every time you do mail, but it beats the reconnects. ---Tim Archer Cordoba, Argentina (which is a long way from Northern Alberta)

Top Menu Bar
Much thanks to Albert Johnson and Brent Pennington for pointing out that my problem was probably with an extension or two which needed to be turned off to clean up my menu bar. I found two which looked suspicious, turned them off, restarted and it worked. Thanks again.......what a great list! Virginia

Maintenance manuals 2
A while ago, if you were clever/lucky, you could get Apple maintenance manuals in pdf format (not handbooks) by downloading them from the APPLE Europe ftp site. I got a couple (for old kit) which have proved invaluable. However, with the passage of time I find the need for a couple more but the old ftp address has come up with a blank. Obviously Apple are not interested in giving folk easy access to these things because they are meant for the official repair chaps but, for those of us who know how to use a soldering iron and how not to die from intimate struggles with a CRT, it seems a little Blairish to take them away. Does anyone know if they have been moved and, if so, where to? Thanks Drew

Outlook Express vs Eudora Pro 3.1.3
I am currently using a somewhat dated version of Eudora Pro; i.e., v3.1.3 I would be much obliged if anyone would care to comment on whether it would behoove me to dump my version of Eudora Pro in favor of the most recent version of Outlook Express. Many thanks, Seeker.

System Heap 4
What would be a good way to allocate more memory to the system software so that it has more breathing space under Mac OS 9 ? I notice that when I have several applications opened, it slows down a bit and its memory bar in the "About this computer" window gets full when it does this.
