MacPGP / Eudora Question
Hello, Is there still a version of Envelope, it was an old app that served as an interface between Eudora and MacPGP 2.6.3? Is there a way to incorporate PGP into Eudora so that copying to and from the clipboard for encrypting won't be necessary? All the best, BrianS

I/O MUG Mail List kill digest mode?
Connect to <http://www.egroups.com/mygroups> Enter your E-mail address. You probably have "forgotten your Password" (unless you are a regular user of Egroups mailing lists). So go through the "forgot password" process. It will be e-mailed to you within a minute (assuming your ISP processes e-mail that fast 8=}}). Then log in and follow the prompts for your settings Of course you can always use the command line oriented LISTSERV commands, if you want. 8=}} NOT. Sandy Shaw

Acrobat problems
I have Adobe Acrobat 4 as well as Acrobat Reader installed on my Mac. Whenever I launch either of the two the program freezes. All I can do is force quit, hope my entire system doesn't crash, then restart my Macintosh. I reinstalled Acrobat and reapplied the updater, but it didn't help. So basically I have no idea why it would be doing this. Any ideas? Jon Bonner

I agree. Having replies go to the author kind of prohibits list discussions, don't you think? PS. OE and Entourage's mailing list manager can override the default reply address, just FYI. Jon Bonner

Acrobat fails to see TIFFs
Recently I've encountered a problem with Acrobat Distiller, versions 3 and 4. When I print from QuarkXPress 4.1 to PDF I very frequently end up with PDF files which do not include the TIFFs which were part of the XPress document. Note that I say "frequently;" often the PDF file is perfect. Also, if I save the XPress file as an EPS (from the file menu in XPress) I create an EPS that *can* be distilled with all elements complete. The expression "Duhhhh" springs instantly to my lips. I appeal to the Mavenhood of the List. Thank you. - Tuva Spalding "The gods themselves struggle vainly with stupidity." - Schiller

Batch Convert to picture clipping? 3
Does anyone know of an app that can batch convert images (primarily .jpg, .gif, and .bmp) into picture clippings? I really need this to save myself a LOT of manual converting. Thanks in advance. -- "Behind every successful man there's a lot of unsuccessful years." - Bob Brown

ScanWizard 5
My ScanWizard program, part of my MicroTek scanner purchase, refuses to find AOL when I attempt to designate a e-mail carrier for my photo downloads. I open the appropriate AOL folder and see all the other parts of the AOL program, but not the application symbol. If you are familiar with ScanWizard v5, and have any clue as to how to make this work, I'd appreciate your assistance. JD Rose

egroup individual messages 2
The 'Reply-To' for individual messages should be set to 'iomug@...'. I am receiving messages that if 'replied-to' will be addressed to the sender of the message. The digests, on the other hand is configured properly.

Digital Cameras
A few weeks back I asked the IOMUG list for their collective opinion on Digital cameras. After much research, I decided to buy a Kodak DC 290. It features a 16mb card a 3X optical zoom and 2 megapixel resolution. I paid $529 for it complete with rechargeable batteries, charger and AC adapter. After using it for a week or so, I just wanted to tell the group that it takes INCREDIBLE photos and the included software is excellent. Connected via USB cable, the camera "mounts" just like a hard drive. Photos can be dragged to your HD easily and quickly. It comes bundled with Photodeluxe 2.0 and Pagemill 3.0 I've been printing the output with an Epson 880 printer which has been very rewarding in terms of quality and speed. the printer is almost silent! To round out my Christmas purchases, I bought an additional 128mb of RAM for my bronze Powerbook....for $89 from MacZone. To anyone considering Digital, this camera is a very good choice in my opinion. Paul M. Window Shade
A week or two ago, someone wrote to the list mourning the fact that since OS 9, we had lost the ability to roll up a window by double-clicking on its title bar. Someone else replied that you can still use the right-hand button on the title bar to collapse the window. I was in a rush at the time, but this has bothered me, so now I am writing to correct this person's impression. The ability to do WindowShade with a double-click is not lost, but you have to go set it. Go to your Appearance control panel and choose the Options tab. There, you can set it to "Double Click title bar to collapse windows." Daly

dragging items across hard drives 3
Hi everyone. This may be a bit clumsy to describe. Some of my Macs have more than one internal hard drive. When dragging items from one drive to another the item is of course, copied rather than simply moved from point A to point B. This unwanted copying occurs even when moving items from a non-startup drive to the desktop. Duplicating and deleting items appearing has become tedious. Is there a modifier key (or keys) that would prevent the copying, and allow a mere moving? This act would almost be the opposite of holding the Option key when dragging an item on a single drive, when one does wish to make a duplicate. Thanks in advance, Mason mailto:mason@...

acrobat
I am not sure why you ar having your problem, but when I have made pdfs I would use a post script print driver and print to file. Then using distiller I would make a pdf of the .ps file. I have acrobat 3 on my mac and this seems to work perfectly. I have Acrobat 4 on my pc and I have been able to print to file on a mac and copy it over to my pc to make a pdf with 4 and never had a problem. dd _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/

Greetings, I, too, am looking for a resume template. However, I have AppleWorks 6. Is there one hiding in there somewhere? If not, are there any suggestions or does anyone know of any freeware? Also, I have been trying to learn how to create links, so when I'm sending someone an e-mail & I want to refer them to a web site they can just click on it. I have been told to just type in the web site & I've also been told to put Chevrons around the web site. ie: <> I have tried both ways but can't get it to work. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong? Greetings, I guess this would be a question for Mark Luffman, I don't know. I received the e-mail saying how the digest was moving to egroups & I have been receiving it. In that email I was given the web site & a password. I was able to access the web site OK. However, when I tried to sign in, I kept getting that I was using the wrong password. I tried several times to make sure it wasn't due to a typo, but it wouldn't accept the password I had been given. What do I do now? Thanks. Mail Probs
Hello, For the last seven days I've been on Sprint.ca for my internet connection. The helpful folks there gave me smtp.sprint.ca for the smtp (outgoing) mail address. Every letter I have sent was returned to me as 'undeliverable', four days after having been sent. This morning, after being told by Sprint ("we don't support macintosh with technical service"), that it was "probably a TCP/IP problem" on MY end, I went back and switched the smtp address to "mail.sprint.ca" and all is well. Whaddya know? I sent letters to a lot of people, so , NO, I haven't turned rude, or disappeared, and i apologize for the rants I may have sent to my LISTSERV digest people regarding "why aren't you remailing my posts?" Now I know. Sorry for the rants, inconveniences, and, invisibility. It's rather awful to be on an amazing machine (which the Mac is) in a world of PC "techs" whose orthodox reply is "download another Windoze98" or whatever, what a pathetic bunch... All the Best. iCab Questions
Hello, I'll try to be brief... I'm on a 68k mac, using the 68k version (latest) of iCab's browser. It's really nice but.... * Any file that is downloaded as a jpeg or other pic file type is sent as an application which, when clicked upon, generates the old -192 (PPC app on a 68k) dialog... WHY? Is there no 68k code in their fat binary to handle this type of download? my only work-around, so far, is to run Navigator (boooo!!! ). please, any ideas? TIA All the best, BrianS
