I am not sure why you ar having your problem, but when I have made pdfs I
would use a post script print driver and print to file. Then using distiller I would make a pdf of the .ps file. I have acrobat 3 on my mac and this seems to work perfectly. I have Acrobat 4 on my pc and I have been able to print to file on a mac and copy it over to my pc to make a pdf with 4 and never had a problem. dd _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card |

An AppleScript would probably suffice; something that works with contextual menus might be the best. You would select a file, Control-Click it, and then pick the option from the popup menu; it might be called "Just Move," for instance. The script would then need to let you navigate to the folder you want to move the file to. The great shareware application, FinderPop, already has such an action built in along with dozens of others. Reading egroup messages
Fred J. Keene
How can I separate the egroup digest into separate messages? And.. NO, I do not want to receive individual messages as they just clutter up a mailbox.
With other digests I use the utility Burst to extract the individual messages, but I have not been able to use it successfully with the new egroup digest. The value to me in having separate messages is that I can select the ones that I want to save, and then transfer them to another mailbox. ...Fred |
Window Shade
A week or two ago, someone wrote to the list mourning the fact that since OS 9, we had lost the ability to roll up a window by double-clicking on its title bar. Someone else replied that you can still use the right-hand button on the title bar to collapse the window. I was in a rush at the time, but this has bothered me, so now I am writing to correct this person's impression. The ability to do WindowShade with a double-click is not lost, but you have to go set it. Go to your Appearance control panel and choose the Options tab. There, you can set it to "Double Click title bar to collapse windows."

Digital Cameras
Paul M. Hellings
A few weeks back I asked the IOMUG list for their collective opinion on
Digital cameras. After much research, I decided to buy a Kodak DC 290. It features a 16mb card a 3X optical zoom and 2 megapixel resolution. I paid $529 for it complete with rechargeable batteries, charger and AC adapter. After using it for a week or so, I just wanted to tell the group that it takes INCREDIBLE photos and the included software is excellent. Connected via USB cable, the camera "mounts" just like a hard drive. Photos can be dragged to your HD easily and quickly. It comes bundled with Photodeluxe 2.0 and Pagemill 3.0 I've been printing the output with an Epson 880 printer which has been very rewarding in terms of quality and speed. the printer is almost silent! To round out my Christmas purchases, I bought an additional 128mb of RAM for my bronze Powerbook....for $89 from MacZone. To anyone considering Digital, this camera is a very good choice in my opinion. Paul M. Entourage???
Paul M. Hellings
Hello Members,
My first posting to "e-groups" after years of posting to IOMUG... I've recently seen some references to "Entourage" a combo e-mail client and PIM from Microsoft. I have three questions: 1. Is it any good? 2. Is it free 3. If the answers to 1 & 2 are "yes" then where can I get it? Thanks, Paul M. I use Mailing List Manager in Entourage to override the list setting and reply to the list by default. I also, with this list, am receiving the digest, and use two AppleScripts (which I have for Outlook Express and Entourage) that will reply, respectively, "In Digest to List" or "In Digest to Author", when a message within the digest is selected. Furthermore, I use another script to strip out the "[listname]" prefix used in the subject field by many lists, and to eliminate the Egroups ads at the bottom. Scripts are great! Re: ScanWizard 5
My ScanWizard program, part of my MicroTek scanner purchase, refuses to find AOL when I attempt to designate a e-mail carrier for my photo downloads. I open the appropriate AOL folder and see all the other parts of the AOL program, but not the application symbol.
If you are familiar with ScanWizard v5, and have any clue as to how to make this work, I'd appreciate your assistance. JD Rose |

dragging items across hard drives
Mason Radkoff
Hi everyone.
This may be a bit clumsy to describe. Some of my Macs have more than one internal hard drive. When dragging items from one drive to another the item is of course, copied rather than simply moved from point A to point B. This unwanted copying occurs even when moving items from a non-startup drive to the desktop. Duplicating and deleting items appearing has become tedious. Is there a modifier key (or keys) that would prevent the copying, and allow a mere moving? This act would almost be the opposite of holding the Option key when dragging an item on a single drive, when one does wish to make a duplicate. Thanks in advance, Mason mailto:mason@... |

Acrobat fails to see TIFFs
Recently I've encountered a problem with Acrobat Distiller, versions 3 and 4.
When I print from QuarkXPress 4.1 to PDF I very frequently end up with PDF files which do not include the TIFFs which were part of the XPress document. Note that I say "frequently;" often the PDF file is perfect. Also, if I save the XPress file as an EPS (from the file menu in XPress) I create an EPS that *can* be distilled with all elements complete. The expression "Duhhhh" springs instantly to my lips. I appeal to the Mavenhood of the List. Thank you. - Tuva Spalding "The gods themselves struggle vainly with stupidity." - Schiller |

I really need this to savemyself a LOT of manual converting.Graphic Converter is great. It even makes web pages with thumbnail links to larger images. You have complete control over sizes, etc. Photoshop also has a similar feature. There are other apps that also do this. I'd love to find one that would convert my photos to a quicktime movie slide show. This would make a simple way of sharing photos that can be reviewed quickly, sent as attachments, archived, etc. Mark Luffman |

I agree. Having replies go to the author kind of prohibits listdiscussions, don't you think? This setting results in helping each user think twice about sending a message to the group. It helps those who do not think about it, or do not know, to not send private or personal messages to the group. List discussions are not prohibited at all. This helps keep unnecessary postings out of the list. Please post responsibly. Try using the web interface where you can reply to a posting and then click a pop-up list to choose the group address. You can also change your settings for digests, individual or web-only messages. I am writing this response on the web interface now. Enjoy I/O MUG! Mark Luffman |
