Tuner
20
Just bought an IC7000 and am new to the group. I'll be using it mainly for POTA work, using an 40-10 endfed antenna. Do I need a tuner? If so, and there isn't an AT-180 available, what should I look for? Thanks, Pete K2UPD

Removing head unit regularly
8
Hi all, Apologies if you¡¯ve already seen this post on Facebook. I¡¯ve just mounted my IC7000 using a DM5AL separation kit in my car and was planning on removing the head unit between use, just wondering if this is ok or might cause issues? I¡¯ve noticed that the retaining clip that pulls back on the head unit has got scratched a hit it the post on the DM5AL mount and wondering if this might cause issues longer term, also wondering about wear on the spring pins pins in the head unit, just wondering if these parts or any others are likely to break and if so if they are replaceable with parts available! (P.s Ive read that the base unit needs unplugging from power when the head unit is attached/detatched so I¡¯ll fit a switch in the power cable) Thanks James

Does anyone have any ideas why transmit will often start, stop momentarily at the very beginning of the transmit period, then continue in WSJT-X? -- Paula K7PAX

TUNER
The inexpensive D7DDC design ATU-100 100 watt autuners advertized on Ebay and Amazon work great. $73 fully assembled: https://www.ebay.com/itm/134226040446 $30 kit, no enclosure: https://www.ebay.com/itm/154835157861 These can be modified to connect to the 4 pin Icom TUNER port. Operate from your transceiver TUNER button: Solder a 560 ohm resistor to via "A6" on tuner. Connect to Icom TUNER pin 1 (_KEY). Solder a 560 ohm resistor to "B" header on tuner. Connect to Icom TUNER pin 2 (_START). Connect "+" header pin on tuner to Icom TUNER pin 3 (+12v). Connect "-" header pin on tuner to Icom TUNER pin 4 (GND). The current limiting resistors protect the tuner micro I/O pins from an accidental connection to +12 volts or ground. Recommend strapping 100pF capacitors to ground on these pins to keep out stray RF. Wnen the Icom transceiver senses 2 volts or more on _KEY when _START goes low, the Icom transceiver automatically limits power to 10 watts while tuning (when _KEY is then driven low by the tuner). On other transceivers, the operator mustmanually limit power to 10 watts while tuning, to protect the tuner's relay contacts. microphone
2
A replacement HM-151 microphone for the Icom IC-7000 and IC-7100 transceiver is expensive https://www.ebay.com/itm/394089362001 A less expensive replacement is a clone of the HM-133 microphone https://www.ebay.com/itm/234052502450 The buttons on the HM-133 are recognized by the IC-7000, but the button legends are different (see image). If you can scavenge the silicone rubber button button legends from the old HM-151, it will fit in the HM-133 shell. Sound Card Modes through the Control Head
6
My IC-7000 has given me ten years of loyal service in my Pathfinder, mostly on SSB., The radio body and the LDG antenna tuner are mounted out of the way back in a storage area in the luggage area near the HF antenna mount, while the control head and speaker are mounted up front by the driver's seat. Does anyone have ideas for getting on sound card modes such as FT8 or Winlink using a laptop physically connected to the IC-7000 control head only? Getting temporary computer connections to the radio body itself would be impossible. What small commercial interfaces might be used to connect a laptop temporarily to the control head when operating such digital modes is desired? Thanks & 73 Gary, K2GW

IC-7000 Remote
5
I have not used my IC-7000 for some time. I was thinking of trying to use it as a remote HF rig at some family land a few miles from home. Does anyone know the best way to set up a 7000 to operate remotely? That or sell it, and the tuner, remote head kit/cable and find a radio better suited for remote control. Thanks

Rumor mills time!!! 7000/7100 replacement?
13
Now Allan is going to kill me with this one ;P Wondering if anyone heard anything about a new 100w mobile from ICOM? Lets face it the 706/7000 formfactor was a lot better than the 7100, I would even argue that the 746based user interface was not the greatest... yes the 7100 had a lot more features... but... And the 7100 is way past its due date to be replaced... So WHEN... OH! When... My guess would be a 705/905 form factor, 100w, Bluetooth, Wifi, HF/VHF/UHF... 7300/705/905/9700/etc... user interface what say you... 73 Richard VE2DX, Jesus Island, PQ-014 VE2DX ELECTRONIC WWW.VE2DX.COM Only the Best ICOM, ERC and HRD /g/CIV Follow my projects on www.facebook.com/VE2DX/

Audio Levels Very Low - Normal?
6
I recently purchased a used IC-7000 that did not come with a Mic. I bought a no-name one on Amazon and it had very low audio levels, I can hardly get the ALC to budge unless I drop plosives into the mic. Thinking it was just a dogy mic I bought a genuine Icom HM-151 off of eBay and it seems to have the same issue. It helps if I turn the mic gain up to 100% of course but that doesn't seem to be the right way to use this rig. My question is - is this normal behavior for this radio or did I get a broken rig? Appreciate any knowledge and guidance this group can provide.

NEW ICOM METER with CI-V for 16 ICOM radios
13
Hello guys, as some of you are aware I have a small lab where I work on Ham Radio devices and have been doing a lot of work around CI-V devices and hubs. Well after many months of work, I am introducing this week my ICOM Meter this meter was originally based on the work done and published in QST that I modified as shown in Dayton to adapt my new VE2DX CT17B-Micro Internal RF Filtered 3 Ports CI-V Ports. My new meter supports 15 Icom radios via CI-V and 1 via BT (705), and will link Bluetooth and Cabled devices like radios or OEM CI-V devices. one of the new features is that S-Meter is always selected and when you transmit you can select ALC, SWR or Power. Also, the Bluetooth link can be used to connect your computer or cellphone to your CI-V devices and radio for use with software like HRD.
