Sound Card Modes through the Control Head
My IC-7000 has given me ten years of loyal service in my Pathfinder, mostly on SSB., The radio body and the LDG antenna tuner are mounted out of the way back in a storage area in the luggage area near the HF antenna mount, while the control head and speaker are mounted up front by the driver's seat. Does anyone have ideas for getting on sound card modes such as FT8 or Winlink using a laptop physically connected to the IC-7000 control head only?? Getting temporary computer connections to the radio body itself would be impossible.? What small commercial interfaces might be used to connect a laptop temporarily to the control head when operating such digital modes is desired? |
I have my 7000 tucked away in my RV. With the rig is a ZLP mini digital interface with built in sound card and a 2 port mini usb hub connected to the ZLP and 7000 C-IV leads. This combines the Data, PTT and CAT ports into a single long USB cable to a USB socket in the cab. Of course that cable is heavily screened with lots of ferrites but works well. Maybe you could do something similar?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThat might work. Which ZLP are you using and what software programs?I¡¯m mostly interested in WSJT and VARA HF for WinLink 73 Gary, K2GW? On Aug 25, 2022, at 11:57 AM, Paul G8NRY <info@...> wrote:

A friend gave me a SIgnaLink USB.? Talking to the very nice and knowledgeable lady at SIgnaLink?she indicated that people have done the various soundcard modes including Vara FM Narrow through the Icom 7000 control head when the main body of the radio and the data port is inaccessible, as in my installation. The parts to use with the Signal Link and the IC700 are SLCABRJ4 for the cable between the SIgnaLink?and the control head mike jack, a simple stereo cord between the control head speaker jack and the Signal link and the SLMODR4I jumper plug board inside. You obviously have to plug or unplug the mike when switching to/from soundcard modes this way, but that's not a big deal for me. A RigBlaster Advantage would avoid that but it's bigger and not what I have. |
