IC-7000 Shuts Down When Keyed

Mike

Hello folks.? Looking to the braintrust for some input.? My 7000 shuts down when I key the mic.? Its installed in my pickup under backseat.? 10M is roof center 2/3s to the rear of truck roof.? 2M antenna is on lip mount on right side of hood close to front.

I know its not a low voltage issue.??I have it hooked directly to a fully charged LiFePO4 100ah battery (13.4v fully charged).? Voltage drop when keyed is less than a tenth of a volt.? The radio is grounded with a 12" 12awg wire directly to mounting bolt of seat belt (so excellent ground).

I thought an RFI issue, but even when RF Power is turned totally down(</=5w, it still shuts off.??

What am I missing???? Any help would be great appreciated.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Have you checked the fuses/fuse holders to make sure they have good contact?

Connect a dummy load. If the radio works fine then likley there's an issue with the antenna installation such as coax, connectors, etc.

I recently had this same issue. I checked all kinds of things but ultimately it was exactly what?John Denison?wrote. Pull the fuses out of the line, and either replace them or clean the contacts. This fixed my issue immediately and I’m almost willing to be the cost of two new fuses its your issue too.

Well folks...I fixed the issue!!!? Eight wraps of the coax thru an FT240-43 ferrite toroid at the radio did the trick!!!? I'm stoked that it worked.??

Apparently the 7000 is very sensitive to RF on the shield.? I'd put my FT857d in the exact same setup, and had no issues whatsoever.? Put the 7000 back in...shut down every time.

Thanks for all's input.? Really appreciate it.

Mike
