Re: Overheating during a contest
开云体育My 7000 has always tended to run hot but I built up a pair of 12v fans with a standalone bracket to maintain a decent supply of cooling air.?
Have always used this and have never had the driver issue in the finals even with a heavy duty cycle on FT8. Rig is only used as a driver for a 23cm transverter these days so only runs less than 2watts on two metres.?
Cheers Dale Barnes VK7DG?

My IC7000 has ran hot since new, and I never really worried about it. ( on most days all day). Then I read about a fan mod where a simple mod would allow fan to run continuously.
I did the mod and it runs very cool now all day. Admittedly, I spend a lot of time receiving with very little transmitting each day.
I believe the cooler running is probably better for the radio.
There are a couple of different fan mods on the internet, so have a look at them and decide which is best for you.
Hope this helps.

Overheating during a contest
This fall, I was participating in the WA QSO party (Salmon Run) on CW. The 2nd day, 4 hr before time was up, I was running (as opposed to search and pounce) on 15 and 10M. The 7000 was at full power, WinKeyer USB/N1MM, an end fed HW with SWR indicating less than 1.5. I was making a fair number of contacts when I saw my output drop and saw the temp icon showing in the red. I had been operating fast and furious since the morning - I would guess 10 hours. Ambient temps in the 70s.? No problem on day one but it was 50% CW and 50% SSB.? Since I've bought this rig in 2007, it has never had this overheating problem. I remember on this group (Yahoo group days) there was a lot of discussion about overheating 7000s but mine never did that - that is, until this contest. The next day, the rig operated just fine - nothing permanent happened.? Over the years, I've had this 7000 on two DXpeditions, many hours mobile, many hours portable with no problems. Has it become elderly and finicky about duty cycle? Like me?
?
My question is: Is there a slick way to ventilate an IC-7000 to slow the temperature rise?
?
My "nuclear option" is to sell it and buy a 100W amp for my IC-705. Sort of like selling a racehorse.?
?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: IC-7000 corrupted eeprom
Hi Tony
?Prior to plugging my logic board ( the small board in a metal cage that plugs into the main board ) into the Japanese radio it had general coverage RX and 6m band present.
My radio also has the MARS mod enabled.
On the Japanese radio - also has MARS MOD done prior to purchase and it did not have 6m or general coverage.
All I did was to plug my logic board into the Japan radio and it behaved the same as the Japanese logic board did - no 6m and general coverage.
When i returned my logic board to my 7000 the radio lost general coverage and 6m band and now is identical to the Japanese version.
I suspect the eeprom because i took a screen shot of the main tuning page which displays version information before and after which clearly shows some data missing.
See photos attached, before and after.
As you can see under the adjust it now is missing 602FDF0 - not sure what this means - the Japanese radio also is missing this.
I cant find this string anywhere in the eeprom and because i didn't take a copy before hand i don't know if this string has anything to do with what occurred or where is resides - eeprom or the renesas HD64F2377.
I can see all other data from the tuning pages in the eeprom including firmware version data.
regards
James

Re: IC-7000 corrupted eeprom
(2020) Japanese bandplan includes 6m.
Not sure if you have put one of your 7000 boards inside a Japanese 7000 permanently but there is a diode matrix in the 7000 just like most modern transceivers so you might want to check which diodes are there and which are not.
People tend to generalise calling boards 'the logic board' so I'm not really sure what you changed.
?
I bought a new 7300 from Japan recently and the only gaps in coverage compared to UK bands were in the 80m and 40m bands. All the rest were the same including full 6m to 54Mhz. It was easy to change diodes on the matrix to bring it to UK spec.
I don't think I would jump to suspecting something became corrupted and would check the matrix and connections first.

Re: IC-7000 corrupted eeprom
Hi Mark
No it didn't have those features.
If anyone has a faulty logic board that is not from a Japanese radio I may be able to read the contents of the eeprom to make a comparison .
There are 256kb of memory in the eeprom and without knowing what location does what it is hard to work out.
I can see where the tuning parameter settings for the radio are kept and they have not changed .
The chip is also used to store memory channels and I can see that information as well.

Hope all are having a good xmas and wish all the best for 2025.
Just reaching out to anyone in the group that has taken a download of their eeprom.
I have a feeling my one is corrupt after i plugged my logic board into a japanese version radio and now my 6m band is missing and don't get general coverage receive.
This is the same logic board that has an audio issue from another post? ( still waiting on some parts to arrive )
I should have taken a download before the operation.
If anyone has a ICSP programmer like my ASIX Forte then downloading the contents is fairly straight forward.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: PTT switch source ?
The Icom HM-151, HM-133 and HM-207 microphones have the same hardware and transmit the same keycodes. Only the silicone rubber key legend membranes differ.? There are inexpensive Chinese clones of the HM-133 available on Amazon, ebay and AliExpress.? So, if your expensive HM-151 or HM-207 microphone fails, buy the cheap HM-133 clone and swap the key legend membranes.?? |
Re: PTT switch source ?
Just curious, did Icom have them? Bob W4JFA On Mon, Dec 9, 2024 at 12:05?PM Steve G4ALG via <steve=alg.myzen.co.uk@groups.io> wrote:

Re: PTT switch source ?
Now that I've had my IC-7000 for about six weeks; and repaired a fault in the pre-driver stage; and had several fine QSOs with this wonderful box of magic, I thought it was time to plug in the microphone and try it out.
It was immediately apparent that the PTT switch (with the red button) was operating intermittently.? This was confirmed by direct testing of the switch using a multi-meter. At the time, I hadn't seen this Topic.? So I was very pleased, and a bit surprised, to find replacement switches on eBay.? Indeed, I found several suppliers of suitable switches.? ?This is not a recommendation, but I bought ten of the 6 x 6 x 5 mm right angle PCB switches advertised at: ?
I have no idea whether these switches are 'sealed' types.? ?But, for under ?5 for ten switches, this seemed like a very good deal, providing loads of spares for the future!? The first switch I tested worked fine, with a nice positive action.? So I soldered it in place. Job done! |
Re: Audio
I believe that the switch on the back of the head (or where ever it lives) changes the output level between speaker and headphone level and does not switch the speaker in and out. It may mute the speaker when there is something plugged in, I think.
There may be another headphone level out provided in the RJ-45 8 pin jack for the mike like Icom had on the IC-7100. Memory fails at this time, however. |
Re: Audio
开云体育Yes there is a switch on the back of the head. I have not had to use it either. I am sure the manual covers its use.Cheers Neil On 8 Dec 2024, at 11:57?AM, Rick Robinson via groups.io <rickw8zt@...> wrote:

Isn’t there one on the backside of the detachable head. The manual describes its operation Haven't fooled with mine in quite a while. It’s worth checking out. The 706 had something similar. On Sat, Dec 7, 2024 at 12:10?AM Edward Luers via <eluers2=gmail.com@groups.io> wrote:
