Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
James, Keep up the good work. Keep us posted. We all appreciate your information. Bob W4JFA On Thu, Oct 31, 2024 at 5:52?AM James Tiberius via <nono2212000=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
Hi Geoff
looks like dds 2nd osc is ok at 124.032 and 1st local osc varies with tuning knob so looks like front end might be ok and the dsp board may be the culprit.
i need to confirm signal present at dds input. the dds board takes care of the signal strength display and also passes audio to the audio amplifier.
I haven't checked TX yet but will hopefully get around to that soon

Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
Hi James,
?
If you confirm the audio amp is ok then you need to look further back. At least now you know that if you fix an upstream fault you should hear something.
?
The fact that you acquired this 7000 recently and it has never worked from when you got it, you can't rule out that someone before you has had a go at fixing it. It's worth seeing if the synthesiser is working.
?
I recall you saying that you saw no S meter bar graph on the display when you turned the rf attenuator/mute throughout its entire range. I would now look at the DDS adjustment procedure that appears in the 7000 Service Manual and see if the reference freq is correct at 124.032000Mhz. If not follow the procedure carefully and you should be able to get it within a few Hz of the correct value.

Hi all
I recently acquired a second hand 7000 with what looks like a fault.
It powers on and all front panel controls seem to be ok but when i apply a signal on any band there is no rx indication and no sound from speaker even when squelch is off.
Any advice would be much appreiated

Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
Late to reading this thread, but have you tried a full reset to see if that makes a difference?
Other than that it may be time to troubleshoot the radio.
Does it transmit on any mode into a dummy load?
If so that would indicate that the RF section is "mostly" working as it is shared between the RX and TX.
Then look at the signals along the receive chain with a 'scope.
Sometimes it just takes having the right equipment and techniques. |

Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
You need to check transmit. You said you had no mic so put the radio on CW, turn on break in, insert a plug into the key jack. With dummy load, do u get a carrier? This will narrow it down to TX and/or RX. Bob W4JFA? On Wed, Oct 30, 2024, 5:44 AM James Tiberius via <nono2212000=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: IC-7000 no rx and no sound out from speaker
James, I'm not a fan of the shot gun approach to fault finding. Start from a known point of trouble, in this case it's the audio output. Using the circuit schematic it would be my suggestion to start by checking the voltage rails on the active devices at that point working back "upstream". If you have a audio generator of any type, use a 0.1uf? to feed a signal into the inputs of the devices as you go back.
