Re: [IC-7000] Power Bar reading.
开云体育The power out reads in percent of maximize power for whatever band you tune to; ie 100% on 73 cm should be 35 watts.?On 2m 100% would be 50 watts.? On HF 100% would be 100 watts.? ? ? ? The exception would if there is an antenna inballance or low voltage. You need 14+volts for the highest output. The ALC has nothing to do with power output unless you over drive the radio in AM or SSB. Then the ALC will limit PO to prevent damage to the radio.? You might want to make sure you looking at the PO indicator and not ALC red bar that goes about half way across the screen in FM mode and is just under the PO indicator.? -------- Original message -------- From: Alex Netherton <anetherton@...> Date: 12/23/2013 10:58 AM (GMT-08:00) To: ic7000@... On FM, the ALC indicator doesn't follow voice peaks, since FM is a constant carrier mode. ?Ignore ALC in FM, AM, CW, etc. ?It will vary depending on which band is used, what the DC supply voltage is and what the TX PO setting is, but doesn't have the same meaning and use as in SSB mode.? Hi does the radio work are you able to communicate if so it is fine the difference the extra power will make is best improved with a better antenna. all this about what power you are outputing is only right if you use professional test equipment to measure it. ?then it needs to have been recently calibrated. ?some of us have this pieces of equipment and some have older but not calibrated ones. so we have a guess at it being about right. the power led display on most amateur radios is just a guess at best. after all this is budget equipment with a price tag which is a very small amount given the frequency range these things work over. so if you think it is going to accurate brother your on a hiding to nowhere. ?it is just an indication that it is working at best. ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Best regards Robert G6LLP P.s. by the way if you fiddle in the radio you can make it read what ever you like. From: Alex Netherton To: ic7000@... Hi guys this is Amateur radio equipment not professional what do you expect. made for a price it is never going to perform as well. it does not always do exactly what it should due usually to certain factors. like not enough current at the source voltage as issues like overshoot of current when it states 22amps at 13.8 volts dc that is a mean average. at the point of keying up on Fm the current required is more like 27 amps. yes it has an over shoot so using a 25 amp power supply it will not deliver enough current. these little differences add to lots of issues. so the power meter reading also is just a rough guide it is never going to be accurate. not with the best equipment let alone with Amateur radio equipment. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? Since I have about 200 HF entries to make I'm using Band A and Band B for HF. They also have the band edges entered in a bank of entries. I doubt that I will fill the memories completely, but I am going to fill it in some logical order. ? Technically, I don't think it makes any difference how you use the "Band" in the programming of the radio. I think that is just what the programmer named those worksheets in the spreadsheet.

Rick, You may be talking too far away from the mike. According to an excellent article by Steve Katz, you need to close talk the mike (He suggests being practically making contact with your lips). Check your compression setting too. I am enclosing Steve's article about mic gain. The other thing that I have found affecting ALC settings is whether the radio is tuned to frequency. This article should help explain mic gain and you will find Steve's article linked in here as well. bb KC1AKV On Monday, December 23, 2013 11:23 AM, Bob Brooks wrote:
