Re: Dim display or white light break through
9h1kr
Hi Andrew, I came across a Ic-7300 at a very good price and kept on working like nothing happened, came by at the right time too.? I'm think about sourcing the pa's first for the ic-7000, otherwise the vhf/uhf bands work fine, and as for hf reception comparison with the 7300 I find it better for filtering out weak signals imho! 73 de 9H1KR

IC7000 no HF Transmit
I purchased an IC7000 with the condition that will not transmit on all HF bands. ?VHF/UHF transmit at the designed power out in all modes. ?Receiver works excellent in all bands all modes. ?Since VHF/UHF transmit proves that the Driver circuit works I have focused on the HF circuit. ?With a scope, I see hf signal through the driver and through the power transistors Q301 and Q302. ?The bias current is set properly. ?All board traces seem to be in-tack and pass the signal through to the ANT1 connector when terminated with a dummy load, but the signal barely registers on the external power meter when the power control is set to 100%.
Any help for further troubleshooting will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Dim display or white light break through
Hi,
?
I have had two units with a dim display and one where the there is white light break through on the right hand edge, is? a replacment display the cure? what else could cause this?
?
what does the -15V do and the +12 V do from the BUK converter, PS I have had a few 100?H inductors die (in the Buk inverter) , but this will effect switch on.

Re: No power up
Hi I fixed over 5 units with this exact same fault, if the relay still clicks this is a good sign, the R2011 4R7 is a 1 Watt device 2512 SM resistor, it is a shame it is on the under side of the baord. The only advice I can give is to be very carefull with the ribbon cables, if you pull them off the the PA board, then you have to strip the whole radio down, to reattach, which means desoldering the RF driver board and aeril sockets.

Re: 2 meter sideband audio
Most modern radios frequency error increases (multiplies) with
operating frequency.? So a 10Hz error at 14mhz is likely to be
not noticed at 50mhz its about 25hz at at 144? near 100hz.
?
The dial is the "programmed frequency" to the internal logic and
microprocessor and with errors the actual output frequency will
be off.? The output frequency contains error based on the
system clock (timebase).?

Re: 2 meter sideband audio
Several things...
?
For SSB 10hz is fine enough but at 100HZ not at all good.
I've used manpacks and older radios and 100hz does not cut it
unless both radios (both yours and the otherguys) reference
osc are spot on.? Usual case is they will not be.
?
The IC7000 will do 10hz tuning very nicely.? Its my primary
432mhz SSB radio and backup for all other bands.? I also
have for? 2m use a TT M526 (6M and 2M) and IC 251A
(2m only).?
?
?NOTE:? 2M SSB IS NOT CHANNELIZED.? The display on
most radios may say 144.2000 but I'll bet money they
are?actually not on frequency.? ?The fix is tune the
other guy in.? That's what the big knob is for.
?
Add the the above list a FT817 (with tcxo) and I reset
them or check them at least once a year and usually
I need to touch them to make sure they are within
20hz at 144mhz.
?
?
The indicated DIAL FREQUENCY IS NEVER the output
(or input) frequency unless the radio has a recently
calibrated TCXO.? Usual radio to radio variation? on
the band is 100HZ wither way (low or high) or more
by experience.
?
IC7000 dial? accuracy is only ok but its stability is good.
There is a menu option for correction but you need a
reference source (wwV at 10 or 20mhz) to set it correctly.
By correctly I mean to less than .1hz error.

Re: 2 meter sideband audio
You need to put the RF tuning step at, or below, 100 Hz.? That will give you finer control of the "too-high / too-low" sound. I'm not sure how frequency-stable the IC-7000 is, but you shouldn't have any trouble in the 2m band.? On Sat, Jan 11, 2025 at 4:18?PM John Denison via <kd5you=[email protected]> wrote:

2 meter sideband audio
Today we set up a portable station with a 2 meter Diamond horizontal Yagi, and we made one contact with another station on 144.200. While both of us were on 144.200 USB, the other station's audio sounded slow and low pitched. We tried adjusting the frequency to see if we could get it centered and sound right like on HF, but there was no frequency that sound right... only low pitched or high pitched.
?
Is there an issue with IC-7000 2 meter SSB mode or is there something else I should try to adjust to fix the audio.
?
Thanks

Re: Overheating - urban legend
Thanks for the data.My thermal camera contradicts what it says... ? We'll talk about it in 10 years' time. My IC7000 will probably still be alive. Me, on the other hand... The radiators I saw on the sides of the IC7000 will be in my youtube video on the subject, as it's a very amusing way of cooling the IC7000 very efficiently. I'm a tease, I know... 73's de Ludovic - F5PBG |

Re: Overheating - urban legend
Allison and all, I've been wondering if the thermistor can be moved to make contact with either the heat sink or one of the final transistors thinking it would get hotter sooner and turn the fan on sooner? I only worked on a friend's radio a few months ago and I can't remember the locations. I do have a downloaded service manual but I cannot find where it shows the thermistor location, if it does. I did find D2401, DAN202K that may be the thermistor but what I have I cannot confirm. I appreciate your help Allison. I would like to get my friends radio to run cooler before summer when he uses it portable to do POTA. Any other hints would sure be?appreciated. Re: Overheating - urban legend
Excellent work, Allison. ?Thank you for sharing.
I’m much happier with things since doing one of the published fan control mods (so that fan is enabled at a lower temperature). ? ?
?
Personally, I didn’t feel the need to alter the position of the thermistor, or thermally bond it to the heat sink (as described in the fan control modification). ?Time will tell :-)
