Re: Compatible Tuner with IC 7000

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I run a 7000 with the AH4 tuner and 102¡± whip(mobile). It works wonderfully and I¡¯ve been running this for near 5 yrs now. Of course mobile doesn¡¯t quite compare with a good 100 watt base and an antenna with gain but my combo can sure hold its own. Prior to the 7000 I ran the same with a 706MKIIG. Again a good combo.

? Anyone have experience with either of these setups?
I have been told that the MFJ controller for the ATAS needs a modification to be compatible with the 7000, and once done it does not show the SWR meter during tuning.
I'm thinking maybe using the MFJ control to key the radio after switching to CW so I can tune via the SWR meter. All of this fooling around to tune basically just puts me back to the system i used before.
?? Possibly an Icom tuner at the base of the antenna with a reasonably sized whip may be so much easier.
?? Any Thoughts?

Loosing First LO when Changing Frequency

Edited

Hi, I'm having an odd issue with my IC-7000.? It has an odd behavior that it will loose RX and TX when changing the frequency. Power cycling the radio allows it to come back but moving the dial will make it go deaf again.? I was able to verify that the 1st LO goes away when this error happens.? The 2nd and 3rd LO are still outputting fine.? I probed all the inputs of the 1st DDS, 1DST/PCK/PDT/PRES/1CN0/1CN1, but am unsure what a correct input looks like. I am able to verify there is a signal going into DDS FI201 but not DDS D301 when it is in the error state.? I have not pulled the metal shielding off to access IC301 directly yet.? I did noticed grounding PRES while spinning the dial will reset IC301 and the 1st LO will come back to allow RX for a brief moment.

I have changed out all the ribbon cables and traced the signals as close to DDS IC301 as I can.? I have noticed that PRES and 1CN0 are always set high. DST, PCK, PDT, and 1CN1 will pulse when I spin the dial.? Does anyone know the behavior of these inputs? Is there anything else I can try?

HM-151 mic cord

My IC-7000 mike cord has developed an intermittent.? I see plenty on the e place for $8.99.? Is there one supplier I should prefer or any I should avoid?? A better place to buy one?

Thanks and Happy New Year.

Be very careful with the ribbon cables?
since the 7k has been around for so long the plastic ribbon cables are usually very brittle.

Re: When in service mode cannot do any adjustments

Forgot to add get power at the J101 and then also low at the driver and the finals . But it as low as if not txing

Re: When in service mode cannot do any adjustments

Reception is fine but only transmits about 3 watts on uhf nothing on 2 meters and nothing on hf. the two predrivers havebeen replaced the main driver has been replaced and all the other drivers still the same...pre drivers and all the finals where replaced

Re: MP853

thank you Steve that looks correct. i have found the solder broken in the pic i sent. ok thats not the problem. I have tested the rig and fond no out on the CP951 .and fond the small solder connection.Know i wonder what could be the problm.....Reception is fine but only transmits about 3 watts on uhf nothing on 2 meters and nothing on hf. the two predrivers havebeen replaced the main driver has been replaced and all the other drivers still the same....

Erratic output resolved

I recently acquired an IC-7000. Had several Icom units before, never 7k, but I am excited by the ¡°ahead-of-its- time¡± features.
After initial set up the output became erratic - screen fuzzes over on 2M transmit; must turn radio off/on to re-set power; and; very inconsistent tune-up with power on hf bands. ?
I read a lot of ¡°mail¡± about how the connectors - fuses, plugs, sockets sometimes presented a corrosive barrier ( resistance, bad connection) and that might likely be the problem.
After trying to think my way through this problem - with no success - I decided to take the advice of the mail. I cleaned and re-seated the in-line fuses - no change. ?But after more failure, I decided to spray the fuse holders, all the PL239 sockets and the mic input plugs and sockets.
That did it! ?

A simple spray with contact cleaner in some key points, and the radio tunes like a champ on all bands with full output.

So all the collective wisdom about cleaning contacts - all of them if you can - came true.
Never had this problem before with any radios, but first time for everything. And, I am grateful for the ¡°collective wisdom¡± and the very simple solution to a seemingly confusing issue.

Re: MP853

MP853 is a metal grounding earth spring that was added to the DDS board in 2006.? The picture you attached shows that the spring finger that is about 0.75" long had been broken off.? ?If you look in this group's Files section for?/g/ic7000/files/7K%20GROUNDING%20FINGERS%20.doc?there is a picture of what it should look like.

I could not find an icom part # for that spring.? It is different than the others used in the unit.? I doubt that it is critical, given the large ground plane in that area that is screwed to the metal chassis.

Re: MP853

I took a look in the service manual I got years ago and the only thing I can find is that there's a couple of pages of things that start with MP - in lists called Mechanical Parts, but this manual doesn't have an 853.? The highest it goes is MP851.

If you'll notice, there's no copper leading to or from the part in the picture, which implies it's not connected to anything electrically, so that goes with being a mechanical part.? More details, like what assembly that is or the parts around it to search for might help, but that's just guessing.?

The manual I have is dated 2005, so perhaps MP853 was added after this.?

That's not much, but it's the best I can do.

Could someone shed some light What is MP853 it is shown only in thesevice manual bud no indication what it does or its use?

using the same paddle with a Icom 7300, I will often get an R.?
Possibilities include paddle "bounce" where the dah side is getting "vibrated" from the dit actuation, or maybe RFI into the keyer causing it to go wonky.

Re: R's instead of I's

Hi Michael,

I admit I'm ignorant. I don't own a Morserino and don't even know what that is, but the artificial intelligence between my ears thinks this sounds like a mode A vs B problem.

Just a guess.

Subject: [ic7000] R's instead of I's

I was wondering if anybody else is having this issue.? When I practice with the Morserino I have no problem sending an I, but using the same paddle with a Icom 7300, I will often get an R.? I have tried to increase the pressure required for the dit, but that doesn't seem to help.??
?
I don't see any setting in the Icom that I could change that would help with my errors.
?
I played around with the Latency settings in the Morserino with no effect.??
?
I also use a WKmini, so there may be a setting there that would help.
?
Any help is appreciated.

Hello group,

? I was driving down the road listening to 40 meters? when I seen and smelled smoke. When I got home I pulled the rig body that was mounted under the passengers seat and noticed the smell was coming from the rig body.

? ?I suspected the dreaded driver board went. Is this worth fixing? I do have the technical ability to do surface mount repair. What will this cost? Will it happen again?

? ?If I choose not to fix it, what is the radio worth with separation kit?
