Re: Overheating during a contest

This heat question has been batted around on this list for some time.? One side says that the ICOM engineers provided for proper heat distribution, others say that the rig needs additional ways of addressing the heat problem during extended use.? I personally think that it does.

?

I really like this TO-3 idea.? What I did was place the IC-7000 in a go-box and placed a muffin fan behind it to blow air over the heat sink in the back. Cheap fix.? There must also be heat transfer as I am using the mounting bracket, and it is fastened to a metal shelf.

?

Again, great idea on the TO-3’s!

I've added two TO-3 heat sinks to the left side of my IC 7000 to keep the DSP section much cooler.

You could do the same on the right side to help keep the PAs cool.

I had to file the TO-3 holes a little? to match the hole spacing on the rig.
