Hammond CV chop for sale

Edited

I'm selling a 1945 CV chop, modeled after the Bill Beer chop.? The preamp has been rebuilt, although I believe it needs new tubes.? I'm currently using an Art Studio V3 tube preamp (the chop has a 1/4" output).? I also have a Motion Sound Pro145, replaced the original 12" speaker with a speaker more suitable for bass, which I'm considering selling as a package.? Photos attached, as well as a link to a recording on Youtube ?
I'm located in central PA (Danville,? PA). Weighs about 200 lb.? The cable for the pedals can be stored in the box which has the expression pedal and rheostat box attached.? I also have the vibrato/chorus array box, which I did not include in the chop, although it probably could be mounted inside to the top of the cabinet.? There is a keyboard cover that attaches to fixtures on the front top (see pictures) and secured by clips on the front of the case, below the lower manual.? Any reasonable offer will be considered.?

Vintage Tube Sockets, Switches, Fuse Holders Available

Robin Midgett

I have a couple of panels from the electric utility industry that contain several (4 per panel) 8 pin & 4 pin (4 per panel) tube sockets in addition to toggle switches, rotary switches (single pole 4 position, 3 per panel, no idea on ratings), fuse holders, etc. The sockets are riveted to the panel but I can remove them without damage to the sockets. I thought I'd offer these here before tossing them into the recycling bin.?
Any interest?

Re: B3 percussion doesn't decay

Sound to me like the process has disturbed things inside the upper manual or Perc switch assembly. My bet is there’s now a partial short in the manual, so to check I’d desolder the white wire from the lower left lug at the resistor panel attached to the rear of the upper manual. Then measure resistance from that lug to ground. If it’s not very very high then zap the lug.

The unit also has a Trek reverb bolted to the inside top of the cabinet on the start/run switch end.? Lifting the manuals could cause a few upper drawbars to contact the reverb, but there is no damage there or anything bent.

It does require unbolting the large hex head bolts that hold the manual assembly in place, and then lifting it to unbolt the cheek block and then replace it.? Both manuals need to be tilted up at various points in the install to either install of the ZD-1 or route the cable from it to the AO-28.? I took some care in the process but at one point or another probably jarred the manual assembly a bit lifting and positioning it.
?
The unit also has a Trek reverb bolted to the inside top of the cabinet on the start/run switch end.? Lifting the manuals could cause a few upper drawbars to contact the reverb, but there is no damage there or anything bent.
?
Before I go further per the Dairiki instructions, any suggestions from the collected wisdom here?
?
Thanks,
Dave

Looks like it hasn't been oiled since 1993! (Which reminds me, I have to oil my B-3 for 2025.)
Also appears to come with a PR-40, no Leslie.
Wish I could sell mine for $3k :-(.

I know it’s in Coopersburg. ?That’s 2.5 hours away; 5 hour round trip. That’s a lot of lost opportunity cost.Friends have other commitments. At least the ones that are not likely to have a heart attack from this have commitments. I found a friend that would lend me a truck. I can rent the dolly. ?Among the things I can’t do right now is go to Home Depot hire person to help me load it. I thought about picking it up and driving it right to a music store and selling it. But I couldn’t even identify a music store that was a good candidate. ?Overall, there were too many obstacles. That’s why I posted it to this group. Someone will either buy it and give it a good home or make a good profit off of it. Either way I’m fine with that.

Right now on CTbids.com there is a Hammond B-3 for sale. ?Owner says it's working condition. I am high bidder at $1. I think I my high bid is $50. ?I can't pick up the organ. I don't really have space for it if I did. I hope one of you guys can get it.?

Re: Hello to everyone old and new.

Hello everyone,
?
It's been quite some time since I've posted. Chris: Congrats on your retirement; nice to hear you're still active here.
?
I'm enjoying this lively discussion. I've repaired, rebuilt and modded my 145 (not to mention refinishing...oops, I guess just did :) over that last several decades but I've always tried to maintain the factory polarity of the drivers (I'm on the 2nd set of replacement drivers right now).?
?
My suggestion is: Why not install a polarity switch on one of the drivers to do some actual "A - B" listening tests? I'd like to hear what results you find. If you all keep this thread going long enough, I might even install this mod on my old 145 to listen for myself. If I do, I'll let you all know!
?
Cheers,
Rock?

Uwe,

I think the situations with a normal Hifi-Stereo speaker box and ?a Leslie speaker are different. With a stereo box all speakers are coplanar, while in a Leslie TC the situation is totally undefined. The treble horn and the drum are in an indefinite position against each other and thus the phasing between the signals is undetermined. It can take any value. So it doesn't matter whether it leaves the e.g. horn in one or the other phasing. ?But you cannot determine whether e.g. a frequency of 1000 Hz (wavelength 34cm) springing off the horn reaches the observers ear in a phase relation to the (attenuated by about 5dB in the 1000 Hz case) of this or that degree.?

I doubt you can hear any difference when confronted with a Leslie with flipped treble driver leads one with "in phase" wiring.

Correct. It also applies to a single two (or more) way HiFi speaker. If one of the drivers isn't connected properly, i. e. in phase, one will observe a nasty notch in the xover region, acoustically and by (SPL) measurement. An incorrect, out of phase connnection more or less cancels frequencies next to the xover frequency. Test it, it's reproducible, but not irreparable ;-).

Re: T500 Leslie (Tremolo) Slow/Fast switch loud bang on switching

Well, Chris, there might be more versions that the one I've got handy. There've been also versions with electronically generated rotational fields, just like in BLDC motors.
?
Admittedly, my original SM covers the T-100, T-200 and XTC series, and I was thinking there coudn't be big differences to the T-500.
?
Best regards!
