Aeolian-Hammond music roll re-cutting project
How many of you know about the approx. 350 Hammond organs made in
1938 that had roll playing mechanisms installed? A gentleman in Annapolis Maryland (who has lots of experience in re-cutting projects for rare music rolls) is starting a subscription project for rolls for these machines. Following is a notice which he posted in which I thought members here would be interested. If so, please contact him directly at rhack@e... -JRG Notice to all Aeolian Hammond owners: I have (finally!) come up with a proposal to recut the Hammond BA (Aeolian Hammond) rolls. The timing is now right to do this project; Playrite has finished our last project of 200 Duo-Art rolls (also 12/inch) and now the perforator is available to do the Hammond rolls. There will be two sets available. The first set is 35 rolls, and represents a good mix of the better music at a reasonable price of $1085 ($31/roll) for the complete set. The second set of 55 rolls, in addition, will really make a nice library of great music for those that want a large variety of music. This set will be $1705 (also $31/roll). You may order either set, or both. The rolls will be cut on high quality paper, better than the original paper, and include quality boxes with labels. The rolls will have labels, but will not have expression or stop information printed on the rolls. For those that do not know me, references are available. I have been doing roll projects for about 15 years, and have handled the recutting of over 10,000 rolls for 7 different machines. Set #1 - 35 rolls @ $1085: 237 1812 Overture 485 Aida Grand March 884 American Fantasie 280 Barber of Seville Overture 824 Begin the Beguine 109 Blue Danube Waltz 498 Carmen Fantasie Part 1 836 Carmen Fantasie Part 2 388 Christmas Carols #1 448 Christmas Carols #3 845 Deep Purple 284 Faust Ballet Music 896 God Bless America 214 Hansel and Gretal - Humperdink 470 In the Still of the Night 413 Indian Love Call 48 Kamennoi-Ostrow 59 Madam Butterfly - One Fine Day 484 Magic Flute Overture 803 Merry Widow 852 New Moon Selections 2 Pilgrims Chorus 299 Pomp and Circumstance 114 Prelude in C Sharp Minor 417 Red Mill Selections 815 Rhapsody in Blue Pt. 1 816 Rhapsody in Blue Pt. 2 181 Ride of the Valkyries 173 Siegfried's Funeral March 821 Saint Louis Blues 818 Stephen Foster Medley #1 232 Toccata and Fugue in D Minor 334 Valse Des Fleurs 53 William Tell Overture 1000 Test Roll Notes and Speed Set #2 - 55 rolls @ $1705: 418 Ah! We also reserve the right to substitute music if we determine that the arrangement on the original roll is not good. Terms are 1/2 of the set cost when reserving your set(s). The balance and shipping (at $1.50/roll) will be due when the paper, boxes, flanges, and cores arrive. We anticipate that rolls will start shipping in several months. crackling C3
开云体育forward mail from Peter

Dear Group Members!
?
Today I have to ask for your help. All of a sudden we
experienced a crackling noise in our C3. It?s not constant but comes up every
few minutes. ? It sounds like the noise a bad tube makes.? So I
exchanged all the tubes except the rectifier that I did not have. Still
crackling. ?The noise is faded when the volume pedal is faded.? It is
not in the leslie 147 and not in the (solid state combo) preamp.? Now it
must be something in the C3?s preamp.
I could?imagine it?s a capacitor in the signal path. I?m
not into electronics, but I?can change single components and did that
before on tube amps.? This time I?m really worried as we use the C3
constantly in the studio and it makes us sick when the organ is
ill......
So if anybody has experienced something similar and might give
us a hint - that would be great.??I have a schematic?of the circuit.?
?
Thank you,
?

Re: [hammond_zone] further elements
Gren
开云体育I agree it is designed for input but if you wish to
feed the output from a hammond to another amp (NOT A Leslie) I think it will
work. It also gives controled output too (ie. the swell pedal works). Its been a
while since I've used mine with a seperate amp but I'm sure I did it that
way..

开云体育I was under the impression (I may be wrong) that
you can 'output' from the pre-amp input .. I've used it before and it worked for
me and my 'M'.

further elements
Marc Saint-Félix
开云体育Hey guys,
thanx for helping me out. I did several tests with
both chorus/vibrato set at on/off, same?thing?with percussion, it
ain't doin' it !!? Here are a few elements to explain my situation a little
further. I bought the B3 and the 122 from a
studio in Toronto Canada, and the organ sustained some modifications :
-Leslie switch installed next to the lower
keyboard.
-The output section is said to be modified for
recording.
The latter point is weired to me : the only
physical modification I can see is a female XLR plug attached to the rear panel.
When I open that panel, I can see a cord linked to the XLR plug that's about
40cm long. At the other end of the cord is a male RCA plug.
I assume it's made to be plugged in the "Phono
Input" of the organ's preamp. So, why is the studio talking about "output"
?
I once tried to link my Hammond XB-1 to the RCA
plug, but I blew the fuses of the B3. That was obviously not the thing to
do.
?
I totally agree with you David, I should try
another speaker but I don't know what to do. I've heard one time that the "Input
Phono" was made to connect to a Leslie 147, is that true?
?
In my very small opinion, the problem comes from
the Leslie, when one of the tubes gets hot, I have distorsion and no power
anymore. What do you guys think?
?
Cheers,
?

I had a similar problem a few years back with my C3/145. It only occred with the vibrato/chorus switched on. Tapping the can cap on the C3 preamp, caused the fault to come and go. I substituted some new electrolytic caps to take place of the ones inside the can caps and the problem has never come back. Are you sure the problem isn't in the leslie? Why not fix a line out for some headphones/another amp. The schematics fro that are published on several web sites (but I've forgotten which ones!!!) -- David Bentley |

开云体育Grief you mentioned a Mellotron .. I played one
yonks ago at the Dunlop Club (yes the tyres maker) way back when they first came
out. Full of tapes and a keyboard like wet sponge. Boy when it went wrong it was
a right mess .. Best of luck if you buy one of those !! Of course I don't know
if they improved on them but I sure hope they did.
