Heavy WX off Morocco
2024 voyage update 2(fri ) I managed to work Tony today on 24.961 usb but very short qso --4/5 at first then deep qsb and into the noise- stormy wx but he sounded cheerful! de lawrie g4faa Begin forwarded message: From: TONY CADNEY <tony.cadney@...> Date: 9 February 2024 at 10:47:04 GMT To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Subject: Heavy WX off Morocco ? Good morning Gang! After a very smooth trip so far, today we have very heavy WX with a near storm force wind (55knts+) directly on the bow of the ship with 6 to 7mtr swell on our stern quarter from the NW and we are rolling well. At present we are 50miles off the coast of Morocco making 10knts on a bearing of 213degrees on way to Agadir For safety reasons all on the deck furniture has been tied down or removed. Fortunately only our operating table and two chairs remain in situ in a sheltered area in the stairwell of deck 10. However due to nearly 60mph winds across the deck we will not be able access our antenna on deck 12 to change bands until tomorrow. So for today we will be stuck on 12mtrs............For Mark (G0GQT)'s information we will be working15mtrs as soon as this storm abates. Sending CW on my straight key will be fun today as the ship shudders violently as trapped air pockets pass under the hull........ Catch you the wireless!. 73 de Tony es Suzanne

Whatho Gang! The good news is that we are now on the wireless, after a few 'perceived problems' with resonating the antenna, all of which were due to not by-passing the auto-ATU in the KX3.........Whoops!. The most productive band so far has been 12m. We have worked all over Europe including G and into the USA both in CW & SSB. We are in Cadiz tomorrow and will be off cycling in the morning during the afternoon from about1400hrs (GMT) we should be on 12m look for us around 24.906 +/- or 24.960+/-. we are now an hour ahead of GMT so we will go QRT around 1700 hrs GMT 73 fer nw de Tony es Suzanne

Sorry you missed it!
Hello fellow Cliftonaires, Just to let you know the Clifton pre-Christmas seasonal net was held at 1400GMT today (17/12) on 7.195Mhz. This frequency was suggested by Lawrie (G4FAA) which turned out to be ideal for inter-G. Such that Steve M0BPQ came straight back to my first tentative call at 13.55hrs……..Conditions were such that the band was generally noise free and the reports were 59+ both ways…………..Due to technical issues at home Steve had made the journey to Gilwell Park to operate in an unheated scout hut. Needless to say we had quite a deal of catching up to do since our last QSO when I was /MM. We kept frequency warm for just under an hour, awaiting the arrival of other Clifton members, unfortunately this was not to be. Before the net I received a phone-call from John Lambert (G3FNZ) giving his apologies for not being able to join the net. However, he did ask that I pass on his best wishes for the Christmas and the New Year to all those present. Many thanks John.! Have a great Christmas and happy New Year! Catch you on the wireless in 2024! 73 es 88s de Tony es Suzanne.

Merry Christmas and HNY
Whatho fellow Cliftonaires! Having read a recent post by Lawrie (G4FAA) regarding a ‘Festive net’ over the Christmas period. I thought I would send my ‘apologies’ as however much Suzanne and I would like to join in the merry throng. Both the memsahib and I will be somewhere off the coast of Scandinavia Due to the prevailing WX in that part of world we will not be taking our radio-kit as it is far too cold to operate outside on the open deck…….Ice boots and crampons will be the order of the day Hi! We have another nautical adventure on the horizon navigating in much warmer climes, when radio and bikes will be de-rigueur. Information will be circulated via our mailing list once we embark. May we wish you a very happy Christmas and a healthy, peaceful and prosperous New Year. 73 es 88s de Tony es Suzanne

Date: 20 October 2023 at 23:47:39 BST To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Subject: Last day of ops tomorrow ? Whatho gang! Today 20th October, we have been in port at Punta Delgada the Azores, unfortunately we have been plagued with fairly continuous rain driven by strong westerly breeze which prevented any radio ops from the open deck. However we did manage to get out on the bikes a rode a fairly moist 38miles. On our return to the ship we spent the rest of the afternoon packing the bikes into their hard shell transit cases. As I type we are now underway on a course of 51 degrees towards the UK. The ship is rolling well again as we have strong winds across the deck. The forecast is for the wind to swing into the SW and therefore it will be on our stern and if the rain ceases we should able to operate. Tomorrow will be our last day of ops as we have remove all the feeder, counterpoises the antenna and brackets ready to pack in both the bicycles cases and our suitcases before consider packing our clothes. If the WX allows, hopefully we will have opportunity of working you tomorrow. On 12m,15m or 20m. On Thursday evening whilst in port at Punta Delgada 20m (14.185) gave some very good UK and European QSOs 73 de Tony es Suzanne

Storm changes schedule
Message 7 from the voyagers - seems this should have been from St Johns Newfoundland of radio fame (dit dit dit!)- no matter eastward Ho for the Azours and mucho pina colada hopefully —de Lawrie g4faa ( 15th) Begin forwarded message: From: TONY CADNEY <tony.cadney@...> Date: 15 October 2023 at 02:47:19 BST To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Subject: Storm changes schedule ? Dear Clifton ARS and radio friends, Sunday 15th Oct. should have been a sea day as we headed to St John's Newfoundland with a planned arrival on Monday 16th Oct. St John's was to be our last Canadian port before crossing the Atlantic for the Azores. However, a violent storm now approaching Newfoundland and the eastern seaboard of Nova Scotia has caused us to abandon our visit to Newfoundland and we are now heading east across the Atlantic to the Azores two days earlier than planned as we try and out run this storm system. Unfortunately, we will still encounter gale or storm force winds associated with this deep depression. As a result we will not be able to operate the radio as the upper decks are closed and all the deck furniture has either been removed or tied down. We will update you if and when conditions improve as we cross the Atlantic 73 de Tony es Suzanne
