Absent friends
开云体育Whatho Gang! ? One of the many topics discussed on the 80m impromptu net held on 12th March was that of “absent friends”. Among the gathered company of Colin (G0UJK), Lawrie (G4FAA), Keith (G4TJE), Peter (G7ULL) and myself. Questions were raised of as to the wellbeing and location of old friends and acquaintances. ? As a result I later received the following from Colin. ? Hi Tony, I have just come off the phone from a sprightly 83 year old RFC. He does get your e-mails still but his antenna broke and only has 40mtr vertical. He explained that he has daily phone contacts with G8CCL in Essex and that he is very active on DMR working the United States stations. He did ask after many op's from the twins, Clive and too many to mention. And did confirm about one or two having moved locations. He is aware that Mark G0GQT is into many contest's and that Keith G4TJE is back local to me. He also said that musician Pete G0NGP has moved to Littlehampton, and I told him that last I heard Ian G0PDZ was in?the Margate area. An Important?notice to all, is that he is using the G3GHN club call sign during his on air activities. all in all we had a 20min QSO and I asked him to keep in touch, as many had asked after him. ? Good news to hear Steve is well, and still about on the radio, even if it's only DMR! ? Feel free to repost this regards Colin ? ? So there you have it, just one topic from the recent net led to some tenacious enquiries by Colin that resulted in some reassuring information regarding old Clifton acquaintances…………. ? Watch out for news of future ?impromptu Clifton Country Club nets during the spring. ? Possibly ?40m may be a better option with the longer daylight hours. ? Catch you on the wireless! ? ? 73 de Tony es Suzanne ? ? |
Last evening's 80m net
开云体育Hello Gang, ? Just a note concerning last evening’s 80m impromptu net. Firstly to thank, Colin G0UJK, Lawrie G4FAA, Keith G4TJE and Peter G7ULL for turning up on a very crowded and noisy band for fairly relaxed and extensive natter. Unfortunately both Colin and I had overlooked that we were clashing with the RSGB Club’s CW Contest. My thanks to Bob G4DBW, Peter G3RQZ and Mark G0GQT who were taking part in this very popular contest for letting me know the reason for their non-appearance. ? With any future net dates rest assured we will consult the contest calendar and give more than a few days’ notice. ? Catch you on the wireless! ? 73 de Tony es Suzanne. ? ? ? ? |

Mid Atlantic
hi gang- latest from Tony HUZ noe enroute to the Azores .still not hheard them ( poor prop) but hope to do so before they land in UK on feb 24th.. 73 all Lawrie G4 faa ( monday) ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: <tony.cadney@...> Date: Mon, 17 Feb 2025 at 14:51 Subject: Mid Atlantic To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Hello friends & fellow radio ops. ? We are now almost in the mid North Atlantic for navigators among you 31.1N & 48.5W on a heading of 88.5 degs. (locator sq. GM51MA) On way to the Azores with 18knts of speed. WX here is typical for this region, cloudy moderate wind from the west (20knts) and 16/18C. Radio wise 12m & 15m have been fairly productive with 17 being used as the other bands close. A lack of European and UK stations has been noticeable, however this should improve as we move east and the time difference is less we are now only 3 hours behind GMT with another time change tonight. I will be on 12, 15 and 17m today depending on what activity we find.? ?Appears to be the best time for N. Europeans & UK 1600 to 1800 GMT Other wise we have had some super contacts into the far reaches of US & Canada as well as the Pacific including Japan & ZL.? Especially stations using very basic set ups of end fed wire antennas & 100w or often much less. ? We are scheduled to arrive in the Azores on 20th after that we will be dismantling the antenna and cabling in order to start the packing of the radio kit, bicycles, and associated tools & spares. Before we tackle the clothes etc. for our scheduled return to the UK on 24th. ? We still hope to work you soon, ? 73 de Tony es Suzanne |

US homeland security!
hi all ?- herewith the layest ( 2nd feb) - seems Mr Trump hates UK amateurs! Cant think why!? More after geb 11 ? ?De G4faa ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Tony Cadney G0HUZ <tonycadney@...> Date: Sun, 2 Feb 2025 at 04:14 Subject: US homeland security! To: Suzanne Cadney G0LUZ <suzanne.cadney@...> Hello fellow radio ops, ? Having left Belize (V3) yesterday (31/1) we had a sea day today as we headed north to Progresso, Mexico where we arrive tomorrow (2/2). Today we worked into the UK, Poland, France and Italy on 12mtrs CW and Norway and Holland 12m SSB. As well as numerous in the USA in both modes on 10m,12m and 17m. We seem to have a path on 12m into UK & Europe around 1600 to 1700 GMT. Colin (G0UJK) heard me during this time, as I tried to break-in to a QSO between Mark M0JCF and a US stn. Tomorrow (2/2) we hope to go cycling in the morning and get on the air in the afternoon around 1900hrs. ? The following day we have another sea-day as we head towards Galveston Texas. Please note this sea-day will be the last operating day as we have been told to remove our antenna whilst in US jurisdiction and will only be allowed to re-establish the antenna after leaving Miami our last US port on 11th Feb. ? This is due to the presence of US Homeland Security personnel on board who are set to examine this British registered ship with a fine toothed comb. This also includes stopping any of the ship’s crew going ashore (even to assist the less than able passengers down the gang-way) in the three US ports to prevent them absconding. To stopping the use of freshly made yogurt, as all milk products have to be in single use cartons as well as banning buffet service as all food must be delivered to the point of consumption by serving personnel…………I will not make any further comment! ? The end result is that the memsahib and I will be off the air from about 2200 hrs on ??Monday 3rd Feb until 2300hrs on Tuesday 11th Feb. ? So we hope catch you on the wireless on 3rd Feb before our enforced shut down. ? 73 fer nw de Tony es Suzanne. ? ? |
