Re: Anyone had this problem?

Maybe the battery is weak??--If it drops below 8 volts, WHEN LOADED TO 2AMPS,
the radio is subject to shut-down, or fail to come on. If your battery cannot
maintain this voltage, the unit will fail.--to test the battery, connect a
5ohm resistor accross it, in parrallel with a digital voltmeter, and check
the under-load voltage.--You should use at least a 10 watt resistor (it will
get hot, if the battery is good--is ok for 2-3 second test,30watts needed for
no time limit test)--using a 12 volt gell cell, the voltage measured should
be ABOVE 11.0 volts if the unit is charged, and large enough for the
radio.---Bob

Re: CAT Cable from FT50/VX5

Yes, they are both RS232 to TTL converters. You'll need to look at
the pinouts to get your connexions straight.

FWIW, I just got a Macintosh straight-through 8-pin cable & am going
to use it on my homebrew converter. I tried using a mini-din plug
but my hands aren't steady enough to make sure the wires & pins don't
touch each other. Should be a lot easier using a pre-wired plug,
plus I'll have the other data-outs easily available. Am using a
cable off a discarded ps-2 keyboard for the data port.

Hello John & Group,

I think the Mirage combo 2M/70cm are FM Only, Class C.

Waters & Stanton list a Microset Linear for 2/70cm.
It is 30W on 2M, 28W on 70cm plus a pre-amp.
GBP 199.95 @ $285.

Thanks for this very good idea.
What about the gauge of the wire ? Do you think a 0.5 mm2 loud
speaker wire will be OK ?

FTBasic V1.4.603 - Import ARRL TravelPlus data

V1.4.603 of FTBasic is now available for download at:

This version adds the ability to Convert a file of repeater
frequencies from the ARRL TravelPlus Repeater CD 2001-2002
Edition into a CSV file suitable for Import into FTBasic. This
file may then be merged in with other frequencies and loaded
to FT-847 or FT-817 rigs.

The 2001-2002 edition was the version available during
development. If anyone has an earlier version that does not
work as-is then please email me direct and I will see what I
can do to support it.

If anyone else has a well-known source of frequencies that are
in need of Convert capability please email me direct.

Hi John & Group,

I think that the 2/70 Mirage is a Class C for FM only.

Water and Stanton list a 2/70cm Linear, VUR-30 Microset.
Output 30W (2m), 28W (70cm), Low noise GaAsFET pre-amp.
It is GBP 199.95, @ $285.

I did notice that the URL given for accessing the FAQ was something
like .../FT817/databas . This did result in the "Oops" message.
However, it didn't take the brains of a rocket scientist to try
sticking an "e" on the end of the URL and trying again.

Hi guys and gals,

Here is a nice article that Dale, W8ABZ sent me and I got permission to
upload it here at the HFpack group or other groups so that others may
benefit by it. This kit is made of 6 pieces of speaker, or whatever
multistranded insulated wire, each wire having a small socket on either end
similar to banana sockets and plugs. By connecting together at least 2
pieces at a time, you have the counterpoise you need for each band. So by
using variuos combinations of these 6 pieces you can cover all bands between
80 and 6 meters.

Lots snipped...

Hi Dave,

Why not join Yahoo! FT817 Group? You are not required to answer the
questions during sign up accurately (if you understand my meaning).
By not joining the FT817, you are just peeking in the window. I note
that the FT817 Group is one of the few that you can read the messages
AND post messages without being a member. Thanks to Pres Waterman
(Moderator) for understanding the merit of this approach. So Dave,
join the group and reap the benefits.

Programing Memories in the FT-817

Gerald Schmitt

A couple of bits of news.

First I received the fix from RT Systems last night one must
presume they took a holiday weekend can't begrudge them
that. I have not tried it having found an alternative.

Second if you haven't made the plunge yet wait a bit for news
of an alternative. The big attraction for me of the RT software
was the ability to transfer data in from the ARRL Travel Plus TM
CDRom. Well RT is no longer the only game in town. It is
appropriate that the author announce his software but stay tuned.

Re: green wire

David Perry

And if you cut the wire on the battery case side (i.e. the plug, not the
rig's socket) you leave the rig "as new".

Charges at c180ish mAh so run it for two 8 or ten hour cycles and you'll e
up and away.

The green wire needs to be cut if you are using rechargeable batteries.

The green wire is there to prevent an alkaline battery from being
accidentally charged.

Re: RT Systems Cat software is out!

Frankly, I think the "settings" menu of the software still has some
bugs in it. I have the new version (it's not just a patch) and it
ups and downloads, but still appears to be some glitches in settings
file xfer.

Any ideas?

Hmmm, an FT-100D or an IC-706 mkIIG? ;-)

The Mirage amps come in at least a couple of VHF/UHF models

probable that we have to recognize the limits of a modular
