Re: Adding DC to RF output

Are you asking about the value to use or about physical solution?

Values are easy to find, i.e.?

Hi

Since the radios are so much alike it should be the same way. I would think.

I would say you can discuss how you use your FT-817 series rig, as well as improving/ repairing? and maintaining it. Unless of course you're discussing how to use to as a door stop which is a purpose not even remotely related to the spirit of this group. As a brick does the dame thing. The purpose of this group is listed on the home page as:

Dedicated to owners and operators of the Yaesu FT-817 all-mode, all-band wonder rig? Which is completely broad...?

This group was started 8/23/00 my wife's (N8NCC) last birthday before she passed.. This last sentence being off topic..

See my point?? Something near and dear to me may be irrelevant to everyone else.

The discussion should revolve around the FT-817 series radios as the focal..

Adding DC to RF output

Here's a post that's on topic!

Does anyone have any info on adding DC to the RF output(s) of the FT-817? This is to be used to switch remote relays.

I agree.... let's get back on topic, with my apologies for derailing the group.

Warning: This may be off-topic.

One does have the option not to read individual messages.

Is discussion on how you actually use your 817, as opposed to improving/repairing/maintaining it off topic?

Re: Amateur Portable Operations Group

Reading various responses since the original posts:
This group which I thought was for FT-817 series transceivers is going totally off topic.
I subscribed to the group to share technical information regarding my FT-817 I have owned since 2001
I subscribe to other groups.io, to specifically receive information regarding other particular topics.
Facebook is not that venue. Facebook sells makeup, scam electric bicycles for $149.95 and requests to fund non existent charities..
Things I am not interested in.
This " Amateur Radio Portable Operations Group" is worth mentioning once here.
In the original post, Facebook and the VFW was mentioned and I responded to them appropriately with MY OPINION.
Further "
Amateur Radio Portable Operations Group" would be out of place in the FT-817 Group.io any further.
A quick search of groups.io renders? a plethora of groups that could be associated with "
Amateur Radio Portable Operations Group "
POTA resulted in 10 listed groups
SOTA resulted in 25 listed groups
IOTA resulted in 9 listed groups
QRP resulted in 86 listed groups
PORTABLE OPERATING resulted in 17 listed groups.

It is clear all the above encompasses "
Amateur Radio Portable Operations Group " and therefore should not be explored here any further.
Let's return to the subject at hand FT-817.

Re: Amateur Portable Operations Group

My portable operation is mostly on the VHF-UHF-microwave-mmwave bands doing portable hilltopping. I am guessing I am in the minority in any group that deals with portable operations unless it's specifically for VHF+. I use my FT817 for 50, 144 and 432 MHz directly, and as an IF rig for all the bands 222 and 902 MHz and up. I have transverters for all bands through 47 GHz.

I would like to try portable HF operating using a W9UCW "Flying Saucer" vertical antenna. I am just about finished building it and I have high hopes for this antenna.

Larry,

Perhaps, in the heat of the keyboard, you did not realise that your remark is pretty foul, and unwelcoming, to those members of this group, and to Radio Amateurs in general, who happen to be female. Presumably you are not the misogynist that the bald remark implies.

I have almost 3,000 friends on Facebook. I would guess somewhere between 500 and 1,000 are radio amateurs all around the world. It's nice to have that means to keep in touch with them. A lot of large ham radio groups (Society of Midwest? Contesters, ARRL Contests discussion group, CWOPS, ham radio microwave community to name a few) have a strong presence on Facebook. In 12 years of being on Facebook, I have never had any problems due to it. If you're afraid of information harvesting, that happens on internet discussion groups, too. Heck, I Googled something the other day and all of a sudden ads for that type of thing started showing up on every webpage I looked at.

There are some more serious reasons not to use Face***k. However, everybody must find it themselves in proper time. Explaining and persuading will do nothing.

1.The date/time was intentionally not mentioned. This first outing will be using Echolink (long story there).
2. This is too dumb a comment to even comment on.
