Re: LDG Z-11 vrs. RT-11 Tuner max. RF power
The fact that the toroids are wound with the same wire but have larger cores is interesting, I tend to doubt it has much to do with a higher rating power wise other than working better under a poorer

Re: LDG Z-11 vrs. RT-11 Tuner max. RF power
Is the capacitor voltage rating and physical size the same in both tuners? Are the relays identical? In addition to worry about saturation of the cores on power peaks, one would have to consider

Re: LDG Z-11 vrs. RT-11 Tuner max. RF power
I do not have the Z-11, but I think the problem may be if the load VSWR is close to the max specified (I am not sure what it is off hand), then the tuner will work harder and the toroid might get hot.

Re: LDG Z-11 vrs. RT-11 Tuner max. RF power
I bet the tuners are rated at maximum load or close to it. Z11 is rated at 60 watts max PEP, 30 watts CW/AM/FM. The greater the mismatch you have, the lower the amount of power it will handle at that

Now I had a closer look on the toroids: Z-11: T50-2 AL49, diameter 12,7 mm RT-11: T68-2 AL57, diameter 17,5mm height and number of windings is the same. 73 Martin

Re: LDG Z-11 vrs. RT-11 Tuner max. RF power
The toroids are only slightly bigger in core size,( about 3mm in diameter) the wire is the same 24#. The boards are identical and the bigger toroids fit in the same places. Martin
