Re: LDG Z-11 vrs. RT-11 Tuner max. RF power

I do not have the Z-11, but I think the problem may be if the load VSWR is
close to the max specified (I am not sure what it is off hand), then the
tuner will work harder and the toroid might get hot.
You said you tested it with 100W, but you did not say if you were into a
reasonably well matched load or not.

Hi,

I have an LDG Z-11 Auto-Tuner, which is rated to 60W max. I wanted
to bulid the RT-11 Tuner which is rated until 125W for the FT-897.
When unpacking the kit i realized, that the two tuners are
absolutely identical besides an little bigger toroid which are T68-2
in the RT11 instead of T50-2 in the RT11. The board is the same, the
latch relays are the same, the capacitors are the same.

Now im am thinking of sending back the unused RT-11 Kit and using
the Z-11 with 100W. I already tried 100W even FM for some minutes
with the Z-11 and everything seems to be fine. The toroids keep cool.

Why does LDG rate the Z-11 with 60W? Is it marketing to keep a
distance to the "bigger" tuners?

How are your experiences when using the Z-11 with higher RF power
than it is rated?
