Re: Recommend me a battery pack
I have carried the 817 up a bunch of SOTA summits. I have been using a 11.1 volt rc car battery. I attached velcro to the radio, and to my batteries. One battery in the picture is swollen and

Recommend me a battery pack
My first /P session didn't go too well. I set up on a hillside overlooking the sea in North Devon with a JPC-12 vertical antenna. On 40m I coud hear plenty of stations around the UK, France and

Re: TC1 board
Really why would one want a TCXO for the FT817/8, one uses the VFO to tune. And I would not commit my FT817 to any service that needs it, there are much better ways to go.
But to each their own.

Re: TC1 board
Buy the original, despite its price, it's worth it.

Opinions vary on whether the Chinese units are worth using. While it is
generally agreed upon that they do improve frequency stability,
apparently quite a few - if not most - of them visibly increase

Re: TC1 board
The TCXO-9 is always out of stock here (UK) - NB people say to avoid eBay specials
WIMO have them: https://www.wimo.com/en/tcxo-9

Re: TC1 board
Thanks!
Is it still possible to buy a TCXO?? If so, where?
I did luck out I think -- it has a Collins Mechanical Filter in it -- the CW one as near as I can tell -- which seems to be worth about

Farren:
The TC-1 is the "standard" (not temperature-compensated) FT-817 crystal
oscillator.

I picked up a nice FT-817 at a hamfest over the weekend.? I just opened it up to see if any options were installed.? In the TCXO area is a board that has TC1 printed on it.? I've spent some time

Re: A couple of basic questions
I used a Yaesu ATAS 25, which looks similar. Sliding coil, adjustable whip. Very touchy to tune at times, heavily dependent on the radial system. I was able to "fine tune"? the SWR to less than 1.5:1

Thanks Al.
I did have an LDG tuner for this rig but as I wasn't planning any portable work at the time I sold it ...
I've bought a JPC-12 vertical which is <1.5:1 at 7MHz but higher on the higher

Re: A couple of basic questions
The radio will alert you when the SWR is too high and it will back down during that condition.? I just found a tuner kit on Amazon for $35 and the enclosure for another $35.? It looks good so far
