Re: question on CW
Can’t help with the keyer question, but you would exchange as 1B TN. The multipliers only needed during scoring.

In search of unobtanium.
Good morning all.
I find myself in need of something that will probably be unobtanium. But if
I don't try, I certainly will not find it.
I need the original box with packing for the old Yaesu

Re: question on CW
Hello Oliveira
I'll try my best. I need to say that this will be radio stand alone, no computer control, and since
you want to practice CW either with a hand key or paddle and the internal keyer to

Re: question on CW
Good morning friend. I have a Yaesu FT817
And I would like to know how to configure the FT817 to train CW. I have a
CW key and I want to train to learn.
You can teach how to configure the FT817.

Re: question on CW
I did not try it, but a mono-stereo audio adapter might help. In theory, it would be possible to use either paddle as a straight key if the adapter is used. Just an idea to try.

Thank You Mike, that co-responds to my finding to on the keying of the rig. I guess my memory
is not so good, or it was on some other piece of gear. Quite possible that too. If I need to use

Re: question on CW
Marty,
I just tested my 817nd with the internal keyer off and it keys in straight key mode with the left paddle using my Begali Traveler Light. No possibility of it being wired backwards because

Re: Radio is weird
Hi Al:
The radio is showing modes on all menus.
I'm going to send it to Yaseu next month when I get my Social Security.
Thanks to everybody who responded.

Re: radio is weird
Ron,
Can you send a picture of the menu screen? It may tell us something about
the mode the radio is in.

Re: question on CW
Hi Mike
I have confirmed that on my FT-817 when I have my paddle plugged in and want to try
to use it as a straight key with the paddle the left paddle is the one that keys the rig. I
thought in

Re: question on CW
FB Marty, it sounds like you will get it sorted out.
Menu 19 paddle normal or reverse works only with the keyer activated.

Re: ACC and DATA plugs for FT-818?
Thanks, Greg.
Yes, that could be one solution. At least I know now I have a normal FT-818...a few responses indicate that at least some of them have smaller holes than the '817, though

Re: question on CW
Hi Mike
Yes on all of that, I did try menu 19 to reverse the paddle but it didn't seem to help. But that may have
been before I rewired the paddle. I found the ground wire had come broken at the

Re: question on CW
Hi Marty, With BK active you will still activate the transmitter. For off air practice you would want to un-tick it as well.
You would have to reverse the dit-dah the wiring on your paddle to change

It has been quite a while since I have had my ft-817 on the air, moving and such

Have you tried doing a full reset to factory?
A second question, was there any update or programing being done before the problem started?

Re: radio is weird
Yeah - weird!
Not much help for the DO-IT-YOURSELF method. But I have found Yaesu repair
facility to be quick, do a great job, and at a reasonable cost. Frankly, if
you offered me that much to

Re: radio is weird
Seems more like a wiring problem, or perhaps an issue with one of
the ICs. Either way, a processor reset isn't going to fix it.
