If I remember correctly the numbers on the plug pin out in the manual is reversed fron a cat5 pin out. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou can try my app too, named jAReC (the new v4 version), that can be run on Windows, Linux or Mac.FT817 config file is already available. In v3 compatibility mode can be used as a server for the Pocket RxTx Android app. Pocket RxTx v4 will follow later this year, with similar functionalities and design as jAReC v4. 73 Dan YO3GGX On 17-Feb-22 7:16 PM, Johnny via

Re: Internal Battery Tests
Nice report. I am now curious on how to perform such measurements. I looked up the charger and read the manual. It still left me with lots of questions.
Is there a guide you can recommend on how to obtain the parameters needed by the charger? The manual talk about max current and voltages (it does provide voltages but no currents). How are the Ah measurements performed? I did not see them in the manual. Thanks in advance for any guidance. Carlos |

Internal Battery Tests
Finally got around to testing some internal battery options for the '817 using the common B6 mini charger.
I have been using Panasonic Eneloop Pro (black) batteries for casual operation for a year. https://www.panasonicbatteryproducts.com/eneloop_pro_rechargeable_batteries/eneloop_pro_aa_4-pack/ They are rated 2550mAh I measure: 2500mAh to 7.2V @0.5A (0.9V/cell) and 2400mAh to 8.8V @0.5A Total pack weight (inc tape, wires) 249g Aliexpress batteries "DEAH 3000mAh NiMH LSD" measure at 1850mAh after 5 cycles. (250g) for one set and 2020mAh for another set. I may have over charged the first set once. Certainly not 3000mAh. Capacity is not increasing during the 5 cycles. I also got some Aliexpress Li-Po 506090 cells sold as 3200mAh. A perfect fit in the battery hole. They arrived marked 4200mAh and test at 2450mAh. At 186g they are a pretty underwhelming. For all the charging hassle, I will keep using the NiMH. Also have fairly high R partly due to the individual protection circuits, which have 2x8205A fets in series for 25m x 2 x 3 = 150mR Calculate to146Wh/kg. Good 18650's should be ~230Wh/kG and L91 disposable lithium rate at 288WH/kg ( but I have not seen any actual test results) Charging: from https://data.energizer.com/pdfs/nickelmetalhydride_appman.pdf "A charger that applies a 0.1 C rate for 12 to 14 hours is well suited for NiMH batteries" i.e. 255mA vs my '817 measured 260mA "maintenance (or trickle) charge rate of less than 0.025 C (C/40) " This would be 63mA. The radios measured 10mA is below this. (n.b I calculate 138mA + 14mA trickle , from the schematic component values R1435=4.7 and R1436=47ohm, need to check actual value in my radio sometime) Expected Life: Energiser say: "However, battery life is limited to 5 years or less." and "Typical expectancy life is 2 to 5 years." [BTW, don't leave batteries in during long storage or when they are old. When I bought mine, battery slime had gone all the way up the wires to the pcb and corroded it.] |

For sale Blue Tooth CAT Interface
#bluetooth
I have an extra brand new unopened package blue tooth CAT interface , a YC1-BT VE2DX unit.? (I'll open and send photos if you insist).? See??for full specs. $50 firm plus domestic US shipping: $5 US First Class postage (no tracking) or $9.50 Priority Mail with tracking and insurance (I recommend the Priority Mail option).? Outside US actual shipping once I calculate it.??
Observation: I've previously had the Ebay units with a pair of FT817 and the YC1-BT is way better packaged and looks like it could hold up in the field.? I was always worried about the Ebay version breaking off and leaving me with a messed up jack in the radio. 73 Steve KS1G |
Re: Adding DC to RF output
Hi Zack, I have done this mod to one of my 817s to operate a transverter, works well.

Soldering the +5V takeoff to the board is a bit delicate, but there is plenty of room. cheers, John, VK2YOC. On 25/01/2022 7:41 am, Zack Widup wrote:

Re: Adding DC to RF output
MFJ sells modules for adding DC to an antenna coaxial cable.? Basically AC couples the RF to the coax center thru a capacitor, applies the DC to the center conductor thru an inductor and has same at the other end. The ones sold by MFJ are for feeding power and controlling a tuner at the antenna feed point or up the coax. 73, ron, n9ee/r Ron Wright, N9EE/R Hernando Co ARES EC BSEE Micro Computer Concepts Spring Hill, Florida 146.64 repeater, 1100 ft HAAT 352-835-5610 also n9ee55@...
