Subject: Re: FT817 Thank you very much for your enquiry regarding
NEW YEASU Performance 'FT-817'...
First at all, we have noticed from Yaesu
Corporation that they will put FT-817 by the end of this mounth
in Japan. Couple days ago,We have informed
that the retail price is 79,800YEN including the rubber duck
(50,144,430MHZ in one piece).
Unfortunatly, we had no chance to test this
rig yet, but we believe that FT-817 is as well as FT-100 or
little bit better.
The battery is UM-3(LR-6) type and it needs 8
pieces(DC12V).
Battery consumption by RX is 0.48A and TX is
1.8A/h.
Regarding the connector, both SO239 and BNC
cover the all band and each connector is programmable
in the rig.
The phone output level is lower than speaker
level.
Yes.your are right.The digital mode on PSK31
is workable on both SSB and FM mode.
Since reliese this new portable rig, there is
great impact on the amatuer radio market and we have already
a lot of purchasing reservation from our great
cosutomers.
Please feel free to contact us, if you and
your friends are thinking to buy this 'NEW MODEL'
We are sure that we can offer you the best
price.
?
Sincerely yours
?

Oh! sorry Paul I forgot , 50amp ? is this why the FCC back-heeled ithuh... actually I typed, "50 amp" but you're right! There still should have been a capital W after the 50. I think I was still laughing. :-) Ten*Tec made a 50 WATT amp. It was called a Model 409. You can see one in my website museum. 73! =paul= W8KC Collector of Ten*Tecs and other fine plastics. Glad you did not take offense John! I am still chuckling over it a few
hours later. Here in the US there is another odd term we hear in the media frequently... a high-powered assault rifle! Like there's such a thing as a LOW POWER assault rifle... Now some gun fanatic will tell us all there is... but the point is mute. When the bullets fly, I'll take a high powered assault rifle. We will keep everyone informed on this rig and trust you blokes will do the same. My mother came to the US from Blackpool in 1955. We may take her back for a visit this next spring/summer. 73! =paul= W8KC Collector of Ten*Tecs and other fine plastics. Visit the Virtual Ten*Tec Museum at: <> |
Bit quiet on our msgs isnt it ?
My, its a bit quiet on the FT817 egroup front isnt it ? ever since
Paul W8KC suggested everyone to calm down by stop jumping up & down & getting Yaesu to dump a couple of hundred $ on the price. I honestly dont think it works this way Paul. I beleive that all the singing & dancing excitement within this group can only justify Yaesu to export the thing in the first place. (They originally manufactured it for their market only !, being staunch montain back-packers in Japan) It was I take to be a thank you to their home buyers of Yaesu. But maybe I am wrong, with such a product it must put Icom, Kenwood and maybe Alinco scratching/banging their designer's heads together. Maybe the other big boys have something similair but have been pipped to the post? I for one know the current price of the Yen to the english pound and if I find the price being near the ?1k mark as one retailer over here in the UK suggested (a profit of about 100% +) I will not buy one, also the way the market with Amateur radio is going in general I think ALL Emporiums worldwide should think before they release a ridiculous seling price to us lot. after all the FT817 is a qrp rig and I am sure the dedicated qrp lads would rather buy one of those Australian hand held 160-10m rugged thingys (ssb/cw only) and use their other 6/2/70 seperate gear than be ripped off by a Ham retailer, or stick to building their own, as the qrp home-brew gear is simpler & cheap!. We all know the approx cost of this rig and I am sure its worth a couple of hundred $ / ? on the Japanese price but thats all. I also wish JA1MP was around to view the technology he originally pioneered, (SSB & founder of Yaesu). de John. |
Re: Digest Number 18
Oh! sorry Paul I forgot , 50amp ? is this why the FCC back-heeled it
because the company should have printed 50watts on the Arganaut ? or is it because ur typing this while you are stamping on ur anti- skid/anti-lock brakes, typing ur reply while mobile ?? (Ha ha ha ha just thought id get my own back Hi! see you soon Cheers Paul de John) |
Re: Digest Number 18
Sorry Paul, You know what I'm getting at though, probably the mad
thing about my request is that we are waiting for a qrp rig to show (who needs a linear) I'm sure I dont but I am curious if there is such a thing. (My msg did mean more of an all band more than mode Hi! Anyhow I hope you US Hams are going to post all ur findings on the thing when you receive your rigs now the FCC has passed its approval. (The EU stamp of approval over will probably hum & har for a few month & we'll end up with a rig covered in all sorts of screening tape etc yuk!. de John G0VGZ Thundery Durham NE England. - -- In FT817@..., "Paul R. I built one and it works well. On the other hand, I hardly ever use it. 5 watts is almost always enough (except for SSB when you are down in the noise). Remember, that's only around 10db (5 watts to 50 watts). So if you are 10 over 9 with the amp on, you will still be S9 with the amp off (assuming the S meter is calibrated). 73 Mike Maiorana, KU4QO g0vgz@... wrote: Doesnt look like there is provision for a snap on batt/amp pack on |

Doesnt look like there is provision for a snap on batt/amp pack on
the rear Paul, Isnt there someone out there who knows of a say 50w all band/mode linear driven by 1-5 watts for variable output ? --- In FT817@..., "Paul Gerhardt" <pgerhardt@h...> wrote: news toothought thatpanel orexciter/modulator thatsomewhat suprised that the design of the FT-817 was not similar. Of course it is similar tothe MK1 series with the internal battery pack and all. Makes me wonder ifthere will later be some snap on pack of C cells or larger and 50-100mobile docking amp of some sort. (Sorry, tires are in the news too much lately.) I wish that docking would take place with rigs. I would have thought that by now, there would be a 2m HT radio that slid into either a front panel or microphone which then is really two radios, portable and mobile. Put a decent receiver in the module and then a small exciter/modulator that would either excite a 5 W HT brick or a 50 W mobile amp. kt3a After having the Yaesu FT-290MKII/690/790 series of radios I was somewhat suprised that the design of the FT-817 was not similar. I knew you were out there. Looks like Yaesu has another winner in the works, eh? It would be a great benefit for the US hams that have NEVER been QRP before to receive in the package some information about QRP operation. Perhaps something from QRP-ARCI, The Michgan QRP Club, Norcal, etc. Anyways... the joke on the repeater is that I'll get one first (I am the most active QRP op in our 250 member club). Our club's email reflector has already been peppered, by me, with info and pictures :-) 73! =paul= W8KC Collector of Ten*Tecs and other fine plastics. Sorry for causing a panic.
The 160-10 + 2 & 70cm in the text was confirmed as a typo. I guess either I was the only one wearing specs and saw it or everyone who saw it ignored it. We can all feel better now. Sorry Bob W8CBR
That wasnt meant to be fascicius remark (sure ive mispelt that word)
about putting ur specs on hi!! but as the rest say it does cover 6 as you will be aware after everyone in the group sends u a reply (please dont lads I think Bob knows now) and It will only clog our pages up. Incidentally it has got a door release on bottom of case for easy battery access. And can the lads at Yaesu USA get a deciphered spec page for us all to browse ?? even if its the sensitivity values etc Please ?? I am thinking the rubber duck looks like it comes in 2 parts if so can Yaesu tech team design some seperate add on middle bits to cover individual hf bands with tightly wound coils ?? sure it'll be an extra revenue , maybe do it in a full add - on pack with 9 extra wound hf band resonant sticks. If u do not im sure I will wind my own Sure they will be restricted but it will be fun on a hill-top or somewhere.Maybe something on the line of the outbacker ie. 1 piece with seperate resonant tapping points , just to place in between bottom & top piece. de John |
