Re: FT991a with Signalink?

开云体育

Are you aware of the Northwest Digital DRAWS board? It is a Raspberry Pi "hat" that controls up to two radios via mini DIN 6 pin cables (two signal links on one Pi-sized board) and includes:

An accurate clock (sync'd via on-board GPS)

An on-board GPS for APRS and similar applications

A voltage converter to power the raspberry pi from 12v source

And comes with a raspberry pi 'image' (OS and apps) to do all manner of digital modes, both HF and VHF/UHF

It seems like a nice way to cut down the cable clutter when operating digital modes with raspberry pi.

Re: FT991a with Signalink?

Hi Ken and Mark

I can see either way, my normal digital station (if anything I do is normal that is) is a laptop and an

FT817 with a interface kit. The laptop sound card is as good as the Signal Link I also have. However

I also have a Rpi B+2 that runs the Flsuite just fine. Not using the Signal link but a USB sound dongle

Codex which I guess falls under the "Just because" category.

Now what I have found is with the Rpi setup there are a lot of individual pieces strung together. I have

also found that using the Rpi setup you will need a powered USB hub to to get full advantage of all

of the USB pieces working properly.

Along those lines, I am looking at building a platform on the back of the Cody 10" monitor to house

the Rpi, USB hub, and power distribution. But I still have the cabled keyboard to contend with.

So all in all if I am going out to do serious digital I will take the Laptop. If I am going out to? enjoy

the portable (I only do portable HOA you know) I might do the Rpi for fun.

Just me.

Windows laptops with enough 'umph' to handle digital modes and give you a 12-15" screen & full keyboard can be had for just under $150. In my experience, the raspberry pi is like the stone in the children's 'stone soup' fable [1] - buying everything you need to build out a Raspberry Pi can run up to $150 pretty quickly.

Anyway, just curious, thanks,

Re: New yaesu 818nd owner wuestions

Hi Steve:

That LDG tuner should be a good "match" (no pun intended) for the FT-818, since the 818 is pretty much an 817 with some updates. ?

However, I would also recommend the Elecraft T1 tuner which is just as capable and smaller is size, which is a good feature for field operation. ?Elecraft also has a cable available which connects the 817/818 to the tuner, so that it will track band changes.

File - FT817 Group Guidelines.txt

The FT817 Group averages over 500 (+/-130 one-sigma) messages
per month. Because the volume of messages is rather large, I would
like to remind everyone of a few long-standing FT817 guidelines to
follow. Most of you do so already.

1. Civility. (This is practiced well by our members!)

2. Please sign your messages with name and call sign, e.g.,
Fred - W1XYZ.

3. When replying to a posting (message), kindly delete all
unnecessary text including the trailing text. Only leave the text
from the prior message to which you are replying ... <snip> the
rest. If one desires to read the entire thread, the command [Up
Thread] at the top of the message can be used to read the entire
discussion. Remember also that a lot of members have slow
connections and some even pay connect time or characters rx/tx. This
also helps the clarity of your message.

4. When replying to a post, please decide if your comment should be
to the entire group of about 10,000 or directly to the author of the
post. When you click on "Reply," it goes to everyone. To reply
direct (simplex), you should click on the email address following the
user ID line at the top of the post. Notice that only a part is
shown for privacy. Also, please think about if what you are about to
post in reply to the group really should be to the group ... replies
like "I sure do agree with that" doesn't add much to the group. Send
thoughts like those direct to the poster please.

5. It is fine for members to post something for sale or wanted to
buy ... once per item(s). All questions and offers to buy/sell
should be made directly to the poster, not to the Group. The member
posting the FS or WTB may post that the item(s) was/were
sold/purchased.

6. Posting of commercial items for sale by manufacturers or dealers
is also fine, but should be done on an infrequent basis. The FT817
members benefit by learning of hardware, software, sales, etc. before
it appears in magazines, etc.

7. New members are all moderated until their first posting. If it
follows the guidelines, it is approved and the member is change to
unmoderated status. This list is a partially moderated list, i.e.,
only first message is moderated while later messages are monitored
after posting. If an unmoderated posting is found by the moderators
to have a problem, then the poster is contacted directly to resolve.
Actions are taken against those that chronically violate the rules.
The reason for this form of moderation is to block spammers from the
list and it has been working.

8. Do not add disclaimers to your posts that (1) restrict the ability
of other members to use the information you post, (2) claim a copyright
to your post, or (3) to claim any type of "rights" as a consequence of
another member replying to your post either directly to you or to the group.

I was able to confirm using the color menu that that I have an original-non ND FT-817.

Hi Don,

As far as I know, one of the best ways to identify the ND model is to check Menu Item #15.

If you have 3 display colors, ie, Blue, Amber, and Violet, then you have the ND model.

Check this out and see how many display colors you have.

Erlend,

what you should see on pin 1 is the DC input voltage, fed from a 10Ω, 1/16W resistor. This can only supply 75mA, or the thermal rating of R1235 will be exceeded. If you are not seeing 13V or so, then you may be measuring at the wrong pin. The diagram on page 5 of the user manual is, AFAIK, as seen from behind the pins of the plug.

There is a more recent version of the service manual to be found online, though I can't remember quite where I found it.

Hi Howard,
Were you? a ship R/O ?
Ship photo on your qsl card looks like sister ship of the old American? Export

Export had 6, then 5 after Seawitch burned up. I was 3/Mate on Export Patriot, and Lightning for short trips. A couple of them converted to crane ships for military reserve. I think one or two in mothball fleet still.
