Exact inner and outer diameter of power connector ?

Hi,

What are the exact inner and outer diameter of the FT-817 power
connector ? I've no tool to make an exact measurement ...
I guess outer diameter 3,8 mm and inner diameter 1,3 mm, but are
these really the exact figures ?

Thanks,
Gerald

Hi Tom,

Do you mean the article in the July issue? (Current issue is now
August.) The July article was not a review article, but an article
written by the developer of the Miracle Whip antenna. We are
awaiting reports by those that have purchased the antenna. Early
reports were that shipping was to start by early July, but no one has
posted that they have received it yet.

Has anyone received it yet?

Received my MP-1 today, all I can say is WOW !! I had forgotten how
fun amateur radio can be. But anyway Would somebody please tell me how
to configure the MP-1 for 6 meters. There is no mention of it in the
documents. I did buy the tripod and base extention so I have those
parts if needed.

Thanks in Advance --Dan-- KE3UC

ARRL Message Forwarding Status

I spoke again with the ARRL today about the mail forwarding problem
that some of us have experienced. Others have contacted them as
well. From what I can tell, it seems that the difficulty has been
resolved. Forwarding is now under a minute round trip for me. Hope
it remains this way.

I have done the green wire mod and everything is running great with a
set
of
unfused rechargeables. I new battery tray from Yaesu would "repair" my
green wire mod -- anyone try to buy one from Yaesu? Price?

I had no problem using a pin to remove the green wire from the little
white
carriers and store it inside the battery cover with tape, thus being able
to
reinsert the wire when necessary.

And I have had no problems with spring tension or overcharging since
December 2000.

As to people being concerned about 2x8 or 2x10 hours, since my 1600mAH
Sanyo
NiMh cells are room-temp cold at the end of charge, I am not stressing
about
overcharge.

There was a review in the current QST of the Miracle Whip antenna for the

Julio, 3/8-24 is not PL-259.

3/8-24 is the standard thread used for the base of mobile whip antenna
mounts.

PL-259 is the plug that fits the standard antenna connector SO-239 on
the back of radios.

Some VHF and UHF antennas actually use the PL-259/SO-239 as a mount.

3 ATX models: BNC, PL-259, 3/8-24

There are at least 3 models of the ATX Walkabout by Waters & Stanton.
1. Straight BNC base*
2. Right angle PL-259 base*
3. Straight 3/8-24 base

The coil base section of the ATX on both #1 and #2 models actually
have an RCA phono male inside, with adapters from female RCA phono to
BNC or right angle PL-259.

The straight 3/8-24 is much more durable, and can be used in
combination with other types of antenna hardware, such as mast rod
extensions, springs, or mobile mounts.

The 3/8-24 when combined with the Superantennas FT-817 side mount
provides the most stable and strong method for portable or pedestrian
mobile use.

I have been using the 1800 mAh AAs from

I have charged them in the 817 as

When removing them and reinstalling
them, it isn't any more tedious than
with AA alkalines. And, they charge
so fast in the sparate charger that
I almost always use it.

I have made DX QSO's with these internal
cells with Europe on 20M/SSB using a
dipole. As well as numerous CW&PSK QSO's.
The voltage is obivously low (9.6V) versus
the alkalines (12V) , but the operating time
is much-much longer.

Also, be advised that you have to
charge/discharge these cells at least three
to four times before they give their true
performance.

Code Warrior Jr. Paddle in a Soap Box

For portable operation, my Code Warrior Jr. Paddle fits nicely in a plastic
soap box. These are the plastic two-part containers that can be found at
many drug stores and places like Wal-Mart.

It protects the paddle quite well and no damage has occured while being
carried around in a padded cloth laptop computer case. I nestle it in
along with the coax in one of the side pockets. The 817 and PW-1 antenna
with all its pieces are in the inside compartments.

You can also use the MAC SCSI cables. I Got one for 6.00, cut it in half for 2 cables.

That sounds like a DNS issue, e-mail has no guarantee of delivery.
Delays happen due to down servers and poor connection between relay

the relay severs. I have seen people send 50 megabyte attachments
only to be refused at the receiving end. This causes the message to
be relayed back to sender. Remember not all sites wide band widths
available, some only have T1 (1.5 meg) while others have almost
unlimited.

Your are correct in some cases. In this case the message was a
single word -- Test. There seems to be an issue at the ARRL
contractor location since test messages sent to the same final
address but by different paths are arriving in a minute or less
except via the forwarding service. Of 3 test messages sent over the
weekend, only one arrived and it took many hours (and none bounced
this time). I note that a number of reply addresses on the FT817 use
the ARRL forwarding service and that is why it was raised as a topic.
