The reason for the SG237 Smartuner to start the tuning process again
might also be an old software in the EPROM of the 237! You can write
to SGC and ask for a new version that makes the tuner more stable or
you can use the SMARTLOCK feature.

This may be a dumb question, but are you sure you have TX power
output selected for 5 W (Operating Function Row 10, A Key)?
With
the
13.8 V supply, you should have no icon for the TX power out
showing.

Here are some American English Definitions...
-Earphone (RX):
Miniature speaker placed inside the ear.

IMHO...
An excellent aftermarket accessory for the FT-817 would be a small
waterproof speaker-mic with a Heil mic element. The FT-817 speaker-mic
cord would end in both an RJ45 and a mini-phone connector.

The Vertex VX-1200 has an excellent waterproof speaker-mic with a mini
socket on it for an optional earphone. I certainly have found the
VX-1200 speaker-mic to be a very convenient device for hiking
(pedestrian mobile).

This is not worth an argument, so let me just say that my manual
shows the headphone/speaker connector as tip/sleeve and only one
channel is active if I plug stereo 'phones into the radio.

If you select headphones, as opposed to SPK on the little switch by the jack
you get mono in stereo headphones. Quite a clever trick

There's a gold-plated version, RS # 274-882, that may have superceded
the cheaper model.

Of course, I think this is all moot, since my radio doesn't require an
adapter,

Also, the original inquiry came from oh6bi, so any RS numbers may be
irrelevant for that person.

I've tried mine. Stereo phones work fine. Sound in both ears.
I just tried again with three different sets of stereo headphones.

Maybe it's a model change? Mine's serial # 1D250091.
Does your schematic show a mono jack or stereo?

Perhaps we could have input from others?

I have an old BM-5, which is
Heil's lightweight headset in a one-sided model, which I think is just
about perfect, except when wearing a helmet. They aren't, apparently,
made any more.
Negative, although only the new version of the BM-10 is
listed on the Heil website, they are making the BM-5 too.
Just took one off when I left the shack. :^) Very light and
convenient with excellent tx audio.

I don't have the One Plug Power battery unit but I do have the One Touch
Tune unit and it is built to last and does what it is supposed to do. In
fact it does it very nicely. Not having to struggle with the tiny FT-817
display to change modes makes a hugh difference. So I would imagine the
battery is every bit as nice.

Doesn't that mean purely mechanical contacts with some signal loss at each
joint? Also it would seem logical that skin oil will get on the sections
after a time, degrading the connections.

Background:
Field Day is a great tradition that brings ham radio operators

many of us will be out setting up for Field Day and participating in

the contest crowd or relax during a break in the action.

as always functioned in this way..!!

The solution is VERY easy... The BNC plus is an
RCA/BNC adaptor just pressed
in.

Could easily removed and replaced by a new one (or a
UHF plug for example).

Just pull the BNC plug out of the antenna using a
BNC jack or just some
pliers.

You will see a standard adaptor coming out.
Take care, there could be a small white plastic
washer, not loose it.
Replace the dead adaptor by a new one, thats it!

If you dont have such an adaptor and cannot buy it
round the corner, we will
send you one as a letter.

Stereo headphones, such as for a walkman, work just fine (i.e.,

Be carefull! I purchased 1800 mah Nimh batteries at Dayton. Their
outside diamter is a little larger than normal (at least the ones I
bought), and they don't fit in the FT-817 holder!! For about the same

battery pack.

And if I understand the original question correctly, the answer is you
can get several models of monaural in-the-ear headphones from Radio
Shack. They seem to work just fine.

Or, you can get a Heil PRO-5 headset. I have an old BM-5, which is
Heil's lightweight headset in a one-sided model, which I think is just
about perfect, except when wearing a helmet. They aren't, apparently,
made any more.

And, after I return from traveling, I'm going to try a telephone
headset, one sided, back-of-head band, and noise-cancelling mike with
my FT817, with the intent of using it for bicycle mobile.

Radio Shack has an adaptor to convert between mono (tip/sleeve) and
stereo (tip/ring/sleeve) mini-plugs such as most headphones use.
Mono end of adaptor into FT-817 and headphones into stereo end of
adaptor.

From RS web site:
Accepts 1/8" Stereo Plug. Fits 1/8" Mono Jack

Use stereo headset with mono device such as scanner, CB, shortwave or

I understand that the delay with the One Plug Power devices was the doors
from Yaesu. I was told last week that the doors had been received and
things are in production now. I'm expecting my order to be filled shortly.

I am a very satisfied user of the One Touch Tune which I bought at Dayton.
I also recently received the Z-11 Compatibility Kit which now makes this
truly a One Touch affair with my Z-11 which I already had. I did a review
of both devices (One Touch Tune & Z-11 Compatibility Kit) on eham.net in
their product review section under "QRP Accessories." This combination is
very solid and has never missed.

Hi Rami.

My hearing is shot so I always use headphones with my 817. Just get
an (inexpensive) pair of lighweight headphones such as you might use
with a portable CD player. Just re-wire the 'phones to a "mini" mono
male plug, or purchase a mini "mono to stereo" adapter plug.

This is what I use and it works great--make a world of diffrence!

To erase a memory channel, first select the memory channel you want
to erase. Now press the F key once and select the MW/MC/TAG menu.
Press MW (as if you were going to write over the selected memory
channel), and then press MC once. The memory channel will flash for
a few seconds. Once it stops flashing, try to call up that memory
channel and it should be gone.
