Re: Narrow filter CW

it ended?

Re: Narrow filter CW

Hi i have just seen one on ebay, Dave 2E0DMB

Re: Narrow filter CW

Here is a filter which outperforms the Yaesu CW narrow filter for the FT-817 / 857 at much?less cost.
Further information can be found via Youtube on how to install the Sotabeams filter.

Well they certainly seem to fetch good money. There's one currently on eBay from Japan selling at 258 UK pounds ...

Re: Narrow filter CW

I would sell the filter if ?no longer needed/used. ?Many owners operate CW and that filter makes a big difference. The demand is there if you want to monetize that CW filter.?

Re: Narrow filter CW

I have an 817ND with the Vertex YF-122C CW filter. I don't use it because I only operate phone but I'm reluctant to part with it as it would add value if I sold the rig.

I wonder how many other filters are lying around unused for the same reason?

Re: Narrow filter CW

Interesting!

Re: Narrow filter CW

As an alternative look at the scaf filter from kanga-products.co.uk.? There is a video of it in use on the page.

Re: Narrow filter CW

Have you checked QTH classifieds? ? It's gonna be high regardless...$200+ maybe.

Thank you for your reply...? I will give a thought on this..?

Re: Narrow filter CW

I have some Collins Mechanical filters available.

The following filters are Collins Mechanical
Filters designed for a 455.0 KHz IF. This
means they have characteristics generally
considered better than crystal filters.
These are no longer being manufactured.

These filters fit a variety of rigs. I know
for sure they fit the TenTec Omni VII. I am
told that they also fit Yaesu FT8xx as well
as Yaesu FT-1000/1000MP, AOR 5000 or
AOR 7030.

Collins 526-8693-010
500 Hz CW filter
Also known as TenTec 2031, or Yaesu YF-122C
or YF-115C or AOR MF-500 or InRad 705C

Collins 526-8733-010
300 Hz narrow CW filter
Also known as TenTec 2032, or Yaesu XF-115CN,
or YF-122CN or InRad 712.

Filters are $200 each, plus shipping from Florida.

Thanks. 73,

Re: 60dbm Neptune Amplifier + or -

Edited

Hi all,

as with any amplifier the most important thing is to know about basic protection and circuitry functions.

1. SWR protection
2. Overdrive protection
3. Overheat protection
4. Overvoltage protection
5. Polarity protection
6. Bandpass filters switching
7. T/R switching
8. PA finals availability and price

Until I will have all of these Q replied it is hard to make decision for purchase.

Re: RF Gain and the S-meter

Hi Tobias,

?

Re-read the second word of the second sentence. It says to REDUCE the gain, not increase it as the control is rotated CCW.

?

So, what is being said is exactly correct.

?

The way that the RF gain control works is to increase the AGC voltage, which reduces the gain of the controlled stage(s). As the S meter is simply a voltmeter on the AGC line, it shows a higher reading as the gain is reduced

Subject: [ft817] RF Gain and the S-meter

?

Hi all,
I am making myself some field-notes for the FT-817, referencing the existing cheat sheets and the manual.

On page 20 of the operating manual:

"If your transceiver is configured for "RF Gain" use, rotating this control fully clockwise in
the SSB/CW/Digital modes will provide best sensitivity. To reduce the receiver's RF Gain
somewhat, rotate this control counter-clockwise slightly. You will observe an increasing
number of bars on the S-meter as you rotate the SQL/RF control counter-clockwise; this
indicates increasing AGC voltage, which is causing the front-end gain to be reduced."

I am presently confused, as I would expect the S-meter to be more active with the RF gain increased, but the way this is written (and in my experience), the S-meter decreases when the RF gain is increased. This also reduces the relevance of an RST based on reading the S-meter.

Am I misreading things?

Go bag option ?

Picked up one of these which turned out to be very good quality.

Basically what Portable Zero sell as their 817 Sherpa II but without the Molle side bags.

The Portable Zero option with extra bags is probably a fair price but shipping cost ex US is prohibitive.
No affiliations etc, just thought it might be of interest.

Re: FT817 portable go case

I ordered the MyDel mini ham bag from ML&S on the understanding I could send it back if it wasn’t suitable. Whilst, yes, it will take the FT817/8 there is little room for anything else! There is an additional pocket at the front which will take the Z817 auto tuner or the mic. but not both. There is no room for additional batteries or other accessories. Additionally it is a shoulder bag not a backpack, which I thought it was from the photo in the ads, maybe that is my mistake. So it will be going back.?
There are no issues with regard to quality.?

I think after considering most.if the options I have I'll go with an aluminium flight case as that seems the best option?

Hi Sandip?
Yes the MyDel mini back pack is also the one I think would fit the bill, I would just like to see and feel the quality of construction. Cardboard and plastic boxes don’t do it for me as I don’t drive anymore(macular eye problems) so true portable is the only solution!

Yes, the FT-818ND shipped from Yaesu with the TCXO installed.
