Re: "Miracle Whip" no, stop laughing

Thanks Steve, just the job. I'll press on with my adapatation.?

cheers, Ben G4BXD

Re: "Miracle Whip" no, stop laughing

Back in the good old days, I once had a QSO indoors in MD with a ham in Canada through a 10M repeater in TX.? The equipment was an FT-817 at 2.5w and a Miracle Whip.? That antenna wasn't great, but it was convenient to use and could do well when conditions allowed.? I still have it around here someplace.

Re: "Miracle Whip" no, stop laughing

I recased mine in a diecast Hammond enclosure. I was challenged by an erstwhile erudite contributor as to why I didn't incorporate a more sensible TX interface, but as I replied back then, there were various decisions to be made and that was one of them. It required careful shimming internally to preserve the tuning knob function anyway, so I left it as standard. The bottom is a camera mount that I tapped and four internal 6-32 screws attach it to the case so the tripod can sit flush. Obviously there is no performance improvement (!) but the original plastic enclosure irritated me. From my perspective it was worth the effort.

Re: "Miracle Whip" no, stop laughing

From your description, and what I can see of the MW online, my suggestion would be:
Cut a piece of PCB the size of the case top and epoxy it onto the case, drill, then screw the whip back on. Maybe a second piece inside.
Steel plate i.e. tin can, would also work. The whip is live anyway, so shouldn't matter that the washer is live.

Re: "Miracle Whip" no, stop laughing

The original question in this thread was asking about replacing the mounting block on his MW whip.

I googled it and it actually looks like it's using a rather standard sized project box. It even looks kind of like a utility case like they might use for a wall plug or something.

Re: CatRadio - Radio Control Software #software

Dan, I know there are a lot of CAT software, but none use the Hamlib.

So I decide to develop my own software, it supports a lot of radio model and a lot of function.
Also it operates with other sofwares that use the Hamlib, like WSJT-X, Log4OM, so it isn't standalone like many others.
