Four ways to use the AlexLoop

?

I have just posted a Youtube video showing four ways to use the AlexLoop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnfbS-z-QRc

1) Using the VIVITAR VIV-VPT-1250, the ?lightest ?and cheapest tripod on the market that ?goes inside the AlexLoop bag

with enough room for the YAESU FT817 resulting on a field and portable?complete HF station that can goes on a small handbag.

2) A picnic table?temporary?fixing solution to use??the AlexLoop on tables that can be made at home spending almost nothing.

3) A simple, quick ?and?efficient?low cost?solution?to use the AlexLoop on balconies and windows.

4) And how to use the AlexLoop on pedestrian operations, walking and talking holding the AlexLoop?

in the hand and?tuning?with the thumb.

Thank you very much.

Re: Problem with Bluetooth Unit and FT817ND

Absolutely. The key point is how little current, 79mA or less, may be drawn from the CAT interface before the possibility, or likelihood, of a difficult and/or expensive repair. [Annoyingly, Yaesu/Vertex do not seem to quote a maximum current rating for the 13.8V supply on the FT-817 CAT interface.]

In violent agreement,

Hello Robin,
The resistor rating has probably been chosen to act as
a fuse, ie to burn up before anything else does, especially
thin PCB traces, so uprate it at your peril.

Hi Steve,

I think you’ll find that the P2 doesn’t do anything.

On the FT817, there are just the three specific lines on the mic socket being Up, Down and Fast so those are the only three functions available.

G’day, I have the above mic on my 817 (the DTMF is handy).

The RJ45 locking tab on the mic lead broke, so I replaced it this morning and all is good EXCEPT I am having a brain fade on what functions P1 and P2 buttons have.

P1 enables Fast tuning (and still does after the repair) but P2 doesn’t seem to do anything – I cannot for the life of me remember if it did in fact have any function or have I dot a crook connection in my replacement RJ45?

Anyone else with this mic can refresh my memory regarding any function of the P2?

Adding to Dan's note, the resistor R1235 is rated at 1/16W, 10Ω, thus offering a maximum rated current of 79mA before the resistor is overloaded. (Say 200Ω load max, more if the supply goes above 13.8V.) A wirewound resistor, polyswitch or semiconductor protection device might have been rather more robust!

Hi,

You need to check if the resistor providing +13.8V power on the FT817 connector is not burned out. This is a very common issue with FT817.
It is about R1235.

Hi Jon,

If the LED flashes, then the module is waiting for pairing. You need first to pair the Bluetooth module with your Android Device.
You can do this from the Android System Settings or directly from my Pocket RxTx Android app.
If you have Android >=6, the Play Store version does not work as Google changed the way Bluetooth pairing is done in Android >= 6.0, requiring Location Services rights for that.
I have an experimental version with a lot of new features and bug fixes available on my web site here:

Hope this helps.

I purchased a bluetooth adapter that is supposed to work specifically with the 817ND... and guess what... It doesn't work with any of the software packages for QRP.

The unit I bought was made by a gentleman in his off hours. He advertises on Ebay. For some reason his unit won't work with 817Companion, DroidPSK, Droid RTTY, Droid APRS... etc.

Has anyone else had similar problems? The unit has a blue heat shrink material covering the whole circuit board and is meant to connect to the ACCessory connector on the rear of the radio. It blinks constantly which means that the unit is trying and failing to connect the radio to my Samsung TABLET E.

I have conversed with the maker of the BT board and he doesn't seem to have much knowledge about his own item or the software made specifically for QRP comms.

Would like to know if anyone else has the same problems???
