Jo, I don't think you'd want one even if you could find one. That
BNC spike will break right off. I think Bonnie is talking about an
ATX she got that had the 3/8-24 *instead* of a BNC or

Re: Advice on CW and the 817???

I'm not about to spend $70 on a paddle that's going to get stuffed in

Julian, Yours is like all of the FT817s. I would
guess that it was done to help hold the batteries
in the carrier. I also have to remove the batteries
to get the carrier out,

INRAD Filter
Hello, I have been reading references to an INRAD filter. I am not familiar
with the term. Is this a brand name? or a type? If it is a brand
name where can I find it?

Re: Using dry-cell carrier as rechargeable battery pack
I will measure my cells but they are not tight at all. Easily slide
under case edge. Mine are off the shelf cells made for general
consumer use.

Re: Using dry-cell carrier as rechargeable battery pack
My battery tray has a plastic flap that protects the cells from the edge of
the case. This may be a new addition, as the unit is not yet a week old. I
too had a problem in putting in the tray will

The ones I got from Maplin Electronics are, as near as I can measure
them with just a ruler, 15.0mm in diameter. The fit in the 817 is so
tight that extra half a millimeter will make a big

The AA batteries come in several standard sizes and a few non-

It never occurred to me to do that. In fact, I had initially covered

You have the choice of 6, 8 and 10 hours. You can do 14 (6+8) or 16
(8+8), but to do 15, yo will have to watch and turn off the charger
with an hour left to go. Likely 14 will

FT-817 is a fine cw rig. I also recommend the Inrad 300hz cw
filter. Using a Bencher paddle at home and a Palm mini-paddle

Ok I understand now your not using the BNC version. I guess the PL-259 connector is stronger and can handle the sideward pressure.

carrier to hold NiMH cells and not mentioned any problems that I was
surprised to end up abandoning the attempt. The carrier,

Re: Using dry-cell carrier as rechargeable battery pack
You must fill battery tray while it is in the radio.
I switch to external power at this point or run lower power to entend my
time
That is the way my tray arrived and I assume that is the norm.
