Re: CAT Cable from FT50/VX5
Yes, they are both RS232 to TTL converters. You'll need to look at
the pinouts to get your connexions straight. FWIW, I just got a Macintosh straight-through 8-pin cable & am going to use it on my homebrew converter. I tried using a mini-din plug but my hands aren't steady enough to make sure the wires & pins don't touch each other. Should be a lot easier using a pre-wired plug, plus I'll have the other data-outs easily available. Am using a cable off a discarded ps-2 keyboard for the data port. --- In FT817@y..., drin@c... wrote: HIa female stereo plug and a mini din)I will able to use it for my 817. |

FTBasic V1.4.603 - Import ARRL TravelPlus data
V1.4.603 of FTBasic is now available for download at:
This version adds the ability to Convert a file of repeater frequencies from the ARRL TravelPlus Repeater CD 2001-2002 Edition into a CSV file suitable for Import into FTBasic. This file may then be merged in with other frequencies and loaded to FT-847 or FT-817 rigs. The 2001-2002 edition was the version available during development. If anyone has an earlier version that does not work as-is then please email me direct and I will see what I can do to support it. If anyone else has a well-known source of frequencies that are in need of Convert capability please email me direct. 73, Bob G4HFQ |
CAT Cable from FT50/VX5
HI
I have the CAT cable from my VX5/FT50 ADMS software. There is a DB9 on one side (with lever converter inside) and a stero plus on the other. I suppose that with the proper connection ( small cable with a female stereo plug and a mini din)I will able to use it for my 817. Am I wrong ? I did notice that the URL given for accessing the FAQ was something

This kit is made of 6 pieces of speaker, or whatever multistranded insulated wire, each wire having a small socket on either end similar to banana sockets and plugs. By connecting together at least 2 pieces at a time, you have the counterpoise you need for each band. So by using variuos combinations of these 6 pieces you can cover all bands between 80 and 6 meters. Lots snipped... |

Hi Dave,
Why not join Yahoo! FT817 Group? You are not required to answer the questions during sign up accurately (if you understand my meaning). By not joining the FT817, you are just peeking in the window. I note that the FT817 Group is one of the few that you can read the messages AND post messages without being a member. Thanks to Pres Waterman (Moderator) for understanding the merit of this approach. So Dave, join the group and reap the benefits. 72 de Barry W4WB FT817 Group Co-Moderator --- In FT817@y..., "Dave B" <dave756pro@h...> wrote: access any of the files in the yahoo files. yahoo will not let many of us,myself included, access these files..... seems as far as my account isconcerned is "opps" is one of the few world yahoo has in its' vocabulary.Would be nice if someone posted the faq.the FT817 Group is always a good place to start looking for answers._________________________________________________________________ |
Programing Memories in the FT-817

A couple of bits of news.
First I received the fix from RT Systems last night one must presume they took a holiday weekend can't begrudge them that. I have not tried it having found an alternative. Second if you haven't made the plunge yet wait a bit for news of an alternative. The big attraction for me of the RT software was the ability to transfer data in from the ARRL Travel Plus TM CDRom. Well RT is no longer the only game in town. It is appropriate that the author announce his software but stay tuned. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Re: RT Systems Cat software is out!
Frankly, I think the "settings" menu of the software still has some
bugs in it. I have the new version (it's not just a patch) and it ups and downloads, but still appears to be some glitches in settings file xfer. Does anyone know of an amp that would cover HF/6m/2m/70cmHmmm, an FT-100D or an IC-706 mkIIG? ;-) The Mirage amps come in at least a couple of VHF/UHF models and are pretty reasonably priced. In fact I have made 3 sets of radial/counterpoise kits (some people would argue that counterpoise is not the right word, but who cares what is it called anyway) and I have given one set to my friend G0EHX, who used it in success with his FT-817 and ATX in his short holiday in Aegina Island last week. I kept the other 2 sets for myself and have the one put in the FT-817's carry case, while the other is in my newly aquired RACAL 4031's rucksack. This kit works FB with the MP-1. I tested the setup with my ATX/FT-817 and the 8 foot whip with the RACAL radio last Sunday in all bands except 80 meters because I forgot. I also tested it with the MP-1 and got a fantastic match in all bands I tried. All this just with one radial/counterpoise. By the way one could use car spade connectors and coloured marker ti mark the 6 different pieces, but I used small round car wire connectors for my sets. Of course one needs only 5 different colours for marking them because the longest piece is white. Another idean would be to use 6 different colour wires, but I could not find 6 different colours here. 73 de Demetre SV1UY |
Re: ATX (but not only, MP-1 and 8 foot whip were also tested) homebrew counterpoise kit
Thanks for this posting, Demetre.
I had been going to do a similar thing, based on the counterpoise lengths I came up with, except that I had been going to make the joins at the length for each band, so that you just unrolled the whole thing and then break or make one connection to set the band. I had been going to use car-type spade terminals, since these are readily available. I have never heard of the type mentioned in the article, and have no idea where they may be found. Julian, G4ILO |
