Re: Hair rising story
I have managed to work stations in 6 m FT8 (FRONT), 2 m and 70 cm FM (FRONT) and 10 m FT8 (REAR) after. As you've said: probably nothing damaged. Phew! Em dom., 19 de jan. de 2025, 15:02, Mike Davis via <maddmd818=[email protected]> escreveu:

Re: Hair rising story
开云体育I like the way you think, Barry!Though real estate within the FT-817 case is at a premium, including an automatically switched load for the unused antenna port would have been a superb design addition to the rig. Then again, I suppose there's only so much idiot proofing a manufacturer is going to provide. 72/73, Jeff WN1MB On 1/20/25 15:25, Barry Salt via

Re: Hair rising story
I had a poorly tuned 2 meter dipole, purchased online, antenna that made my FT817ND display flash a warning message of high SWR(???) during RTTY transmissions, and the finals never failed.? (maybe once, transmitted full power without an antenna, maybe). ? Later tuned that antenna with my NanoVNA.? The ND seems to be pretty rugged to abuse.? Electronics, by design, can take short duration abuse, polarity swaps in SOME instances on 5VDC devices.? I say enjoy that radio until it fails.

The 817nd is pretty robust,? I've had a 70cms 5w usb qso over 10 miles without a connected antenna. Other than a weaker than normal signal no damage done. You should be fine.

Re: Hair rising story
If it is still putting out the expected power, it's OK. On Sun, Jan 19, 2025, 9:46 AM Daniel Vianna via <py2tdb=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Hair rising story
That’s hard to tell. Probably nothing damaged if you are still able to transmit on all bands as expected. I know the concern. But if it’s working normally, it’s not like you’ve partially hurt something. If you ruined the finals you’d be putting out nothing or milli watts. Have you made any SSB contacts or listened to yourself on kiwi sdr or web sdr? Do you have a power meter and dummy load to test output? Hopefully someone else will have a better answer or suggestion. Hair rising story
Today I was racing the bands so much during a POTA activation that I noticed I CQ'd two times 5 W in FT8?on 6 m using the wrong output (antenna was in the rear but the menu was selected FRONT). After I noticed, I corrected and the radio operated normally on both outputs (apparently). How much did I ruin the radio?? Daniel. |
Re: PWR level
Not really. Blinking indicator means the radio produces 5W, but voltage is less than ~11V. This works with a built-in battery only. With the external battery there is no blinking indicator at all, the 5W output with indicator disappeared or 2.5W with solid three bars only. Therefore you can get 5W with voltage less than ~11V from built-in battery (blinking indicator), but you cannot get 5W from external battery with less than ~11V (no disappeared or blinking indicators, three bars or less only).

Re: PWR level
Following Blasco's advice, today I used a Powerwerx meter:
?
With Bioenno (LIII not blinking but with all 9 bars from PO indicator lit):
RX: 0.35 A, 13.06 V, 4.7 W
TX: 2.3 A, 12.90 V, 29.6 W
?
Screen:
RX: 13.0 V TX: 12.1 V ?
With Windcamp:
Screen: RX: 11.0 V TX: 9.9 V (from this voltage on, the LIII icon was able to blink) Regardless of blinking, all 9 bars from the PO indicator were lit.
?
The behaviour seems contrary to what Serguei said, but in accordance with what Andy said.

Re: Bluetooth CAT device
Michael, The damage that can be done to the FT-8xx series of radios is why Yaesu recommended to the HAM RADIO DELUXE folks to remove the capability to read/write to that same area. The later versions of HRD no longer R/W to those memory locations. So consider the benefit opposed to the final cost. It's your rig, use it the way you like. John VE7KKQ?????????????????????????????? Re: New Yaesu FTX-1F
开云体育Hi Dave A google search shows Gigaparts it can be reserved for $35.00 but that is all I see right now. The picture in that ad shows a nice looking rig. Not sure I need another rig right now so I probable wouldn't be interested myself but a trip down to see it in person might be fun. I'll wait until it is offered for sale to see. Good luck though.
