MFJ/W&S/Sandpiper Aerials
The MFJ 1899 is the same as the ATX Walkabout sold by Waters & Stanton in the UK, and both appear to be really badge- engineered versions of the Sandpiper Plug-In. There is also a non-telescopic

Re: FT-817 and D-104 -- Why? + URLs
The D-104 with the ceramic or crystal elements do not produce good audio with the new digital radios unless you can shape or equalize the output, and it's my understanding that Astatic has

remote working 817
I guess this post is a word of encouragement to all those 817 owners who are overly concerned about output - antennas and being heard in kilowatt alley, es[ecially when mobile. I have just come back

morse code interference?
I did the mod for the ft 817 and now I hear morse code on AM, SSB and CW on 2 meters and 440 mhz not just on one frequency but on all it seems like it has to do with the if of the radio or something

Re: Antennas
Ive got two configured as a dipole. Check www.ngunn.net They appear to work OK although not as well as a full sized antenna of course. I've never compared it with any other similar sized antenna. de

Re: Antennas
Well--I have not seen any rave reviews on "Dave Edwards" tuners or other accessories! All my MFJ stuff works as advertised, although I have had to do some tweaking here and there on occasion. Rudy

Re: Antennas
I have the MFJ1899T 6-80 antenna and it works OK. You must have a counterpoise wire attached to the rig's ground lug appropriate for the band. A rule of thumb to follow with antennas--SIZE MATTERS!

Re: Memory management software?
While Commander is one great piece of software(and FREE to boot), it really isn't designed to import/export memory frequencies. If you tale a look at Commander's memory files, they're in what I'd call

Re: Antennas
The orginal question was about the MFJ walkabout antenna, not the MFJ window mount antenna. I Too, wud like to know, if anyone has one and how they work. I have also seen a version in our data folders

Re: FT-817 and D-104 -- Why? + URLs
Bob- A number of folks use the FT-817 as a QTH radio, so they want a nice "substantial" QTH mic. The D-104 has held a place of honor in the 11m community as well for years now... the audio is just

Re: Power shuts off during transmitt
One solution for the shut off problem is to put an electrolyte capacitor accross the output lead to the radio. I use an 4700 microfarad 25V unit (you may need two if one still causes shut off) this

Re: Antennas
I have not tried them, but I don't think I will. I think they are too small, with too many traps to be effective. For the money, you'll be certainly much better off with a random length single wire
