Questions: a) Are you using a straight key or paddles? b) How are you monitoring your signal? c) Using a dummy load and external monitor? d) Key down, do you get a transmit light (red)? e) Are you using the internal keyer or your own electronic keyer? f) Are you sure your cable from key or paddles is wired correctly? g) In Operating Functions Menu 9 (VOX BK KYR) is KYR selected? h) What tech data do you possess on the FT-817? I use "The Packet Reference." It's very handy. Even the owner's manual is good. Both should be to hand. If not the Packet reference, then maybe "The Nifty Mini-Manual". ?
