Clamp-Together pipe for dust collection #dustcollection

My upgrade from 37" to 43" sander also required a new collector. The 37" was on a 3hp Oneida, right next to it actually and it handled it pretty well. The new sander just buried?it.?

I just saw a 2 head Kundig on one of the auction sites. I tried to get one when I was upgrading, but kept running into people with deeper pockets. I'm quite happy with the SCM Sandya 10 though.

I paid Oneida to design my original shop, and as I recall they deducted it from my ducting cost. It was a good system with little waste. After I built my new shop I decided to go with Nordfab type snap together tubing. I paid Oneida for the design and bought the pipe and fittings from BlastGate. I literally saved about $2,000 from the Nordfab and Oneida cost. Again, I had almost no excess pieces. A year or two later I changed my shop setup and did the layout myself. It took three separate orders to get it right and like you I found I still had at least $400-500 in spare parts. It only takes one wrong Wye or a couple of Ell¡¯s to make it worthwhile to pay a pro to do it.

Jonny, I feel that pain, I have too much Nordfab to sell. Luckily it sells pretty well on ebay

You can do the same thing with a VFD and some simple programming.

?

You need to make sure the motor is 3 phase and VFD rated

Need to know the max RPM rating of the fan

Know the FLA rating of the motor

?

Program the VFD to automatically increase the RPM until you hit a current limit, I¡¯d suggest something like 10% below FLA.? Also set a top RPM limit below the fan rating.? You may find the fan make too much noise at top speed so lower the upper limit.

?

Fans pull max current when moving max air.? If the line has a small port it¡¯s not moving much air so the current is low.? The VFD will automatically speed the motor up creating more suction pressure automatically

I loved the Smart collector that was here for a while. I'd like to see them size it up for shops like mine in the 15-20hp range.
