Re: Couple more questions

I use a lot of bushings even though all my shafts change very quickly. Most of my runs are short. If a long run I change the shaft. One place I don¡¯t like to use bushings is stacked cutters like door sets and adjustable groovers. Using bushings on these gets confusing and prone to getting a spun cutter. If you need to bush these it¡¯s better to use an unthreaded sleeve.

Re: AD941 installing fence support bar

Wade,

larger?washers are used on the backside of the casting. If my memory?serves me correctly, it is a washer (not a split washer) like the one in your picture sitting between the casting and the nut.?

I guess we have different definitions of ¡°PITA¡±. ? ??

Same is true on the Profil 45 - loosen two kipp levers and the spindle comes out the top. ?Compared to having cutter bushing - total PITA IMO.

IMO, exact height is not important. ?But you do want the cutter bushed-out from the spindle top and bottom if it¡¯s a single cutter. ?So in your example, I wouldn¡¯t be concerned about the 10mm gap between the bushings. ?

In the case of a stack of multiple cutters, my rule of thumb (totally unscientific) is that each cutter should ?have bushing contact across 60 percent of its height. ? Below is a visual representation of what I mean and the rules I follow.

Thanks for the input, Mac.

How about something like a 60mm tall rebate cutter that is a single, solid block. If you had 25mm top hat bushings on both the top and the bottom, would the 10mm gap in the middle be a concern? I suppose that I'm wondering how important it is to try and find an exact height match set of bushings for each cutter, compared to using a set that is "close enough" (whatever that may be).

You want your package to be tight.
Most important thing to pay attention to is everything is clean and no burrs treat these parts like treasures?

I don¡¯t know what David does ,?
I have sleeves to fill the space. Example cutter set up that use 4 cutters that are 1.25 or common 40 mm cutters don¡¯t just float in the abyss with no support.?
I also build packages with sleeves that are threaded. So complete with no piecemeal separate ?sleeves and bushings.
These can be set with spacers so they are referenced with spindle down and no set up.
Window and door work!

When buying the top hat bushings, do you have any rules you follow about matching the height of the bushing to the height of the cutter block? For example, if you had bushings that only filled up 50% of the height of the cutter block, would that be a potentially bad situation?

Re: Couple more questions

Agreed. Why buy both. You can buy groovers for 30mm or 1-1/4.? Whitehill sells great adjustable groovers for both bores and they are pretty reasonably priced.?

Re: Couple more questions

Hi Ray, there are a few reasons I wouldn¡¯t buy the C3, I went with a B3 & A3 setup

1) the saw rip fence is now the the fence from the K3 Basic, and when mounted on the jointer outfeed table it only reaches to approximately the Center of the blade. It also isn¡¯t the standard saw fence extrusion so it doesn¡¯t have the same high/low capability as a standard saw fence

2) rip capacity is 900mm which is fine for me, may not be for you

3) the shaper spindle doesn¡¯t tilt, that¡¯s a real issue for me

4) the C3 really needs a square shaped shop as you need access on 4 sides as opposed to 3 for 2 function machines

5) I would purchase both an 1 1/4¡± and 30mm spindle so you can share grooving tools and saw blades with the saw

Re: Couple more questions

Hi Ray -?? I have a C3-31, the measuring tapes on the floor are an 8' square.
I left about 16" of measuring tape on the J/P side, as the C3-41 is a larger machine.

Couple more questions

Hi All,

What is the minimum workspace size necessary to support a C3-41? Trying to decide if it will fit.

Thanks

Well, the files you create in the ¡°Makers¡± version can only be used in the Makers version, you can¡¯t import/export them to other platforms or softwares. You can export .stp or .iges files and use them elsewhere, but they will be ¡°dumb¡±, no feature tree or ability to modify with any sort of intelligence. It is also a cloud based software, you only rent the right to use it and have to pay monthly or yearly.
