Re: Raising an FB710 off its crate

Doug,?

Vertical at balance point or a distance "further" away from final position would be preferred, safest, if you don't have abundance of ceiling height. The extra angle on the load line will assist in controlling descent and keeping humans a safe distance from the action.

The bandsaw decreases topside load as the CoG shifts closer to the center of the base, and increases weight on the bottom. If you can use a chainfall?from the joists to get it as close as you can to the balance point, you can manage the rest with much lighter duty devices like cam-lever straps or a couple of 2x4s serving as levers, or a couple of friends with ropes/pulleys safely out of harm's way. You may not want to lift from a direct overhead point as when it reaches the last 10 degrees or so? of vertical after the balance point, next the CoG is within the footprint of the base, the machine will shift behavior to want to fall into correct position, there may be not enough angle on the lifting line to resist over-tipping in a controlled and safe fashion. Your ceiling height should not be an issue if you can rig from the roof structure at the right angles. If your machine isn't already marked where the CoG is, I'd suggest a ceiling attachment point about a foot toward the top of the geometrical center of the bandsaw.

I want to make sure I understand what you’re saying.? If I imagine the saw having been raised just to the balance point at which the CG will begin to create a moment to rotate the saw to vertical, are you suggesting the chain fall should be vertical at that point, or farther away from the direction of rotation of the rising saw, or toward the direction it is rotating into??
?
Thank you,
Doug

Air clamps set #forsale

Have a set of "Big squeeze" air clamps for sale. I haven't had the time to properly install these on my current saw and have used them a few times and they work awesome. Just not using them enough to justify keeping them.

Yes that’s the Extrema rail-master coping sled. I love it to bits, makes coping a breeze. One cool feature it has is an air cushion in the base when you flick the air clamp on. This helps it glide smoothly on the surface. It’s better suited for a cast iron surface, I used some uhmw tape on the bottom of mine to prevent the aluminum slider portion from getting scratched up. If you’d like I can show a better video of it tomorrow??

HI Dan,
That was what i thought initially but when i check it with a straight edge, the castings were machined spot on. It does end up spot on though after a good clean up, it's just that sometimes it catches me out when i start to run something and then notice it. That first piece is normally a test piece anyway, so not an issue.

Glad it's working for you. I only had pictures to go by and it looked like that flange around the top would hit the belt cover on the motor.

Jup it clears everything. Been working great for the past few weeks. I my case i added a slight bend forwards because if have to clear a homemade throughput for an extra on off switch on my sliding table. As can be seen in the picture below. Ican take a picture of the inside with the blade fully tilted if you want to.

Re: Hammer dust chute revisited...

Does that clear everything? Pictures I have from Tom look like it wouldn't on the side closest to the blade. I had to remove the bolt on that side completely.

Hello Nentanel,?

Thanks for offering to organise getting a batch of these made up can you please put me down for a kit for two machines please.?
Hopefully you get enough interest in this project. Just let me know how and when to send you the money.

Cheers Chris?

I worked with fellow FOGer Tom Fulmer on fine tuning the 3D printed dust chute adapter for the Hammer machines. After quite a few iterations I have a solution that actually works. Hopefull nobody printed the first one I posted, it was a pretty bad failure... that's what happens when I do things without proper measurements and engineering.

Any way, if anybody wants one, I'd be happy to print some, contact me off the list at blamb11@... I'll attach a 3D PDF file of what it looks like, which is easier to see how it all works than in pictures. It slips on the dust chute and then hangs off the metal ears sticking out off the sides.

Bryce, it almost seems as if the attachment mechanism doesn’t retract enough to pull it tight or the surfaces were not machined properly. Could Also be a defective fence plate. I’m putting in a service ticket later, will see what they say.?

Hi Dan,
I have noticed this too on the 230 fence of my CF741. When i do, i pull both fences off and clean everything with a blast of air and a bit of a wipe and it tends to end up spot on again. Hopefully this will solve your issue, otherwise it sounds like a bit of an issue, since i don't believe there is any adjustment.

Unfortunately an aigner fence is just not in the budget at this point. I’d rather upgrade the machine to a format 4 shaper than invest more into this model.?
