Re: C3-31 setup

For sliding table saw, the technician performs the following tasks

1. Check the sliding table height in related to the cast iron table. Felder acceptance criteria is 0.012 inch.

2. Set the toe out of the sliding table and rip fence, I do not recall the Felder criteria. I adjust it to be 0.002 inch later.

3. Square the crosscut fence, Felder technician uses 5 - sided cut method. The better and fast way is to use a big quality square and dial indicator, the method has been described in the forum before.

That was the commissioning service Felder technician did for my KF700sp in Sep, 2016. He did not even check the shaper spindle at all. I checked later, there is no run out on the shaper spindle, square to the cast iron table.

Speaking of this exact issue, I am taking delivery of my new equipment in the next few weeks and I have been discussing checklists. manuals, etc with my Felder sales rep. Does anyone have any info or might point to specific adjustments, acceptable tolerances? I can't imagine there isn't a set checklist and associated instruction/reference manual for the field techs doing commissioning.?

I was also looking for the David Best manual but it seems out of print. Are there any other resources that might be recommended for consulting while doing the commissioning?

Thanks everyone!

Re: Aigner shaper accessories on Felder Combos

Mike I have the older style shaper hood that was found on the green accented machines, mine is 2011. That style you have to enlarge the hole to get the Aigner fence to fit. They upgraded the hood design with the release of the new design 700's a couple of years ago so I don't know about those. Felder does actually modify several Aigner accessories with Felder only stuff.

I've been getting a bit of mixed info out there regarding the integral fence on the Felder CF741 and I assume all Felder products or at least 700 series. The info has been that Felder and Aigner have a proprietary setup for the integral fence. Is this true? Or is it more of a bit of inconvenience? Or does it even matter for attaching the fence post build, ie Felder hasn't made the appropriate mods?

Thanks again for the help!

The commissioning service is about CDN $500 plus tax for local visit ( an hour driving from Felder Missisauga office to customer site). That was what I paid for KF700sp commissioning service in Sep, 2016 when the machine was delivered ( delivery fee was extra).

3 month after the commissions service, I adjusted sliding table again, cause the sliding table was a bit higher than cast iron table. I spent almost the 3 day long weekend to get to the result that is acceptable for me, not the best result I was expecting, I was really tired.

Having said that, I think you can consider commissioning your C3 by yourself if C3 has 4 bolts under the sliding table, it is a lot easier adjusting the sliding table with 4 bolts than sliding table on KF700sp with 8 bolts.

By commissioning the machine yourself, you get to know your machine better, the knowledge you gain will help you down the road.

Hi guys,

I just spent nearly an hour looking at C3-31 installation/calibration videos.?

It this something I should try myself or simple ask a technician to do? I am sure that given enough time (and patience) I could get a decent level of precision, but it looks like a lot of hours if some of the parts are not perfectly machined/installed at the factory.?

Any idea how much the setup is in Canada??

If you did it yourself, how long did it take? Any regrets?

Re: C3-31 setup

They only do the major adjustments that put it with factory tolerances not necessarily the settings you want so you will have to dial it in after anyways. Good commissioning is also dependent on how good the tech is, lots of stories on this forum from those that have had both good and bad experiences. Best to call them and see what there current commissioning rate is for a Techanian to deliver in Quebec.

Re: Aigner shaper accessories on Felder Combos

Mike,
You can absolutely add the Aigner fence after the fact to the Felder
shaper fence. basically all you need to do is to enlarge the hole in the
shaper hood to allow the threaded rod from the Aigner mounting stud to
fit. You can see (if the pictures made it) the mounting stud can travel in
an arc to vary the height of the stud.

Re: C3-31 setup

I did mine myself. It takes some time but does make you more familiar with the machine. There wasn't much calibrating to do to mine other than fences.

The fence that comes with the machine is okay for jointing, not for the table saw. If I were you I would upgrade the fence or buy an additional fence for sawing. I wish I had, as I am now waiting for my upgraded fence to get here from Felder.

This is the fence that I ordered in November from Feldershop

I would also order a few table extensions for jointing and planing longer boards. You will also need one additional 310 mm rail to attach the the outfeed of the planer

I would also order more blades, as my c3-31 comfort package only came with 1 blade and a scoring blade. I have been more than happy with the Felder silent power blades.?

Re: C3-31 setup

I may be in the minority but mine required no calibration/adjustment from the factory. I wouldn't spend money on commissioning unless you're really unsure about your capabilities. Most of the adjustments have been explained multiple times in this group, there's plenty of know how available here and I've always found Felder helpful.

Of course everyone will have different opinions about how dialed in a machine needs to be for Woodworking so your mileage may vary :-)

I am not even sure if a splitter comes with the machine.? Still waiting for an answer.??

At least, the edging shoes appears to be included with the sliding table!??

Re: KF 700 SP options

Blades were extra with both saws I bought, a competent sales person should always make that clear especially because of the 30mm bore and 2 pins. They do come with the splitter but there are other splitter sizes available.

Re: KF 700 SP options

It is my understanding no blades are included.

Re: KF 700 SP options

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Blades, not included but they many times will throw in a blade for goodwill. Splitter, yes, it¡¯s included, you will need to tell them which width. Edging shoe, I don¡¯t think that was a freebie¡

All this is from my experiences many years ago, so who knows now.

This seems to indicate the problem everything has with attachments is simply settings in the Felder group.

David

I'm guessing that a high-functioning OCD sufferer has also succeeded in developing a protocol for dealing with offcuts?
I'm bogged down with them and apart from an annual tossing onto the firewood heap forced on me by the piles blocking access to the machines, have yet to find a satisfactory solution.

I'm not quite as bad as the hoarder who had a labelled box containing "bits of string too small to keep", but not far behind.

Phil

PS? I'm less surprised by the photos that don't get through than by the occasional one that does.? A link to an external source eg as you frequently do seems a sensible approach?
